Toshi Ramen was disappointing. If you’re familiar with stellar spots like Ramen Tatsu-ya in Austin or High Five Ramen in Chicago, skip this place. The food just wasn’t good. Mostly clueless on this shops high rating.

They are so incredibly organized and enthusiastic. They are experts at knowing what their regulars like to eat. The food is outstanding. Don’t hesitate if you see a line. So many people get take out. I also appreciate their take out containers being reusable.

Visiting Eugene, we Unilocaled and found this little gem. Plenty of off street parking was nice. You order from the counter, with easy to figure out combinations of ingredients. Three broth choices should please everyone. Gyoza was yummy too. The place was busy, but the staff handles it well. As the sign says, «It’s not fast food, it’s fresh food!» Reasonable prices are around $ 8 for the ramen. Give this place a try!

Delicious ramen– the butter, seaweed and veggie miso base were the bomb! Service was excellent as well!

As if this place needs even more awesome reviews, here I am adding another one. The service, atmosphere and food were all excellent. My sister and I came in and were helped by Devan, one of the nicest and coolest guys– he was also really helpful with our order. The ramen is exceptional I had the shoyu broth and the nin-ninku ramen and my sister had the miso with the butter ramen. The noodles were definitely homemade and it was perfectly seasoned and the right amount of spice. I haven’t had soup this good in… I don’t think ever, honestly. I’m sooo happy I’ve discovered this place! Toshi whatever you’re doing keep doing it, this place is amazing!!!

Stopped by today it’s been about 7 years since I lived near Eugene and would frequent Toshi’s ramen this place was so good and really kept me going on the cold days here in Oregon. When my work booked me for a business trip to Oregon I was pretty excited to have the opportunity to come back to Toshi’s, since then I have had amazing ramen from shinsengumi in Orange County. In comparison it’s very different, however Toshi’s ramen is still just as tasty as I remember and gives you that good warm soul soothing feel inside.

Disclaimer: I just joined Unilocal, and am catching up on my reviews! The last time I ate here was in 2013, I think I dunno… I think this place got it’s rep for being a «good ramen restaurant in EUGENE»… So yes, compared to what’s available in town, sure, it could be seen as amazing. But otherwise it was decent, I would eat a bowl of ramen again, but I would not go out of my way to come here again for the food at least. The staff were fine and friendly enough.

Very thing just excellent(service, food). This is the best ramen I ever had in America. Take order from the front desk. Staff are friendly and fast, especially diven talk with him make your sunshine day. You got 3 kinds of broth choices for ramen. Then pick any style noodle which showed on a board. Shoyu is the one I always have, just GOOD. They still have stir fry which stir fry mix vegetable, have it go over on noodle. The secret menu. If u are a noodle lover just come over and try. You will love here. BUTREMEMBERBUSYOUROWNTABLEAFTERTHEMEAL TRYTOREADCAREFULLYTHATTHEYUSEMSGBUTYOUCANASKWITHOUTITWHENYOUOREDER. Don’t bother them cause your problem. They are working hard. You know, I had high hopes for you. I was hoping you would satiate my craving for some kick ass ramen. We drove from Central Oregon in hopes that you would make us not miss our SoCal Ramen joints. I even worked so hard to convince my boyfriend to take a trip with me to the valley; but, alas, we were disappointed. $ 12.75 for a bowl of chashu ramen with no ajitsuke tamago, no naruto, overcooked noodles, bland chashu and broth. We drove home a feeling bit robbed, irritated and well. wanting a legit bowl of ramen. I even looked and cried over photos of my favorite ramen spots in LA/OC before writing this review. Maybe your plates are better, maybe you make kick ass gyoza but we didn’t come here for gyoza. You’re Toshi’s Ramen not Toshi’s Gyoza! I should’ve read the low ratings first. Tsk. Til I find me my legit bowl of ramen in Oregon, I’m gonna have to make em at home myself. and no, not with Top Ramen and yes, with tamago and a bit of furikake!

Toshi’s Ramen makes good ramen. prices are GOOD for ramen, perhaps it’s because it’s eugene. You can get a ramen bowl here for $ 7⁄8. that’s unheard of since ramen went hipster. the bowls are good sized, the noodles are nice, ingredients focus around bamboo, and corn. oddly, they don’t offer an egg with the soup at all.

I always enjoy eating here! I was a bit skeptical the first time we tried it, given I’ve eaten cheap, packaged ramen from the store. Toshi’s has fresh made ramen, with three different soup bases and a variety of ingredients. It is always delicious. I’ve made substitutions before and the staff is always good about it. They never act like it’s an inconvenience, and it’s always correctly made when the food arrives. Obviously, they have a great attention to detail. The restaurant is incredibly small and can feel cramped at times when they are busy. It’s not good for a large group. You bus your own table and get your own water or soda. But the food is brought to your table. The prices are more than reasonable and portions quite large. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. It’s a place my family has been going to for several years and will keep returning to for years to come.

I really enjoyed coming here. We came during lunch time and it was very very busy but luckily we were able to snag the last table. It was our first time at Toshi’s and even though this was our first time at Toshi’s the server took a ton of time explaining the menu to us. I usually don’t post names on Unilocal but this server deserves a shout out, his name was Devin and the entire time he was there I could here him enthusiastically explaining the menu while taking orders and cleaning the place, he really enhanced our experience. It was also cool that Toshi was cooking when we were there. I also appreciate that they do one thing and that they do it well. I always have this stress when I go somewhere and I have to pray that I pick the right thing off the menu, here it is very straightforward. A tip, order the miso broth, it’s got more flavor and richness than the shio broth. A second tip, the spiciness scale is very mild, order a spiciness level greater than what you want. Reasons I’m not giving it five stars, 1) they forgot to take out the pork of my gf vegetarian dish, that being said they were very apologetic and had the correct order out to us within 30 seconds and 2) the ramen was good but not the best I’ve ever had. It is very reasonably priced. I would definitely go here again but it is not a must visit when in Eugene.

Basically, an food establishment where everything is perfect. The service is friendly and loving. Meaning they love the food they make and are super proud. All sorts of seating. The bowls are perfect and ample. The Ramen is slightly curly and fresh made. I like getting extra pork slices as nowhere have I had such a juicy slice. There are three types of soup bases on a matrix like menu. Subtle differences. Make room for the best Gyoza. Crispy on one side and melts in your mouth on the other.

We were really led astray by this place’s stellar rating. Really popular with students and families on a Saturday nite after the UO game. You have to hover and wait to snag a table, since they were so busy, but we were able to get seats inside where it was warm before the food came out. Would have been better off going somewhere else — what we ate was essentially«cup of noodles on steroids» per my husband, but dare I say. worse than that. The miso and shoyu broths were pretty devoid of umami flavor, despite representing(in theory) the essence of that savory taste. I did like the gyoza, they were fried crispy. Staff were super friendly, and clearly working very hard to clean up tables in between customers and get the food out promptly. Will take/read all future Eugene Unilocal reviews w/a grain of salt. #overrated

Why is this place so highly rated? I’m going to join the out-of-town chorus and rant n’ rave that I’m truly baffled. Perhaps I’m biased since I’ve had so much tasty ramen in my life, but perhaps the bigger problem is that people don’t know they can have so much better. I got the shoyu butter, boyfriend got the miso butter. Even with the butter, the shoyu was pretty bland. And while I didn’t expect it to be creamy and rich like a tonkatsu broth, I didn’t expect practically a light chicken broth with dashes of shoyu either. There was only one piece of lean, sliced pork along with 2 green beans, canned & untreated bamboo shoots, and seemingly canned corn. Both really odd and really bland ramen additions/toppings, especially when you consider the hunks of fatty, marinated pork belly and beautiful soft boiled eggs I’ve been treated to. This was a massive disappointment in our stop. They don’t appear to offer soft boiled eggs or extra meat options? Ramen… without soft boiled eggs? Sigh… I was able to doctor my ramen up enough with the available chili oil, rice vinegar and interestingly enough — chili powder, instead of Togarashi(just like dad used to do to my instant ramen as a kid). But my boyfriend couldn’t gather his wits to complete his ramen, rarely a man that leaves a drop of food behind. It tasted bland and the miso tasted odd, it’s hard to explain. We won’t be going back in future Eugene visits, and I’m confused why Eugene folks keep going back. I hope they richen up their broths and elevate their toppings, otherwise people need to get out of town for a good bowl of noodles(and ASAP!)

Updated Review — 3.5STARS: After several years, I returned to Toshis to see if it still lived up to my 5 star memory. Unfortunately, my palette has changed from tasting ramen throughout Japan and the US, and this time seemed a bit different: Pros: * It’s still the only ramen restaurant in town * They hand-make their noodles and gyoza * Generous portion of noodles * Friendly staff * Very affordable(average bowl is $ 6 – 8, versus Portland where generally run $ 11 – 13) Opportunities for improvement: — I prefer my noodles a little chewier & al dente than what I tasted this time around — The shoyu and miso broths I tasted seemed a little lacking in both the richness and depth that I’ve come to love in other bowls — the pork slices were really lean; although healthier, they weren’t the most tender — the char-sui was temporarily unavailable Despite the concerns, t’s still a solid 3 star experience, and I really hope they continue to take feedback improve things bit by bit to really make it a must-go place when visiting the city.

I got the garlic butter corn miso ramen and the broth was really good and the noodles were fresh but nothing very special. Garlic over powered everything on my tongue so next time I won’t get add it. Would come back to try their other types of broth.

I loved coming here for years and today’s visit may be the breaking point… I came in and for the first time in a long time, there wasn’t too many people there and there wasn’t a long line. I was excited to eat some good ramen, but that wasn’t the case. I waited almost 45 minutes while countless people who ordered after me received their orders. The only reason why I finally got mine was because I kept staring at others who were getting theirs and the girl at the register finally saw me. To make it worse, when I got home, my order wasn’t even right… I had ordered a miso butter corn and a shoyu wakame, but received 2 miso original… but I guess that was my fault for not checking. However, the catastrophe doesn’t end there… the ramen was horrible. The noodles were soggy from sitting in the soup too long and the broth was lukewarm. Needless to say, I won’t be going back for awhile…

I was seriously skeptical when Toshi’s came in. I was in college, so the idea of paying for ramen was more than ironic. At the time, the plasticky, pre-packaged, boil-and-serve noodles was a huge part of our diets. I considered myself quite the ramen Ninja, so no– PAYING someone to make me ramen? Ridiculous. How wrong I was. How very, very wrong. You see, that stuff in packages that says ramen? Not ramen. Well, maybe it IS ramen, but once you have Toshi’s there’s just no comparison. It’s the difference between«sushi» you pick up in a plastic container at the gas station, and sushi you’d find locally, made by hand. Technically it’s the same food, but oh what a difference! Toshi’s has three different broths to choose from. A miso base, a shoyu base, and a shio base. You can choose vegetarian miso base(if you swing that way), too. My favorite is the shoyu, very rich and flavorful. I could subsist on the broth alone for days, it is that amazing! Next up, you can choose ingredients. Corn, green beans, green onions, bean sprouts, garlic, and slices of pork. The pork is usually a bit toothsome, but a good size– about the size of your palm and sliced ¼″ thick. The ramen noodles are, I believe, made fresh. They do not come in little bricks, but are boiled fresh. Soup takes about 20 minutes to make after ordered. Toshi’s also features teriyaki chicken, served with a spicy cucumber salad. Potstickers are also available, but the star truly is the ramen soup! Customer service is good. It’s one of those places where you order at the counter and bus your own table, but staff delivers food straight to your table. They really need to expand– it is always packed whenever I’ve gone in for lunch or dinner! Outdoor seating is available and worthwhile in the warmer months. The interior is simple but elegant, a great place for dates, but very difficult to take the family in for a meal as tables are small and space is at a premium.
