Market of Choice

The prices here are a bit expensive but it has good quality foods. The wine selection in particular is good.

The pizzas here are fairly good and used to be well priced, but they recently jacked up the price $ 4 – 6 bucks a pie which puts them up there with delivery. Since there is better pizza in town which will bring it to your door for the same price, skip Market of Choice and hit up an either better rated or cheaper delivery option.
No butcher at this store and the beer selection is minimal compared to 29^th too.

I normally find MoC to be one of my favorite places to shop. Two days in a row the guy behind the deli counter was rude and unfriendly to me. Figured the first time he was having a bad day. Tried to be friendly the second time but… I get service work can be hard but will avoid going back.
Additionally this particular MoC is smaller and has a much worse selection then the others I have been to. Things tend to be more expensive and there are less options.

The best grocery store chain I have ever experienced. Have different price ranges for all tastes.

I love Market of Choice and it is indeed my market of choice when in Oregon (which is a lot). It is indeed very Whole Foods and serves that sort of specific purpose. A reliable place to pick up wine (deep and wide non-​Safeway selection), a decent deli (not great, but better than Safeway & other White Bread deli’s).
There is some variation in the MOC’s in size, offerings, staff attitudes and wine selections. The Corvallis MOC’s wine selection blows all the other MOC’s out of the water.
This specific Eugene location suffers some from endless nearby highway work (so much that we went to a different Eugene location when driving home to avoid being stuck again at the freeway on/​off ramp). This Eugene location was featuring «sushi» night and we enjoyed a very very tasty fresh crab and shrimp roll (that was a value at $ 10 & looked cool too).
This MOC has a middling wine selection. The reason for a 4-​star review instead of five is that we purchased a case of wine (as in 12 different bottles) and there were no case boxes to accommodate these wines. At check out we asked for a case box and the question confused the checker. She made zero effort to get a case box or be of any kind of help to us.
She bagged the 12 bottles. Yikes. Ten bucks says some kid is paid to crush the card board in to recycling at day’s end.
An improvement in checker training and customer service and this old, small MOC would have had a five star review.

That fifth star would come from being more economically friendly.
I started going to this Market of Choice before it was a market of choice. It was just the neighborhood store close to U of O housing. But when they rebuilt it and I went in, I was instantly in love. There is no better selection of food to be had anywhere, and the deli is second to none.
While I don’t live in Eugene any more, any time I am down there, I stop in every time to get some Tofu Pâté, a loaf of good bread and something out of the deli. I just hate that I walk out $ 30.00 poorer when I pick up picnic food.

This review is for the sushi and the bakery:
The sushi was a little overpriced but hey you get what you pay for and I think it was AWESOME! :) And I’m HIGHLY picky with my sushi. The wasabi is perfect. I first took some it was a little bland but after a few bites it kicked in and WHEW! It cleared up my sinuses quick!
And the bakrey people are very knowledgeable, we had no clue about what something was (it was a cannoli), she was able to tell us whats in it which is rare. The was more then helpful with me and my friends pickyness we wanted a certain kinda scone and they had it in the back. She went the extra mile and made sure it was all correct and telling us what was in it.
WONDERFUL customer service, cheerful people and a pretty quick check out which is also unheard of (we were there during lunch hour).

I wanted this to be a quick tip, but alas… I don’t have a phone on me. Any hoo, I just wanted to thank the young man who made my latte this afternoon. He washed his hands after taking my $$ and before making my drink!
If you’re like me, you know how rare this is. If you’re not like me, well, then start paying attention! It’s cold and flu season right now!

Definitely my go-​to grocery store in Eugene, Market of Choice always makes for a pleasant grocery shopping experience.
First of all, I seriously appreciate the tidiness and well maintained level of organization in this grocery store. All items are carefully shelved neatly and never out of place. They also offer a nice selection of brands of the same item, all priced differently but never of true poor quality which is much appreciated if you’re not trying to spend a lot of money. To save even more money, Market of Choice does offer some house-​brand items, unfortunately, the assortment is scarce…
Once you familiarize yourself with the space, you can easily get in and out in less than 20 minutes. The store is never overly crowded and the wait time in line is never dreadful. The staff are always very polite, helpful, and often have a cheery disposition.
A decent sized parking lot is available just outside the store and is rarely full which makes for a much smoother shopping trip, especially if you are purchasing a lot of items.
Market of Choice in a way reminds me of Whole Foods, offering a great selection of fresh produce and endorsing local brands and products. They also have a great bulk foods dispensary aisle which they alternate a couple times a month. I am a huge fan of the selection of trail mixes they offer. I’m not keen on salted or overly sweet trail mixes so Market of Choice provides a great selection of yummy mixes great for an afternoon snack, post-​workout refuel, etc.
Also featured in the store is a pre-​prepared foods counter which you can conveniently eat in the booths reserved for customers, behind the checkout counters. There is also a small sushi bar, salad and soup bar, and a bakery. All items made daily in the store. However, these items tend to be on the pricer side, so for salad bar fiends such as myself, mind your wallet.

Moved to Eugene not long ago. Was hoping Market of Choice would be somewhat like Whole Foods, but was extremely disappointed.
At first sight, the store décor was nice and clean. Produce section was well organized and had a wide selection of vegetables. In other isles, the selection of produces seemed quite wide.
I bought a lot of things, but quickly regretted getting when I got home. The pack of grapes I got was not fresh and dirty. A box of vegetables for salad was all wilted to the point that I had to throw away. This has never happened before when shopping at Whole Foods. The can of tomato paste cost 3 times as much as it does at Target. Even products at Whole Foods are not this pricey.
Conclusion:
This place uses fancy décor and high prices to pretend to be a high-​end groceries store, but its products and service reflect the opposite. I will probably shop at other stores such as Trader Joe’s from now on.

Just stopped here on my way back home after a wedding in South Oregon. We weren’t sure what kind of food we were looking for, but I knew this place would be a good quick stop for some grub.
I was kind of craving breakfast, but the breakfast pre-​made section didn’t look that appetizing. There were greasy hash browns and a strange scrambled egg concoction that looked suspicious to me.
Instead, I opted for a pre made chicken lettuce wrap with mandarin sauce. It was decent, had rice paper and rice noodles inside with a small portion of chicken (I’d say significantly less than one oz however). My husband got a parmesan chicken breast and a salmon skewer.
I think this place is great for grocery shopping, etc, but I don’t suggest coming here if you are looking for healthy breakfast options. This is a place to pick up a quick salad or sandwich for work, but nothing more.
I appreciate having these kinds of stores, hooray for fresh and organic products!

Bakery: If you’ve actually got the gall to quote a $ 19.99 price, «oh, no, wait a minute, it has raspberries, make that $ 22.99,» for a white chocolate cake… AT LEAST make sure it hasn’t been sitting out for a week. Poor Dad turned 66, and broke a tooth on the base. Six of his grand-​kids lost teeth too. We thought about suing, but it came out all, «Thoo-​ing.» Seriously guys, «Theriousthly?»

It’s a blast going here. Fun up beat staff great selection and clean store.
Always fresh food in the hot case and the dessert case is exquisite!
If you need great meat there meat department is the best in town hands down.

Delicious prepared food, truly amazing for a supermarket.
It gets a bit chaotic sometimes, and the staff sometimes seems overstressed. That being said, the food choices are superb: healthy, organic and sustainable, for the most part. They also sell big-​name brands, and local items. It’s very appeasing to the consumer. That being said, it’s a little more expensive then other supermarkets. In this case, you are paying for quality and sustainability.
For the café-​going crowd, this is the grocery store. For everyone else, it’s the gourmet grocery store. While Costco and Walmart lovers would probably condemn a place like this for it’s inflated pricing, I personally feel more satisfied as a customer when supporting less corporate agendas. Especially if it stays in the hand of my local community and keeps me healthier then the other options. In culmination with my thoughts of progression, I enjoy shopping at Market of Choice. It’s local, organic, non-​GMO, richly flavored, extremely well-​prepared, healthy food. What couldn’t ya love?

Robotic. Most of the «people» working in these stores can be described in this way, in my opinion. Those working in the deli section are… unpleasant, to say the least. The prep foods always look old and nasty, and the produce; well, peaches (in March!) from Chile? Nahhhhh, im good on that!
They got a lotta bulk items at fair prices, but i saw a customer get a finger chopped off for sampling a banana chip before deciding to purchase it! I mean, i understand you guys dont want people «eating all the bulk profits», but cmon, the dude was trying to decide between sweet and unsweetened banana chips, not steal a meal! Robots!
Classical conditioning, from the employees to some of the customers, often a sad sight. I usually go in wearing a disguise of some sort, and try to remember my invisibility cloak so i dont become a target! Nah, but seriously, im IN and OUTTA this spot as quick as possible, usually only buying things that are «on sale».
On the cashier side of things, there are 3 women that are actually halfway decent… eh, maybe 2 «normal» ones that i just look at and think… damn, i want you guys to be working somewhere that appreciates you, not uses you! Not to be an ass, but i cant see em «lasting» there, they are just too «human» and MOC, is strictly for the drones! Use them, dont let them use you!
Its tough, because i need ‘goods’ and MOC has them, but one must keep in mind, there are a buncha other spots in town with ‘goods’ that i dont hate myself for spending $ at.

Wedding Cake Review.
Market of Choice made my wedding cakes, and everyone loved them. They created 6 cakes for us, which was much cheaper than a traditional tiered cake. Plus, we got 6 different flavors. I ordered plenty for leftovers, but the cake was eaten up within a few minutes at the wedding. I didn’t even get any, but everyone raved. Best part– my super health-​foodie mother-​in-​law LOVED them and had a tiny slice of each one!
Ordering was easy, and the tasting session was fun. We tasted at the MOC in Corvallis, but ordered the cakes from the one on Franklin in Eugene because that was close to our wedding venue.
Friends picked them up on the way to the wedding, no problems.

This was my husband’s and my virgin voyage into a Market of Choice location as it was just down the street from our hotel in Eugene. I had read mixed reviews for Market of Choice, a small chain of grocery stores in Oregon, and have to say we were pleasantly surprised by what we found at this location.
It seemed to us sort of like what one might get were they to do a mash up of something like a Safeway and a Whole Foods. There were a lot more general, national brand name items than we expected to find at a market with a reputation for being something of a «natural» focus… things you’d never find in a Whole Foods aisle. Not brands we buy, but different strokes for different folks and we realize some shoppers choose the big national labels for many reasons. But there were also enough natural food items and more regional food items (aka «locally sourced») to keep shoppers like us interested. Maybe that’s the «…of Choice» thing in the name of the store? ;-)
We also thought the take away prepared foods section had some nice selections and so did the bakery… although we weren’t in the market to buy anything at either. The produce department looked good, although much smaller than we’d expect it to be for a store of this size… maybe that’s a factor of this being a «closer to campus» store and «on the main drag» store than a suburban neighborhood store? My hubby also thought the wine department, a pretty good sized section for the size of the store, had lots of interesting wines across the spectrum of domestic and imported and at good price points too. I liked the abundance of local and «local-​ish» bulk coffee beans to choose from.
Overall, were we at another time in a place where our options were big markets only for grocery shopping and Market of Choice was one of the options, based on the virgin voyage experience on Franklin Street in Eugene, we’d say «that felt good — let’s do it again».

MoC please take my money. all of it.
you have a great selection of food and drinks and beer and cheese and deli and yea pretty much everything. your sushi is actually pretty damn good too. it just hurts to look at prices when shopping here. but you get what you pay for. which is good stuff.
my wallet yells at me whenever i step foot in here.

Wine? I couldn’t build a cellar this big if I wanted to! And that’s not a critique on my construction abilities.
But wait, you are just looking for lunch? They’ve got so much great stuff… the pizza and mac & cheese stand out as fond memories!
And then you’ve got groceries. All that the average well-​to-​do Eugenian could need!
I wish they had these stores in California. I love this place.
