Oakway Golf Course

Fun little course. Jamaal and staff are very friendly and try to make your experience the best it can be. Don’t read too much break for most putts. They are straighter than you think. Greens are slower so tap it firm to get it there.

Stopped by for a round ⁶⁄₁₂. Paid $ 33 w/​cart. They were sanding the tee boxes, so temp tees set up in front. Not a difficult course by any definition, but enuff challenge to make things lively. Kept in good shape, lots of trees and houses, but surprisingly quiet as you make your way around. The locals seem to take a lot of pride in their course as they rightly should. I recommend this course for all that appreciate a simple but quaint golf course.

Oakway is located in a quite neighborhood and is a wide open in expensive track. It’s a pretty straight ahead golf course that is great for the beginner. Not much in the way as in vertical challenges, but plenty of straightaways and the occasional dogleg. They don’t have a range, but have a small netted hitting area to get warmed up in. It’s a relatively well kept course and convenient being that it’s in town. We never had problems getting a tee time and the guys there were friendly enough. Most of the players here are pretty cool locals, so it’s a really laid back vibe.
Parking should be plentiful and if you’re not too familiar with the area, I’d map it out first.

This is one of the friendliest places to play golf that I have ever visited. Maybe I’m just used to being around pretentious California golfers and our golf clubs, but the players and staff here seemed to all share a very warm and friendly personality.
I was staying at a hotel nearby on my trip to Oregon to pick up my Army buddy, and I found this place on the map. I called the proshop around 5PM to see if I could book a tee time, and they told me that if I walked in after six that I could play for 10 bucks walking. I got there at about quarter till, and I noticed that there was no one on the tee, and that there was a line of folks waiting to pay the twilight round. I reconned the course, and thought, holy cow– this is not a 10 dollar course. I went back into the proshop, asked to pay the regular green fee so that I could beat the rush, and I was only charged 16 bucks! I went to the tee box, and there was a couple who were teeing off. They asked if I wanted to join, and I said yes, of course, and we had a wonderful round together.
After our round, I ran into the greenskeeper, and the headpro, and they were very friendly people who did not mind shooting the shit with me for a few minutes. The clerk at the proshop gave me a club logo ball as a souvenir, and wished me a good night. These were genuine people who seemed to love their job and cared about the golfers coming through their course. Awesome place. There were a couple of tricky holes where the tee box is about 30 – 40 feet above green level, while water is in play, and a par four with a sharp dog leg right, but most holes were easy enough. Minus one half star for lack of driving range (which made my first few holes miserable) but otherwise, this place is great.
