Vivian Olum Child Development Center

In response to Sady Rs comment Catherine NEVER abused children, and she has been retired more then a year! She is highly educated and was one of the best Pre-​k teachers in Eugene. The Center has had a scary turn over in staff sense the new director (her name is Amy) and I would be way more considered about that then a staff that has been retired for over a year.

I just moved back to Eugene after 17 years and was looking for child care for my 4 year son. I was surprised to see Vivian Olum listed under drop off care because I was pretty sure they aren’t drop off. I checked and they are a regular preschool, not drop in. I also checked in with the school and was assured Catherine, the teacher mentioned in a previous review is no longer a teacher at Vivian Olum. I substitute taught at this school many years ago and thought it was a great school.

In Response to Sandy R’s comment i worked with Catherine and Deb for 4 years and i would recommend anyone to come to their class. some student who work with her don’t get along with her because Catherine has high expectation for her helpers and the kids in her class which results in them being prepared for k-​1 st grade when they go. She has many years of experience and knows what she is doing. she is rough around the edges but is one of the best teachers at Olum. I completely disagree with you Sandy, and your review is invalid. Many student want to exercise their power when catherine and them dont get along and complaining on help is one of them. Vivivan olum is a great place, and i would recommend taking ym children there, so please disregard this false review from Sandy because I am sure if you went in yourself and didnt rely on a college students impulse review you would agree as well.

I’m updating this because we’re withdrawing our kids for this upcoming year in favor of another establishment that will be a better fit. Dropping from a 3 to a two star. The lead teacher in the baby room either quit or was fired and for the past month we’ve been paying them the big bucks for two college students to babysit them. I sent the director some of our concerns and we never heard a word back from anyone to address them. To top it all off, they are keeping the money that they collected from us earmarked for «insurance and materials» for the upcoming year– $ 150. Ugh, a million reasons we’ve had it with this place. Steer clear of Vivian Olum if you have any other options.
