The Southwest Denver YMCA has been a part of my life since I was five and came here for day care. Now that I’m an adult, I use the facilities for recreation and exercise. When you first sign up, they offer you a free session with a personal trainer to figure out the machines and set goals for yourself, which is quite helpful. They have a huge pool that offers Aquacise, lap swimming and free swim. However, you have to keep up with the hours for when all of those things occur. Afterwards you can chill in the hot tub and relax. Everyone is very friendly. Their clientele for the most part is an elderly crowd, but that’s one of my favorite things about the place. I love getting on the stationary bike next to an 80 year old woman who can out exercise me any day, it gives me hope for my latter years. They do offer a nursery for your children while you work out, however, it has award hours that do not really correspond with the classes that they offer. Additionally, they do not change diapers in the nursery and will come get you if your child’s diaper needs to be changed. Overall, I’ll continue to choose the YMCA for my gym membership because of the variety of classes and facilities they offer. You can do anything from Zumba to racket ball, or simply work out independently on the machines which all have individual televisions(don’t forget your headphones!).
