My Pad Thai from here tasted slightly rancid. The second it was placed in front of me I could smell something was off. I asked if I could get a to-go container with my meal to portion control but was refused? Why? It also took entirely too long to get the check.

Favorite Chinese restaurant in Bergen county with some competition from Mr Wok in Tenafly but otherwise very happy with a wide range of dishes here, it’s fresh and relatively authentic

This place is incredible! I’ve been going here for over 5 years now and have NEVER had a bad experience. I’ve had almost everything under the sun here in regards to the Asian cuisine. The portion sizes are huge and filling. The sushi is just okay, I would not really recommend this place for sushi. The fried rice is similar to hibachi style here which is a big plus. Also, get their house dumplings and chicken and pine nuts!

What a disappointment! Baumgart’s was one of my favorite places to come to when I was a kid. We were all set for some good old diner food and we got Chinese! And it wasn’t very good. My husband ordered chicken potpie off of the«International Menu!» Just skip his place when in Englewood.

We stopped into this old fashioned Englewood café, Baumgart’s for ice cream after dinner on Palisade Ave. What a disappointment. The man behind the counter(clearly the manager with his demanding demeanor) was rude and barking out orders. First we were ignored while we sat patiently at the counter. He was so annoyed to have to help us. The poor woman behind the cash register didn’t speak english and was having trouble scooping ice cream. he abruptly grabbed the scoop from her hand and did it himself making us a(TINY) single scoop, threw it in a bowl and quickly squirted fudge on it for our son. We asked for cherries and he rudely added them and placed the ice cream in front of us. He ate it and we left as soon as we could. My husband got a small cone. TINY scoop again. Then he charged us $ 5. for the sunday and $ 2.75 for the tiny scoop. RIPOFF! The vibe was so bad in there. You could tell he was a jerk to work for. Hard to witness as a customer. We won’t go back! I won’t patronize a place who clearly controls all the people working for him. They seemed afraid of him. I would be to!

So wonderful to see this place still open! It still maintains the feel of a diner. It still serves ice cream and milkshakes. However, now it has diversified into Asian cuisine. I had something called a «New Jersey roll.» –see photo –was not bad for Englewood NJ! But the prize was the bacon cheeseburger with a milkshake(see photo); attempted by my 80 year-old mother but finished by me … Bumgarts is an eclectic place with a fun 50s diner ambience; complete with rock around the clock and Beatles playing on their audio system. Service was OK. Food was good. I would write it in the category of fun places to go if you are visiting or having guests in Englewood.

What a confusing place for the senses. You walk into an old ice cream type shop with a Sushi counter. I wanted to leave immediately but my friend kept insisting I would not be disappointed and WOW was he right! Forget the bizarro atmosphere which actually only adds to the experience, the food gets a 5 star all on it’s own. We ordered the Avocado Salad, Sushi and Shrimp with Walnuts. I can honestly say all 3 dishes were the best I’ve ever had in their own categories. We split a hot fudge sundae for dessert. The whipped cream was home made and not to be missed! The ice cream could use a bit of a quality upgrade but other than that I can’t wait to go back!

I had some food delivered and I can’t say that there was anything great about my experience. While she was nice, the woman that I spoke to on the phone didn’t really understand what I wanted(although it was clear on the menu). She called back to clarify what I wanted, I told her, and it still showed up wrong and I was way overcharged. I called to calmly let them know that my order was wrong, not asking for a replacement or anything, and instead of just apologizing they argued with me. Terrible customer service. The house dumplings were absolutely disgusting. The filling is some sort of gummy, flavorless, vaguely fishy paste. The sushi might as well have been from a grocery store and was not fresh. I will definitely not be ordering from here again.

How a Asian restaurant has the name Baumgart’s is beyond me but I expected a very different experience when I stepped into this restaurant based on the name and décor. It looks like a typical American diner with décor that hasn’t been updated this century complete with an old school soda jerk style counter. OTOH, the menu is in large part a mix of Asian cuisines from Thailand, China and Japan. There are a few American staples such as burger and fries, chicken pot pie, a variety of homemade ice creams and other desserts on the menu as well. Side note: they only accept cash or Amex. I’ll start with the good part — the food was tasty and flavorful. It also was delivered steaming hot. The portion sizes were huge with more than enough to take home for another meal. Both my husband and I were happy with our main dishes. What ruined our experience, and why we will never go back, was the service. First, we sat for nearly 10 minutes without any acknowledgement. Not even a «I’ll be right with you,» or «here’s some water while you wait.» The restaurant was not at all busy — there were only 2 other tables; one of which were already well into their meal so they weren’t in immediate need anything. The other table’s orders had been taken and they were waiting for their food to be delivered to their table. There seemed to only be one waiter taking orders but other staff were milling around the dining area and up front. When we flagged down the server, he quickly took our orders and ran away as if his pants were on fire. If we had questions about the menu, he did not plan to stick around to answer them, that’s for sure. As our appetizer was eaten and our main course were delivered, no plates were taken away nor were our drinks refilled unless we could get the waiters attention who seemed to by this point be more interested in other patrons who’d come in. When finished, my husband asked for his remaining food to boxed up by another server(who’d been standing around not far from our table). She delivered a to-go container to the table as if it was burning her hands. We noticed that other patrons’ had had their leftover food boxed up for them but somehow this was not a service extended to us. As a new resident to Englewood, we went based on a recommendation of a friend for their desserts/homemade ice cream. Unfortunately, we didn’t stay for dessert as we originally planned. We just wanted to leave after our meals rather than be subjected any longer to their less than friendly service. The final straw — when we asked to see the manager to mention that the service had been so poor, she nodded through our comments as if to placate us and walked away without any real verbal acknowledgement or apology. I refuse to spend my money at a place that does not respect its customers. Although I don’t plan to ever go there again, I’d recommend Baumgart’s food. Perhaps the experience with takeout is better.

I go to this location approximately 3x a month and am never disappointed. Recommendations, lettuce and chicken wraps, won ton soup, house special fried rice, beef with scallions and shrimp with crispy walnuts… And of course, ALL the ice cream… Great job guys… Keep it up

The sushi pizza was delicious. The view was great and the service was on point! Definitely would go back and explore the rest of the menu.

The food was pretty good but a little pricey. I didn’t mind the 50’s luncheonette motif but what bothered me the most was that they only accepted American Express. I’ve never heard of a restaurant that didn’t take Visa. I was fortunate to have cash on me or I would’ve had to leave and walk around town for an ATM. Just ok

This restaurant just needs to close. When we first walked in, the place was pretty empty, probably 5 customers at most. Our party of 6 plus a baby, we were told to wait outside for a table! I believe this was the owner. Seriously? ! Outside, and yes she was rude! The only reason I didn’t walk out was bc it was my sister’s graduation and for some reason everyone wanted to stay. Never have I been to a restaurant with such bad service. The waiter messed up on our meal at least 5 times. And had an attitude about it. Our lunch specials came with spring rolls, and he forgot one. Instead of fixing it he had the audacity to really count the spring rolls. Like he didn’t fuck up once again. This restaurant is seriously falling apart. Everything is outdated, the ceiling glass has a huge crack and they really just don’t care about the appearance of their establishment. So I was’t surprised that food was crap. Also, they are doing way too much. What kind of restaurant is this? ice cream parlor sushi chinese food american make up your minds??? SAVEYOURTIMEAND $$$ PEOPLE! YOUWILLTHANKME! =)

Why are people still coming here? This place is like opening your fridge and choosing between what you have left from all of last week. Chinese? Thai? Japanese? American? Ice cream? I guess all they’re missing is shawarma and hibachi. The décor is interesting. It’s basically a blend of a Chinese restaurant mixed with an ice cream parlor from the 70s. I’ve had their sushi and Thai food, but sadly wasn’t thrilled at all. The staff are always friendly!!!

Baumgarts is great for the family, and it is a great Hangout spots for kids and teens. But to be brutally honest, it is not the best. I am willing to give Baumgarts a 5 star review for their ambiance and«malt shop» décor. Their Milkshakes and desserts are some of the best in Englewood. Where Baumgarts falls short is at the food. Yes they have a wide variety of food such as burgers to dumplings to boneless ribs. I had their fries once and they were over-salted and soggy. Their dumplings are good but not amazing. I have to say that their Boneless ribs were amazing and are my go to meal. I have been to Baumgarts a couple of times, but one time I went, I ordered the Vegetable Lo Mein and I was sick to my stomach for the next few days. I love their Vanilla Milkshakes and their root beer floats are up to par. All in all, Good milkshakes, Great Floats and desserts, Wonderful ambiance, but the food is sub-par. I loved coming here as a kid and a teen, so I definitely recommend this for kids and teens, but only kids and teens.

Well I can’t rate the food because I didn’t eat it. Just after we ordered, I noticed a large cockroach on the floor, upside down, legs squirming. This was at lunch time and in the seating area, so if this guy found his way there who knows how many of his friends are in the kitchen… needless to say we told our server and left. Overall the place was not clean as I had to brush crumbs from the seat when I went to sit down, I should’ve taken that as a clue…

The food is actually decent, though expensive as hell for what it is. But if you’re looking for a delivery place, forget this place, unless you don’t mind 1 hour+ waits and just about the worst service in the area. Also, even though they have online ordering, the site doesn’t work well. You’ll get order confirmations even if the order didn’t go through. Then, when you call them to check on your order, instead of being apologetic or checking their system to see what is happening, they tell you that you should log on to your credit card account, even though you have a confirmation and an order number to give them. They’ve now lost a previously regular customer, who’s become sick of being taken for granted.

I’ve been coming here on Valentine’s Day for about 5 yrs now and it’s still as awesome as it was the first time. We had a 6pm reservation for 14 people. We got there on time and we sat immediately. I was surprised that it was pretty dead in there but that worked out great for us. We were able sit with basically no one around us so we didn’t have to worry about keeping down the noise. I started off with a wonton soup, then had some pan fried shrimp dumplings and an order of juicy, meaty & tasty bbq baby back ribs. Next up the sushi. We picked the crunchy lobster roll.(Inside: lobster salad, tempura flake. Outside: spicy tuna, masago & tea rice on top). It was superb. After all that settled it was time for the superstar dish, the main attraction, my favorite item on the menu, the crispy sesame chicken. Wow that’s all I can really say. It’s cooked to perfection and it taste amazing. I ordered house special fried rice to go along with it because that’s what I’ve always done. I don’t need a side or white or brown rice, bring on the good stuff! After all this food I was at the point of food coma but I composed my self, took a deep breath, and waited about 10 mins for dessert, homemade pistachio ice cream. Yum!

We went here on a Friday night. Parking was a challenge — we had to circle the block and still ended up having to park 3 blocks away. It’s basically Chinese food in a really cool ice cream parlor setting. Sitting in the chrome and seafoam vinyl booths, you literally feel transported to 1955. Looking around you expect to see girls walking in wearing poodle skirts and saddle shoes! The food was ok, but for these prices I expected a lot better. The menu is mostly basic Chinese dishes, but double what you’d pay for takeout. The ice cream is really good though. I’d go back, but if I did it would be for the ice cream:-)

Not a bad place near my office. I suppose the most unusual aspect of this place is how it looks like an old-time American eatery — but once you walk in it turns out this place is a Chinese restaurant with a(somewhat odd) fusion menu. I tried the BLT here before and it was fine. Nothing that screams amazing and is comparable to the quality of food I get over at Tenafly diner. My friend tried the dumplings and he seemed to like it but didn’t really gush over it. In the future we’ll definitely consider coming back to explore more of the menu — but if you’re looking for a relatively solid place with a fusion menu this isn’t a bad choice if you’re in the area.
