Five Leaves, I was told of your wonder and brilliance, and boy oh boy, you did not disappoint. I came down for a poetry reading, hosted by my dear old friend J Todd Underhill, who runs a spoken word night there. I had been planning to get down there for about 6 months, when finally the chance came to pass. The place had that«old poet» feel, like Muddy’s and The Black Pearl once did. I suspect this would be the perfect place to relax over one of the best cups of coffee you’re bound to get in Denver, and pick up the Scrabble board and play a stranger, for old time’s sake. I love this place, and if you haven’t experienced one of J Todd’s readings there, go; it’s not just people reading their own stuff, it’s people reading their originals and the things they find truly inspiring. It’s a good experience, with polished«old school Denver» poets, sharing what they do best, and doing it masterfully. Now, to praise the coffee: Five Leaves offers coffee made in porcelain pour-over sieves, and the coffee never comes out bitter or overbrewed that way. they use the ever-storied and never-bad Novo coffee, and they serve it up a coffee dish reminiscent of the Mike Myers ‘So I Married an Axe Murder” quote: «I ordered a CUP-o-chino, not a BOWL-o-Chino». It’s a big cup, full of flavor and robustness, and like I said, they brew it right. Five Leaves is located in an old house that the owners have had in their family for generations. Read the history of the place on their website, and how it came to be a coffeehouse. It’s interesting, and a worthy read. This is an honest jewel in the middle of downtown Englewood, yet nestled in a tough-to-find spot, which is ironically in the middle of everything, like some awesome and bizarre juxtaposition. Go, if for nothing else, to feel the old Denver settle around you, and understand that strangers here at Five Leaves are truly just friends you haven’t met yet.

I have been attempting to try this place for a couple of weeks. There were no holiday hours or notifications on their website indicating that their normal hours would be relaxed etc… and EVERY time I go there when it’s supposed to be open, it’s closed. I tried again this morning and there’s a closed sign on the door. Maybe the owners of this place can put some accurate hours on their website or be there when they are supposed to. It shouldn’t be a challange just to get into the place. Maybe one of these days, I’ll get lucky and they will be open. I took my business to Caribou… I tried again at 093003/26/2011…Closed…I’m done w/your place… went to Dazbog.

I’ve been here twice now with friends, and we really love it. The building used to house Tea with Tina, and now it’s a great little coffeehouse. We tried the breakfast burritos this morning. Mine had just the right amount of «spicy» to it. Had lots of catching up to do with my friends and I forgot to ask them how they like theirs. The coffee is really good. Atmosphere is the best; just like sitting and talking in someone’s living room. Prices are good… this is just a really great little place, and I hope it’s around for a long time!

Really loved the comfortable, non-corporate atmosphere of this place. It’s warm, inviting and, best part, excellent coffee. I mean REALLY good. Try to come visit when you are not rushing in for a paper cup of caffeine. This is a place to meet up with friends and LINGER over good coffee and conversation. Can’t wait to sip a cup on the patio this summer.

Am I the only person that really likes residential places converted into businesses? Hope not ’cause this place deserves to be around for a long time to come. Novo coffee is pretty high on my list of coffee tastiness and that’s what’s being offered brewed by the cup, filtered glass funnel style. Didn’t have a chance to really take in the joint ’cause i was making guitar noises with a friend there when I visited. Next time… well I might be making guitar noises again there but I will definitely devote some time to enjoy my surroundings with my cuppa.

Gotta love artisian coffee! This isn’t your typical chain. It’s about time a place ike this hit the Denver area.

So, I am totally loving this place. I have had the Larimer Hot House burritos — which are the best! The Novo Coffee is outstanding. The Vuka juices are a great plus as well. Only good things expected here.
