Elena Karavodin is the painter of these beautiful orchids and big colorful flowers as pretty as her natural Russian origin beauty. Even if born and raised in California, she preserves the allure of a Russian doll and it was a pleasure for my friend Ciry and myself to observe her in action, using the aid of a tablet and a portable easel doing some demos in her studio inside the Distinction Gallery in Escondido. She was one of my favorite in house artists showcased in the exhibit and found her oils very attractive(as opposed as the mostly Gothic or dark look of many of the paintings from other artists). She took her time to explain some of her techniques, like drawing from a picture, and doing the drawing in canvas first before applying the paint. Or using a glass palette for the mixes instead of the classic wood palette. Plus her business cards are a gift by themselves, so pretty!
