*******NOT A STEAKHOUSE******* It felt like we were on an episode of «Restaurant Impossible». We pull into Franks Steak House and the first thing we notice is «Steak» had been painted over making the name«Frank’s House» and pizza flags are staked in the ground in the front. We figured out very quickly that we were not having steak for dinner but still wondered how bad can it be. Décor was very outdated, dim lighting because of outdated fixtures. Food was not very good and over cooked. Drinks came out in cans. On the bright side, the waitress was very pleasant and sweet.

I’ve had their chicken, pork & steak & they have ALL been absolutely perfect! If you’re ever in or near the Cambridge/Boston area Frank’s is a MUST. You feel like you’ve stepped back in time in a good way. The booths, photos, everything is perfection. My favorite Boston area restaurant! Prices are unbelievable. Upscale without the attitude.

Cute, cozy bar and restaurant with a friendly bartender! I agree with the comment below. If you are looking for a fancy shamancy restaurant this isn’t for you. But if you are looking for a cute restaurant with no pretension, great service, good food then this is the place for you. I put it into the«hole in the wall» category. Which is a good thing to me! Those are the best places. We stopped in on a Friday night for cocktails. The bartender was so kind and helpful and helped up plan our weekend in the area. She had great recommendations and poured a delish drink. We liked her and the place so much we went out of our way to come back the next night for dinner. We had to try the steak! Food was really good. We had«the works» salad which was amazing for $ 4, french onion soup, a porterhouse steak and a yummy bacon wrapped scallop pasta. Everything was great! I wish we lived closer. We would be regulars!

If you’re looking for fancy, elegant or modern don’t eat here. If you’re looking for a great steak though, this is the place. The dining room is in the back room of a bar with about eight tables. The space is kind of shabby and straight forward. I ordered a t-bone steak and a salad with a glass of wine(you’re better off with beer here). The salad was a generous helping of romaine lettuce, onions and grape tomatoes with a nice house dressing. The rolls were fresh, hot and tasty. The steak was done perfectly(medium rare) and was tender, large and delicious. It came with sauteed carrots, sauteed zucchini and a baked potato. Perfect! In spite of some small short-comings, this is now my go-to steak house.

As you come down 9W and come around one of it’s many curves, you come across a small nondescript restaurant. They have a large sign listing the daily specials. Today being Friday, AYCE Fish Fry was listed. Not rated? Let’s go check it out! We parked and walked in as all heads turned. There was a long bar full of patrons along with a few cases of Bud and a jukebox. My sort of place! It did smell smoky, but I saw no evidence anyone was smoking. More than likely, it was smoking for some decades and the smell is impossible to get out. We get seated in the dining room and both order the fish fry(flounder). All you can eat(AYCE) fish fry and cottage fries are the bomb! Unlike most fried fish, it was 85% fish and 15% light batter. They give you two huge pieces along with a plateful of hand-cut cottage fries. It was really quite good! The staff was very friendly and took good care of us. The AYCE Fish Fry portion was huge, so we couldn’t possibly order more. However, they did sneak me some cottage fries to go home with(wowzas). Décor? The bar area is a typical bar area and quite casual. You can find some in suits while others in jeans and a t shirt. The dining room was more upscale with everyone dressed up a bit nicer. My wife loved the dishes, glasses and other décor. It was quite tasteful and some, probably quite old. The dining area was quiet despite a few other families joining us. This is a smallish restaurant that can probably fit about a dozen in the bar area and perhaps 5 tables in the dining room. Everyone there seemed to know each other especially the owner Frank. Frank and the chef came around to ask how everything was and was quite interested in making sure everyone was happy. This is truly a bar /restaurant where everyone knows your name. We were the lone exceptions, I believe.
