OH WOW! First words out of my mouth when I walked in. Wonderful place, I could have spent hours here. Super nice and helpful.
One of my purchases was a $ 9 cute toddler hat kit called «Top This», which is a ball of yarn that seamlessly joined three different colored yarn textures so you can knit the whole hat uninterrupted! Then you tie on a cute stuffed toy. I only recently completed it and what a hit! Super fast project with very nice quality yarns.

Soft Horizons is vast becoming my favorite yarn shop! The selection is amazing, if they don’t have it, they can get it! They go above and beyond as far as customer service. They wind your yarn and take great care of you! I like the fact that you can go in and browse, and no one pesters you! Great shop! Charming beautiful shop!

Loved this place and visited both days we stayed in Eugene. One of the nicest, most extensive yarn shops I’ve come across, with a huge selection of everything to do with knitting (and crochet). But even more than all the fantastic fiber was the wonderful service. The women who waited on me were so friendly and helpful, unlike other yarn shops I’ve been to where staff treats you like an inconvenience or outright ignores you. I cannot say enough about this shop and hope to be back again someday!

I really enjoyed my 1^st, & definitely not last visit to Soft Horizons Fibre. The variety of yarns, to the quality they carry, & the assortment of other knitting supplies was impressive. A regular customer, who was sitting at the table, was quite friendly & interested in sharing her projects with me. Very helpful & a great sense of community.

Soft Horizons was the first boutique yarn store I ever stepped into, when I was first learning to knit, so it has a special place in my Unilocal reviews. When I was convinced that I could knit a hat in a couple hours using huge yarn and size 12 needles, one of the employees gently guided me to more realistic options so I didn’t end up with something that only an elephant could fit into.
The selection of needles, trinkets/​accessories, and yarn is diverse enough for me to be inspired and want to keep coming back. Having been to other yarn shops in-​state and elsewhere, I don’t find Soft Horizons’ prices to be outrageous. Sure, there are some luxury options that will put a small dent in your wallet, but there are certainly enough lower– and middle-​tier options that are of a high quality. There are often sales on stuff laid out on the front porch and baskets of discounted-​rate yarn throughout the store. I’ve gotten some great deals on things I wouldn’t have otherwise dreamed of purchasing.
I took a 1-​hour knitting lesson once, with Nan. She was terse, though with a good sense of humor. She had non-​condescending answers to all my questions and was quite patient.
I’ve yet to experience service-​with-​a-​shining-​smile in the store itself. Typically employees are polite and conversational without being overbearing. I don’t ask any more of them — I’m always greeted when I go in, asked if I need any help, and chatted up at the register about what I’m making. My only complaint is that they do not consistently ask if I’d like my yarn wound, and that when I do request it they show slight annoyance.

I’m between 3 and 4 starts. I’ve had some really good experiences here. The staff are really nice and always friendly and willing to help me. However, I extremely dislike the owner. She always gives off this rude, snobby vibe and uses a condescending tone when talking to me. For someone who has spent a lot of money at her store (and even just, you know, as a human), I feel like that is uncalled for.
Their selection is pretty limited, and for awhile they hadn’t restocked their madelinetosh, so the things that I was willing to buy there were REALLY limited. They have a lot of novelty yarns (ribbon, fur, etc.) that I would never buy, but other people might find interesting. They have a good selection of needles and sets, and handmade accessories from Lantern Moon.
My last beef with them: their winding policy. I get that it’s not cool to bring in yarn that they sell and ask them to wind it when I bought it from somewhere else. I haven’t done that, but I buy a fair amount of yarn online or I get them in the mail from various clubs I’m a part of and needed it wound. Even when it wasn’t a yarn they offered in their shop, they would charge me $ 4/​skein to wind it, and they wouldn’t even give me the option of using their winder and doing it myself… I HAD to pay. At my height of getting yarn wound there from other places, some of the employees started to recognize me and give me a break ($ 1-​$ 2/​skein) but I stopped when I went to The Knit Shop for the first time and they told me I could always bring in stuff for free as long as I did it myself (which I don’t have a problem with). Needless to say, Soft Horizons inspired me to buy my own winder and swift so I don’t have to go there again, expect for the odd skein or two.

This was my first local yarn store (LYS) and I still treasure it. The shop is on the first floor of a beautiful old house with a gorgeous garden — a lovely setting. On the inside, things are a little cramped and it takes some time to figure out which room has what. Thus, it can be really easy to miss that one, special skein that you’re looking for, since things are pretty packed!
What really made this store for me, however, is how they treated me. I started coming here when I was 16 or 17. Generally, LYS workers can be somewhat condescending to younger knitters. However, I never was spoken down to and eventually became acquainted with one of the workers. And, hey, their awesome porch sales don’t hurt — especially for a 17 year old’s yarn budget!

Several rooms filled floor to ceiling with yarn. Leans heavily toward novelty yarn. Difficult to maneuver in this store because of all the stock. Staff cordial but not very helpful.

I’ve found things here I needed, but the shop feels cluttered to me, and I’ve gotten inconsistent service. Sometimes friendly and helpful, other times disinterested and snobby. I think there prices are higher then other shops as well.

I just learned how to knit about a month ago. Walking into Soft Horizons is like a wonderland. The selection is fantastic. As a newbie to knitting it could have been a bit intimidating but the two staff members where friendly and extremely helpful. Definitely going back!

I am an avid knitter (25 yrs.) and new to the Eugene area. I was at a loss for a good yarn store. I’d been to two yarn shops in the area and they were okay. I was ready to drive 3 hours south to Ashland. Then, my daughter discovered this on a google search. I am so happy. There’s a great selection of specialty yarns. (I felt like a kid in a candy store) and they have a great selection of easy care yarn for the kid’s cardi or blanket. The staff, that I dealt with, were friendly and knowledgeable. So many times you can find a great yarn shop, but the staff are so miserable. I feel that I’ve met some kindred spirits. This place is now my go-​to place and would recommend it to anyone who is a knitter or crocheter.

This might be my most favorite yarn shop ever. I stopped by while traveling through Oregon, and it’s jam packed with a wide selection of yarns and accessories. The staff person who helped me was very nice and knowledgeable. The shop is in an old Victorian house with a lovely garden in the front.

Soft Horizons is by far the best of the Eugene local yarn shops, and somewhere I definitely look forward to visiting whenever I come home. The staff is so helpful and full of great inspiration. Gorgeous selection of yarn, and prices are reasonable. Street parking is generally always easy to find. Hope to see you soon, Soft Horizons!

Husband and I stopped here on our way to Grants Pass the other day, because you know, I’d been here once before and just loved it. That’s reason enough, right? Besides, it’s a fantastic store with an amazing selection of yarns and knitting/​crocheting supplies.
I wish I’d had more time to be able to see every single thing! But we still had a long ways to go, so couldn’t linger. But I went into the sale room and found a couple of skeins of yarn for a friend who kept our dog for us while we were gone. Then I found some notions that I needed, as well as an amazing pair of earrings that were made out of thread. In addition, since Husband lost (horrors!) the first hat I ever made for him, in my incredible generosity and goodwill, I let him pick out a skein of yarn for another one. He’s a good guy… I forgive him for the first loss. Which better be the last, by the way.
We were in the store less than an hour, but as always, it was a great stop. All the employees were so friendly and helpful, and I love how the knitters perusing the yarn love to talk about what they’re getting and what they’re going to make with it.
Since it’s winter there was nothing blooming outside the gardens were bare, but the wraparound porch was decorated in fun winter things.
I love this shop! I wish Eugene weren’t so far away, but I do know that anytime I’m in the area, I will be back.

I am by no means an experienced knitter, but I have done some and I came here with a specific project in mind. They helped me find something to knit for my friend’s baby that I would be able to handle. They then pointed me towards the appropriate yarns and helped me figure out how much I needed.
All they while, they (the owner, I presume, and one of her employees) were very pleasant and offered to help me if I ran into trouble. Plus, the place is beautiful as it is set up in an old victorian home. The prices may be higher than one would like, but I don’t really expect anything less from a physical store and such a nice one at that. You want cheap yarn, head online and find some good sales.

This is a great yarn shop. They have a huge selection of both standard yarns and more exotic things (like buffalo!)
There were tons of folks working here on a Friday afternoon all very helpful and friendly. I heard a few people come in to ask for help on projects, and the employees leaped (lept?leapt?) up to give advice and suggestions.
They had lots of things on sale, but not big percentages off so the sales were not that impressive. The prices here are slightly higher than what you find in Portland or SF (for example) but maybe they are standard for Eugene.
They sell mill ends here for a few different yarns (lamb’s pride wool and a cotton fleece by the same folks). That is kinda fun. I bought some of those and they helped me calculate how many yarns I was getting. Very helpful.

My biggest complaint — its small inside and hard to maneuver on a busy weekend.
But other than that, this is the place to get all of your supplies for your fiber arts. Lovely varieties of yarn, lots of different tools, and tons of books.
I do wish they had more of a pattern selection available outside of their books, but I can live.
The ladies that work there are always super helpful and willing to take time to show you how to do anything or fix anything. Especially the lovely ladies that work there on the weekends.
This is by far the best yarn shop in town.

Eugene is my hometown, and even though I’ve only been away for a couple of years, I didn’t knit when I lived here. That’s unfortunate for me.
When I went home for a wedding I decided to stop in and get some yarn for projects that I had planned to work on. Because there’s no sales tax in Oregon, I figured I could save at least $ 10 by not having to pay Cook County sales tax.
The shop is one of the beautiful victorian homes that are still around the downtown area. Parking isn’t too bad around here either; there’s a few spots on one side of the house, and the other side has street parking.
Entering the house, almost every room has goodies for fiber crafters. There’s an entire room (once a bedroom, I’m assuming) that’s full of baby yarn; a room full of notions, as well as a large table and lots of yarn; another room with a great big table for knitters to join together, chat and knit (with lots of yarn on all the walls), and a room full of books and patterns. The main room of the shop also has yarn, notions and other goodies. Still thinking about it, I’m astonished at the size and amount of stuff in this store; I don’t know if I’ve ever been in such a large — or more beautiful — shop.
The staff is really nice as well. When I was checking out, I mentioned how I was home visiting from Chicago, and the girl that was ringing me up said, «I recognize you! You’re on Ravelry!» (For the uninitiated, Ravelry is a website for knitters & crocheters; I was really taken aback that she would recognize me from a group on there that I have rarely made any comments in.)
The other thing that makes this shop so great is, oddly enough, the outside. Visiting the shop, one might wonder if it is a garden shop or something. The landscaping is unbelievable; there are plants everywhere — planted near the house and the curb, hanging on the patio; I’ll try to upload some of the photos I took.
The only thing I’m disappointed about is that I did not do any fiber crafting while there. One thing is for sure — on future visits home, I’ll be taking a moment to decide if I’m going to work on any projects. I’m glad to know I’ll have a great yarn shop once I move back home.

I lived across the street from this cute Victorian yarn extravaganza. They have a good selection of yarns in all sorts of textures.
I found this really great Japanese yarn there, dyed all kinds of crazy colors. It’s worth a look if you want something unique. Also, the women who work here really know their stuff and are very helpful.

Definitely a place to spend hours touching soft yarns and dreaming of projects.
Helpful staff (I have taken in a project that I was stuck on and they helped) and the prices are comparable for a quality yarn store.
Always look in the baskets on the floor, lots o good bargains there!
