Well, hell! If I’d known that bed and breakfasts could be this great, I would have been staying at them –long– before this past weekend. Kudos to our hosts and proprietor/ess duo of Mike and Maryanne for opening up this beautiful Victorian mansion to the unwashed masses of the public. I mean… not –me-, of course. I’m always fresh and clean like raindrops and artesian springs. Ask about some of the historical pieces that came with the property — the stories are equally as rich and lush as their appearances. Our room, Madeline’s Studio, was handsomely appointed. I was also fond of the TJ’s brand bath toiletries. Oh, TJ’s, how I miss you on this side of the pond! The free wi-fi throughout the building was icing on the cake. So, I’ve raved enough about the bed part of this B-‘n’-B, on to the breakfast. There’s nothing much to share here other than each of the three meals we launched our days with were perfectly filling, verging on indulgent. Fresh, perfectly ripe fruit and a mug of steaming coffee(or tea, if you prefer) start things off, and if you’re lucky enough to have some of Mike’s lemon soufflé pancakes, you’ll be celebrating in your seat like I was. Though it’s a little bit off the beaten path, I’d much rather stay at Plumercrest, away from the hustle and bustle of some more central joints in Portsmouth or Kittery proper. You’ll have an opportunity to experience the true New Hampshire, meet some lovely innkeepers, and most importantly, get away from it all. P. S. If you do take my recommendation to make a getaway to Plumercrest, wave hi to Ms. Gigi for me. We already miss her!
