Aunty Devi’s Meat Pies

Like the testimonials on their website claim, these pies are exactly what you’d find in New Zealand. I’ve been there twice and after coming back home, I found it hard to cope with the fact that the states just don’t have an appreciation for flaky little pastries filled with delicious meats and veg. It wasn’t until going to the Rugby 7’s tournament in Vegas that we found out about Aunty Devi’s and we were even more elated when we discovered they operated in the same town we lived in! Seriously, do yourself a favor, don’t ask any questions and get yourself some of these pies! You’re welcome.

Mike delivered dozens of the lunch-​sized pies for a «Pi» party– and they were a huge hit with all! Flaky beautiful pastry with plenty of meat and cheese… delicious and easy to eat. SUPER-​GREAT!

Love the pies, sausage rolls and Devi! This place is the best. Usually get $ 100 – 200 worth to go. They travel well, and completely worth it.

Devi’s are the real thing. As a Kiwi, I can tell you that her pies are actually better than what you will find in NZ, because she uses quality ingredients, and they aren’t served after having sat in a pie warmer for several days and become super heated and dry!
Call ahead if you want to buy them and be prepared to be delighted. All of our American rellies (relatives) have become enthusiastic consumers of her products to the extent we know we have to order plenty in advance of their visits.

A little pricey… but WELL worth it. DEvi is a sweet kiwi gal. She make delicious meat pies! (I ordered and ate the frozen ones) :)

Definitely not geared for walk in customers. Too bad :(You have to call in advance to order or you will be wasting your time. When I went there (Tuesday 1pm) they had fresh zero pies ready (strike 1) and only a very limited variety of frozen pies in stock (strike 2), so a big waste of time. No apology — just too bad shrug :(Sure they are in an industrial park, and not a retail center, but we drive (I drove 30 miles) far to get our speciality food items which we cannot find at regular stores. I appreciate their business model may work for them, but then they should at least state that on their website and be honest and upfront. Do not go there without calling in advance to place your order. This also means you can’t buy any one pie and sample test the product before you order. There is no parking and the street is full. After parking far away and walking to the store there is a sign in the window about parking in the back — that doesn’t help when you are down in the street driving up and down (strike 3). I wish I could be able to buy their meat pies but after this negative experience I will not try to support them again. Too bad again :(

Aunty Devi’s Meat Pies are the best find in Escondido. I went to their place in Escondido. Found their meat pies to be ordered in different flavors. I ordered the Steak Pie and shared it as an appetizer with a family member.
Truly delicious! I will go back and get more.

Oscar’s Meat Pies food truck apparently resells these pies. Look for Oscar at the N. County watering holes, I picked up a variety of frozen pies from him at Fezziwigs Brewing.
Steak-​and-​kidney is the real deal, if you’ve never had it, try it… but there are other flavors like mushroom and steak-​n-​cheese for the less adventurous.

These pie’s are legit. I drive from Temecula and get 20 – 30 at a time. They travel well and keep in the freezer. Devi’s beyond nice and very accomidating. You’re crazy if you only buy one pie. They’re so good. You’ll need/​want two of each. Love this place!

Living in Orange County, I have made it my goal to find meat pies anywhere nearby. The only place I have found was Aunty Devi’s. It is a shame that she doesn’t have a chain of places yet like this. The meat pies are amazing, I was even down there on a weekend that she wasn’t open, I gave her a call and she was happy to swing by and open the shop for me. I ended up buying 60 dollars worth of pies since they are easily frozen and reheated. Not sure how the Reviewer Tony B was never able to get a hold of her. Amazing pies that take my back to my time in Australia!

As a kiwi, living in North County, I was stoked to find a Kiwi bakery, run by a Kiwi, and who makes some of the best pies I have ever tasted. Anyone that knows anything about Kiwis, will know that meat pies to New Zealanders are what burrittos are to San Diegans, we have them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The flavours are great, my personal favourites being the mince (ground beef) and the curried chicken. Its always best to call the day before and tell her you are coming, especially if you want a hot pie waiting…

Actually, I don’t know how to review them since I haven’t been able to try them yet.
I live +30 miles away in San Diego and I showed up on 2 separate occasions during their posted hours and they were closed both — once on a Tuesday. The second on a Thursday — I tried calling ahead both times and no one answered. I would love to try them before I have to buy a dozen for delivery + $ 25 delivery fee…

So good!!! So fresh. Quality ingredients. If you like meat pies, these are the best. I used to make homemade meat pies (kids love them smothered in catsup) but they are a huge pain to make & these actually taste better! And the sausage rolls are delicious. The minced meat pie (like ground burger) sooooo good. Friends from New Zealand love this place and told me about it, said their pies are just like the ones they get at home. Can’t wait to try everything else they make.

These pies are made with the finest ingredients and you can taste it… Aunt Devi, makes the best meat pies I have ever tasted… Once you try one, you will have to stock your freezer up as we did as the they are great to have as a special treat or when guest come to town, but be aware they don’t last long… they are just too good!
