Don is Silver Star. Silver Star is Don. Need a classic 80s flick? He got it. Need a serious high end stereo piece? He got it! Need a chance to reflect on the beauty of small, odd but wonderful business in Eugene vs. Big Corporate Red Box? Get yer movie @ Don’s place. Keep the flame alive.

A total gem, in agreement with other reviewers: visit this wonderful place with your friends while real-life video stores still exist. What a pleasure to browse among their classics and noirs. Im generally less interested in new releases, but they seemed to have a good selection. I was impressed, too, with their nice selection of foreign and art films, documentaries, bbc produced series. Very affordable too at $ 2 – 3 per video for several days. I’ll be back soon.

$ 3 for new bluerays and $ 2 for regular DVDs.(one day rentals but I would be surprised if he charges a late fee since he doesn’t accept debit cards) A pretty recent selection usually as well, good new releases. I will take walking across the street 200 ft away and rent a movie for half the price of what comcast charges.

Silver screen video originally opened in the 1980s renting Beta &VHS when it was located on Hilyard street. Times have changed and this place finds a way to hang on. Gone are Flicks and Picks, 5-star video and Hollywood video but now Silver Screen is the last local video store left. It’s not much to look at(inside or out) but I’d much rather go there than Blockbuster or Red Box.

It’s hard to believe that a little indie video rental place is in the biz well in to the 10s. Flicks n PIcks left Eugene more than seven years ago, with the indie-operated franchise of Hollywood video gone more than five years ago, too. If there’s a neighborhood to support this kind of operation, though, it’s the University and Fairmount. I, too, joined the bandwagon a few years ago. In light of our move across town as well the fact that these shops are becoming dinosaurs in this modern world. The setup is straightforward, no-frills. An «account» consists of providing one’s name and phone number. No plastic is accepted. The store opens after 4:00 during the week. with only slightly more availability on weekends. Brand-new releases you won’t find, but there is a large selection of flicks that are 6 – 12 months out. Decent selection of older comedy and action movies, with a recent BBC collection added to the comedy hits. Docus, foreign, and indie stories seem a bit thin to me, but, hey we’re talking WAY better than Blockbuster here. Very small selection of TV-DVDs. Pricing runs in the neighborhood of two movies, for five days, for five dollars; new releases are in the $ 3.50 for two-three day range. If you want to impress your friends on a Friday night, take ‘em here to actually«Rent a Movie,» from a real live person! We’re this close to seeing pictures of these types of places behind glass, folks.
