Hands down, Toshi is the best sushi chef. He is so fast and good while being cool and laid back. We were in town for business. We let him surprise us. He asked us questions and made some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. So good we came back two nights later. I’m going to hit it every time I’m in town.

All in all, the food was significantly better than basically any other Teppan style restaurant I’ve been to locally, and a little less expensive as well. It is pretty busy as with most great Teppan places. Ruben, at the bar, makes great drinks! Table service was quick and courteous, lead by Jonathan. He was funny and engaging as well. Stevan prepared our food and it was excellent! We had shrimp, scallops, salmon, rib eye, Korean BBQ, and chicken. And he was very friendly and funny while preparing our teppan! All of it was juicy and delicious. The manager Robert was great too! He greeted us, sat us, checked in with us, as well as took a great photo of our group. All in all, they made it a great celebration! Thanks again, all of you!

Love the food here. Hate that I smell like it when I leave but it’s worth it. My kids beg me to take them here on a weekly basis. Portions are more than enough & quality of the filet mignon is top.

Went to this place last night and I got food poisoning. Been throwing up all day and major stomach cramps. I should’ve Unilocaled before I went which was my fault for making a stupid decision since I trusted my friend. Never going to this place ever again and I’m actually shocked that they are still open after all the reviews I just finished reading. Horrible!

Not a huge fan of Teppan, but came here since my friends love it. The food was surprisingly good compared to others I have been to. I had the combo chicken and salmon which came with Miso soup, a small salad, white rice and shrimp. It was about $ 3 extra to get fried rice instead of white. Fried rice was nothing to jump for joy over. The salmon was juicy and had good seasoning. My husband got the steak and ordered it to be cooked rare and it was delicious! Seasoning was again amazing. The chicken was chicken, if it weren’t for the kids I probably wouldn’t have ordered it. Pricing is comparable to other Teppan places… About $ 19-$ 24 for the combo dinners. Probably will come back if I am in the area but won’t be going out of my way for a visit. Definitely a must try if you are in Encino

Terrible! I am gluten free and informed the waitress of this. The response was blank — no suggestions of what would work. She asked the kitchen if one of the items was gluten-free. The kitchen informed her that it could be made without soy sauce and would be gluten free. The dish was served by the sushi chef after sitting in the window several minutes, as the waitress was busy. The sushi roll was tempura(wheat) fried. I asked him if the Tempura batter was made with rice or wheat and he did not know(what chef does not know what ingredients he uses). He went back and asked the other chef who said it was wheat! So, the Gluten-Free dish was served with gluten! Had I not asked the question to confirm, I would be in the hospital! I did have one actually gluten free roll and it was terrible. The avocado was brown, the fish flavorless and not fresh. Even the edamame were wrinkled and dry. I could go on and on…

The prices here are right on par with any other Tepan restaurant. The service is good. The chefs are always friendly. Parking is busy but ample. Great full bar. Lots of choices on the menu. They have a full sushi bar too and the bar menu is solid for appetizers. Way better than the Agoura hills location!!! Ideal do a group of between 5 – 8! They get busy for dinner on the weekends.

The fan was leaking oil into our food, we told the manager and he said it’s vegetable oil. This is disgusting! I’ll post pictures

There is oil dripping from the vent on top, that is a health hazard. I don’t understand how this place operates. I hope I don’t go to the hospital tonight. Yikes!!! We are never coming back here again and I hope we won’t get sick tonight.

I SIMPLYLOOOOOVE their Sushi. For someone who likes a more modified sushi based on american taste,(not too dry or raw) this is the perfect place. You have a big selection to choose from.

ERNESTO never seems to stop amazing me. Every time a friend suggest sushi for lunch/dinner I always recommend visiting Ernesto at Yamato it never fails that my guest leaves just as happy and satisfied. Last night I took my friend for the first time and I quote her words«it was sushi heaven in my mouth». She requested something delicious with raw tuna & salmon, she asked Ernesto to surprise her and he sure did. The pictures do no justice, I tried it and It was amazing in every single bite. Yet again I walk out happy as ever and will For sure be back for more. Don’t forget to check out Ernesto at the Sushi Bar and tell him Lupe sent you :) Enjoy.

The one star is for the food since it was moderately ok. I was shocked that they made us wait a whole hour before seating us despite the fact we had a reservation. In fact, they said they would«seat us momentarily» and before we knew it we were standing there waiting at the hostess table for an additional 30 minutes. They literally waited until the last possible minute to seat us as we repeatedly complained about their treatment of us considering it was my best friends birthday. We couldn’t emphasize enough that we were celebrating a birthday. I even handed the cake I got to the manager who promptly forgot about it. I had to chase down their staff to remind them it was her birthday, again, at the end of the meal since the check was handed to us and no birthday cake??? Eventually when they came, they forgot to put the happy birthday sign on the cake as i specifically instructed them to do. They didn’t even sing the Japanese birthday song like they sang for all the other guests. Like, really? Would you like me to tip you negative??? I’d really like to give more stars but if their incompetence wasn’t met with my sharp intuition, my friend would gave had a worse experience for her birthday. I think management owes us an apology for sure.

Unfortunately the sushi is not very fresh nor very good. However, when you put a lot of sauce on something, it taste a lot better. They do put a lot of stuff on the sushi rolls to mask out the ok sushi. I had the opportunity to eat at the sushi bar, and my sushi chef forgot my lobster hand roll. I waited awhile, then a new sushi chef came by, and after asking him for my roll, he didn’t realize the other chef didn’t make my roll. I love lobster, but this lobster lacked a lot of flavor and it was very bland. For $ 15, I was expecting a lot more. The raw oysters I had were very fishy tasting, and I couldn’t get rid of the after taste long after I left the restaurant. For $ 6 bucks for two small oysters, I was expecting more. I will definitely come back to try the teppan grill, perhaps that might be a lot better. It looks really great from the outside, and when you go inside, it’s massive.

Love this place! There are two sides to this restaurant. One side is for sushi and the other for the grill. My husband and I love coming here for the grill. It’s like Benihana but a bit cheaper and better tasting. They have several grills so you never have to wait too long to be seated. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The chefs are fast and they know how to cook their meats properly. Our chef Stevan cooked my chicken, scallops and my husband’s steak perfectly! Thanks again Stevan, you rock! We’ve never had anything over or under cooked from here. The portions are huge. Only down side to coming here during the dinner rush or on weekends is the parking. Although this place is located in a shopping complex with plenty of parking, it’s still almost impossible to find parking when you come during regular business hours. Patience is a virtue, but it’s totally worth it.
