This place has really improved since I first visited a couple years ago. Staff is very friendly and their salsa is very fresh and tasty. Beef fajitas are very good and their lunch menu is very reasonable. I’d have given 5 stars if their complementary chips were more authentic, they seemed rather plain like they came out of a bag. It would also be great if the offered draught beer, as I recalled they only had bottled beer. I’ll definitely be back.

Excellent meal and service! Very large portion of beans and rice with the combination plates. Beef taco had lots of meat and wasn’t too greasy(you have to have some grease or it isn’t authentic). Red enchiladas were very flavorful. We came in right before closing and were served with a smile. The ice tea was excellent. We’ll be back!

This would be a three star review, however I’m deducting one star due to them not having a hard liquor license. You can’t have tequila without a hard liquor license and you can’t have a margarita without tequila but ultimately you can’t have mexican food without margaritas!!! Seriously, they put white wine in their margaritas not tequila, pretty disappointing. $ 11.75 for a bean burrito dinner that’s just refried beans and rice in a large flour tortilla with tomatillo sauce on top is ridiculous but the vegetarian options were very slim. I’d stick with the Pollo Monterey which was well worth the money according to my boyfriend and his father. The glass of merlot was way undersized for the price as well. Salsa was a bit sweeter than others but pretty good and the pico de gallo was well worth the $ 1.50. Meh, not worth the trek.

Went here with my fiancé after reading good reviews. We were expecting to be satisfied but we were anything but. Upon first entering we thought there was a good atmosphere, low lighting and warm colors. But as our eyes adjusted we saw how little attention they paid to the upkeep of the place. It looked dirty, the paint was chipping and peeling of the walls, at least where we were sat. The chairs looked old and the paint was coming off of them. The benches at the booths looked comfy but turned out to be not at all. I ordered a cheese quesadilla thinking it’s impossible to screw it up. It was sub par. The cheese made me feel sicky. I ordered a Dos Equis beer and it was expensive for what it was. My fiancé ordered shrimp fajitas and when they came they were dithered in cheese, hiding the shrimp. When we put them in the tortillas and took a bite he found shrimp tails still on the shrimp. On all of them. When he asked the waitress if that was normal she said yes. Who does that? Who leaves the trails on shrimp that is going into a meal? The refried beans tasted awful. Over all the service was ok but not great. The food tasted ok as well. Not the worst but not great. I don’t think we will be going back.

just ok. Waitress was really slow and friendly until she turned away from you. We had the green tomatillo enchiladas, a burrito, beef enchiladas. Salsa is very mild and seemed fresh but had a bit of an odd flavor. We are surprised at all the good reviews. It looks nice outside but is just ok.

Great chips and salsa… Unfortunately nothing else was very good at all. I ordered shrimp fajitas, while waiting for my meal I glanced around and saw that this very dark restaurant was only dark because it’s filthy. I immediately regretted the choice of shrimp. The waitress returned and told me, «I’m sorry we are all out of shrimp» i said«wonderful I’ll have portobello instead.» She returned moments later and said«you’re gonna laugh, you got the last of the shrimp» I wasn’t laughing… She brought out our meal and I took a bite and got a mouthful of shrimp tales… Who leaves tails on grilled shrimp when it’s part of dish? After swallowing my first bites I pushed my meal away. I asked the waitress«do you normally leave the tails on?» She replied«yes». I paid my bill and left. This only happened 30 minutes ago, but I think I should drink some ipecac to try to avoid food poisoning.

My husband and I are in Englewood on vacation and are trying different restaurants. Compadre’s is on our list of go to again restaurants. My husband had Carne Asada and he really enjoyed it, I had a Combo plate with a Chimichanga and Tamale it was great both dinners came with beans and rice. Chips and salsa was great. Waitress was very polite and kept our basket of chips and dish of salsa filled. We will becoming back again when we are in Englewood.

Compadres is a great Mexican restaurant with good service close to everything in Englewood we have been going there for years and the staff has our drinks ready when they welcome us at the door. Love the luncheon specials and salsa(we take home) is just hot enough to enjoy. The people there are happy to see you and refill drinks n chips right away. We love being waited on!!!

We’ve eaten at Compadre’s for many years. We’ve always enjoyed our dishes and never left feeling hungry as the servings are large. Located in a nice area to stroll around pre or post dining. Kid friendly.

If you really need a Mexican food fix and you can’t drive anywhere else then stop here. Otherwise, I don’t see why anybody would ever eat here. The most authentic thing they made is their spicy green salsa which they warn you is hot. They aren’t lying because it is very hot but has probably the most flavor you will find in this restaurant. The regular salsa is decent but is mild at best. The rice is some mushy type of Spanish/Mexican combo… opt out and just get the beans. The beans aren’t too bad. They are trying to make their own taco shells and chips so they get credit for the attempt. The tacos automatically come with a fried corn shell that they make… not too bad but unfortunately the toppings did not impress me. There is no tongue, tripe, goat or anything remotely authentic. I would say this is Tex Mex but I don’t think that was their intent. If you are desperate for a Mexican fix then try it otherwise I would stay away. PS — The sign is very inviting when entering stating you need to spend $ 8/person to get free chips and salsa :)

Food is good. Fajitas come with larger hunks of meat than typical but tasted excellent. Enchiladas were good. Tamales were small and were nearly lost in the rest of the sauces. Beans and rice were flavorful as was the salsa(heavy on the cilantro). Chips were OK but the salsa made them go down easy. Dark interior, quiet, prompt & attentive service.

Great salsa and excellent service !!! The enchiladas and tamales were okay but not exceptional, adding salsa helped. Also tried the taco soup which was good.

The food is not authentic. They don’t even have tacos el pastor. I did eat my food it was good/ok, service was good. The portions are generous. But this is a premade menu, not their own, and most of it is delivered frozen in a box. Dissappointing… It is very hard to find authentic…

Apparently this place is hit or miss. I have never read such mixed reviews. My meal was not good, barely edible, and my husband couldn’t stop raving on how good his was. We both got the lunch pick two. I chose chicken chimi and chicken enchilada. My chimi was soggy but warm. My enchilada was barely warm to where the cheese on top had hardened back up. I did not like my dinner at all. I didn’t even think it was possible to mess up a chimichanga. I will not go back… My husband on the other hand loved it and said his pork tamale was delicious, and he also had a taco. While he said it was the smallest taco he had ever seen, he said he thought it was good. Our waitress brought our plates out one at a time because she only had one free hand, the other one was holding her phone to ear.(Yes, I am not kidding). She did say she was there all day and no one called and now everyone was calling. By the way we were the ONLY patrons in there at 3:30. Also when we ordered she only took my husbands drink order(coke, we tried to find out if they had fresh brewed ice tea, but she couldn’t understand what we were asking so we said coke). She brought him a coke, but brought me an ice water, we laughed it off and I settled for water. When the bill came she had charged us for two drinks instead of one. She apologized and corrected it. I never told my husband that I didn’t care for my meal so as not to ruin his experience, and good luck trying to convey any problem to the staff, so there you have it. A hit and a total miss for my part…

Waitstaff was friendly but the had more staff on than needed. The rest of the ladies sat in the corner and spoke loudly in Spanish to each other. Chips and salsa immediately and they were both good. The politos appetizer came out practically immediately after ordering, but I wasn’t a fan. My quesadilla took at least 30 minutes to arrive and the place was practically empty. When I received the change for my bill she rounded-up in their favor shorting me about $.25. So I rounded down on my tip to compensate.

My husband and I visited Englewood for the first time the other day after moving to Florida. Since it was around lunch time, we were in search of a place to eat. My husband immediately spotted Compadre’s. We went in to check out the menu before committing. My husband said«let’s eat here». Apparently, he had asked one of the other patrons how the food was and got a «it’s great.» We agree wholeheartedly with that patron. Excellent food! The salsa was awesome and our meals didn’t disappoint either. I had the fish tacos which were some of the best I’ve ever had. My husband had the lunch special where you get to pick two items. He picked the chimichanga and the beef taco and said both were very good. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I think we will be going here again.

The salsa was very mild but not lacking flavor. The stuffed poblano with chicken was also mild but tasty. The beans were good. As far as Mexican food goes it was okay but way too bland for me. Well what can I say? I’m in FL.

We have never had a bad experience or meal here. We enjoy this place very much. The staff is extremely polite and friendly. Their chips and salsa are fantastic, and they always make sure to keep them both full. The portions are very generous. My fiancé orders the grilled chicken burrito every single time we are there, I personally always order items off of the combination menu. Mexican is our favorite food, and this place is very authentic. We will always come back to support this business.
