Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead

On the trailhead of the San Pasqual portion of the Coast-​to-​Crest hiking trail.
This unique museum/​farmstread is a must stop as you make your way up the trail to historic Mule hill. The best time to visit is on Sunday when there’s also a farmer’s market hosted on the property. Check hours, but there is a docent on some days to give you historical information about this Farmstead and the local area.
— Many people use this area as a launching point for either the east, or west portions of the Coast-​to-​Crest trail. Mostly mountain bikers, but there are hikers too.

What an adorable little farm. This past weekend, I visited Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead for the Rancho BEERnardo Beer Festival. The location is easy to find. What I really enjoyed was walking around and seeing Pomegranate tress everywhere! It was very cool seeing different vegetation in it’s nature habitat.

I highly recommend the walking excursion from Rancho Bernardo (starting from the Lake Hodge bridge) to the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead. It takes around 45 minutes at a slow/​normal pace and is not only a great workout on a sunny day, but also you will see how well connected is Rancho Bernardo with that initial portion of Escondido. I saw the Adobe house before and after remodeling and I have to say the job done is amazing. Besides, the volunteers and staff working there are very knowledgeable and explain all you want to know about the history of the house, the family that lived there and the incipient population of SD North County, without overwhelming you.
The rooms are very nicely decorated and you feel like you are transported to another era, but they don’t forget the modern times and I was impressed the first time I went to discover they had an elevator for wheelchair users, so that is a total plus for visitors with disabilities. Sometimes there is a farmers market on Sundays, so the whole thing makes a very nice excursion from-​to Rancho Bernardo. By bicycle is also very pleasant, but be ready to find on the way tons of real bicyclists in groups, so watch out the traffic and you will see bridges with different eyes (you will pass below the freeway!).

I just had the wedding of my dreams here on January 5^th, 2013! My new husband and I were automatically head over heals for this venue when we drove up! We were also a bit surprised by the location concidering we had driven past it many many times and never knew it was there! The Manger Anne Cooper, who is also like the keeper of the property was so sweet and helpful! She really made this beautiful home even better! With my husband, a history major, from the North County area made the site an even better fit, after we heard of the rich history of the home. We decided to make this an all out door wedding and allowed our guest to wander around the inside of the house to enjoy the antique furniture and and items inside. Anne was very flexible with the home and told us we could move around the things inside and would make arrangement to store some items else where, if we saw fit. This was not necessary, the inside is just so tastefully decorated. Though the site does not have on site pluming, as mentioned before in the previous review, this was not a problem! Believe it or not there is such thing as portable flushing restrooms and that is exactly what we did. Though looking into this venture at first looked like it would have been very expensive, but with further investigation we found one that was very cost effective and reasonable! There is also the option that if you have a family member that owns an RV to bring that on site. This would also be great if there are mothers that need to change diapers. The price of the venue was perfectly reasonable considering some of the other sites we were looking at of the same rustic feel and theme cost more; the price fell just below average cost of the normal wedding venue price! Looking back on my wedding and the moment my new husband and I were driving away, this was truly the perfect wedding for us! When we arrived home from our honeymoon and started opening presents, one particularly stood out, it was from Anne, it contained handmade candles and soaps, also a few few post cards of the beautiful home. Everything about this place was very sweet and thoughtful! It will always be our home away from home!
