Tucked away up a curvy road this winery offers wine tasting served with a heavy dose of peace and quiet. Gorgeous views outside are complimented with awesome interior design and landscaping. A great place to take a break from the safari park. Is just down the way and worth the very short drive here. The guys serving inside knew their stuff and apart from my own social awkwardness were very generous. Go here. It’s awesome.

This is definitely a hidden gem in Escondido. My sister and I like to try wineries and we saw a sign for a winery on the way back from Ramona, so we figured why not try it. Wow! We were served by the winemaker and his mother which was great. They were both very friendly and knowledgeable. Wine tastings run $ 15 for 5 tastes or $ 18 if you want the logo glass. I have to say, it was a very great experience. The winery is small, but very classy. There is a good amount of seating outside and inside which is nice. The view is amazing and the décor is great. The wines were great, and I especially liked the Super Tuscan(the Barbera and Tempranillo were also good). I couldn’t get over how this place ran like it was open for a very long time as it ran so smoothly, but we were told it hasn’t been open very long at all. Wow! For wine with a view and service, definitely give this place a try.

We live in Nor Cal pretty close to Napa and Sonoma so we’re always up for tastings in different regions. We’ve found gems in Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, and now Escondido! In looking up wineries nearby the parent’s house, Unilocal led us to Hungry Hawk. We were served by the winemaker’s father and mother and they were lovely to talk to. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the view while marveling at how a new vineyard could come up with such tasty offerings. The gang was absolutely sold on both the Malbec and the Queue Rouge(red tail) as well as the homemade toffee. We scored two bottles of the Blueberry wine(yes, blueberry wine. Not wine with blueberry flavor but actual wine made from blueberries). I felt like this could make a killer cocktail, or perhaps something we could mix with champagne over a nice brunch. It’s not too sweet like many dessert wines. We though the Barbera had a lot of potential, but needed some time. We bought a bottle and stowed it away in the parents wine cabinet marked for next year’s Thanksgiving. What a treat. We ended up getting an entire case because they had such yummy options.

This was our first of 3 wineries we tasted and everything was very tasty. I do wish I bought a bottle before leaving. Malbec was my favorite by far with barries and the hint of caramel. The patio was covered with bistro sets so we can enjoy our wine and the beautiful scenery as well. The owner was very knowledgeable with his wine and making wine in general. I could’ve stayed longer and asked more questions! Definitely would recommend this place to everyone.

Stayed at Welk and wanted to try some local Escondido wines. Hungry Hawk caught our eye. We visited the Safari Park during the week and then went to Hungry Hawk, by appointment, to taste some great wines.(Went during the week so we arranged an appointment a day in advance). No appointment needed on weekends. Had some delicious wines. This is a family owned and operated winery. In fact, Mike, the winemaker welcomed us & provided us with a wealth of information on the microclimates, the varietals, wine making process, the amazing toffee by Kate, and their resident hawk, Hermoine. Bird lovers; bring your binoculars to catch a glimpse of her. They are producing excellent wines. We chose to take a bottle of Syrah Noir for a special dinner. This is an exclusive wine with limited production. You will love the rich, silky smooth texture with cherry and berry jam aroma and taste. Try for yourself. Check out the view from the patio. Like being in Tuscany. Ciao!

Had a nice ride out to the almost new winery today. The view was pretty and Jeannine was very pleasant to speak with. The wine was very good, so the tastings were a tease! I wanted more! Lol Can’t wait to go back again as they keep adding more varieties of great wine. It’s nice to have a good local winery we can visit often. Thanks you guys for a relaxing and pleasant afternoon!

Hungry Hawk Winery has become a go to place for us. The wine maker Mike is creative and knowledgable. His wines are fabulous. We especially enjoy the Tempranillo, Malbec, and Syrah Noir. Ed and Jeannine make us feel like we are guest in their home. The beautiful patio and spectacular views and wonderful wines have provided us with many relaxing afternoons. We are always welcomed on a first name basis. Try this lovely family owned winery tucked away in the San Pasqual Valley. You will be glad that you did!!! Daro and Lynn

My husband and I love this small family owned winery in Escondido. On our first visit we met the owner and his wife and the wine maker who poured our tastings. The wine maker, Mike gave us a tour of the winery and talked with us about his wines and the family business. The owners are really neat people too and are so inviting into their winery. We joined the wine club as soon as it was offered. We love all their wines but the Cabernet Franc and the Tempranillo are my favorites. The Alberino is my favorite white wine so far. We like to meet friends here on the weekends and buy a bottle of wine and bring a small picnic. It is very family friendly and a beautiful view on the outdoor terrace. It is really a hidden gem in the area. Try it you’ll love it!

My husband, our 21 month old son and I scheduled a private tasting at the Hungry Hawk Vineyards(because we were leaving town before the weekend). This was so worth it! This is their first year of operation(they open in October 2014) and their wine is already great! They offer both white and red wines. My favorite was the Tempranillo and my husband liked the Syrah and the Cabernet Franc the most. We hung out with both Mike and Jeannine and they were both amazing! It is pretty cool to meet and visit with the ones who make the wines! They were also very accommodating with our toddler.

A wonderful experience at a unique & beautiful winery, not to mention the tasty wine! With My husband and a few of our friends, we stopped into this hidden gem for a few hours this past Sunday. The owners were available to give us a nice tasting, a tour of the property & some interesting facts about wine making! My favorites were the Mélange Blanc which is a combo of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay & Viognier & the Tempranillo which boast flavors of chocolate and coffee. It was a pleasant get away from our normal routine and we will definitely be back for more. Thank you Hungry Hawk!!!

Went for wine tasting with my girlfriends and we were impressed! Situated in Escondido up on a road you’d think is just a residential area, but low and behold there’s a winery! They have good sized tasting room with chairs and tables, but if it’s a lovely day go enjoy your tasting outside! If you come at the right time, you’ll see the owner feed one of the hawks that lives close by.(Hence the name). I really enjoyed the wines both red and white. I enjoyed the sauvignon blanc — a nice, light, and refreshing wine — best served chilled. The Barbera and syrah noir were wonderful as well. The manager and owner are very friendly and great to chat with about the history of the winery and the wines you’re drinking. I’d definitely return not only to wine taste but purchase more of that sauvignon blanc!

We are from Virginia wine country, and are really enjoying getting to know SoCal wineries… Hungry Hawk is a hit on our list! We prefer reds, but ended up purchasing a bottle of their signature white, a blend of Chardonnay and Alberino. Very pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, really excellent wine… we’ll be back!

Very personable wine tenders, gave a great variety of wines and have a fantastic outdoor seating area. Definitely one of the hidden gems of Ramona valley! You’re welcome to bring a bite and enjoy a bottle of one of their wines while looking over their beautiful vineyards!

Okay. I am highly impressed with this winery. I am not an expert but I am better than the average bear when it comes to wine… that is, I’m picky. I absolutely love this winery. It’s hard sometimes to go to a place and love the ambience, love the décor, and have so-so wine. You wish you could bring yourself to go to it again but you just can’t. This one knocks it out of the ball park that I had to review it right away before life gets in the way. This family owned winery is impressive. Beautiful grounds, breathtaking property, simply a place where you could spend hours at. But then you’ve got these amazing wines that are pretty darn delicious. Truly they are yummy. But the cherry on the top are the owners. They are the friendliest most down-to-earth people I have met. I’ve gone to wineries in Temecula, Julian, Sonoma, and Santa Barbara area. These are hands down the most incredible people. They’re knowledgeable, love to share about wine making and their life, and enjoy people. This made our experience unforgettable. We will definitely be back. We will definitely spread the word. Thank you Ed, Mike, your beautiful wife, your adorable son, and your super talented sister who does all the drawings/marketing. I can’t say enough about this place!
