By Design is a great source for contemporary furniture; I can’t think of any place like it outside the city. They have a huge showroom, and the staff are very friendly and knowledgable.
It’s definitely not the kind of store that is going to appeal to everyone; they carry some very classically modern furniture, but also some things that are a little on the avant garde side. They also have a huge Ekornes gallery, which are, if you don’t know, about the greatest reclining chairs in the world.
I’ve never had anything but great experiences with them. If I had one complaint, it’s that the entrance to the parking lot can be a little hard to find, but once you know where it is, the worst is over.
Their pricing is also very reasonable, and they carry a lot of really cool accessories. If you like contemporary furniture and you live in the area, By Design would be your best choice, even if it wasn’t more or less your only one.
