If you are looking for authentic Turkish food, Shishkabob house will leave you disappointed. Id say Zoe’s Kitchen would’ve been better. My wife agrees and she’s half Persian and also spent significant time abroad in Turkey. We ordered a «tzaziki» appetizer but it’s really just grocery store yogurt(not even Greek style yogurt) with dry mint inside. A generous portion is served with one stingy piece of pita bread. The bread is not homemade or authentic. They charge you an extra .99 cents for an extra piece which we ordered upon first glance. We ordered the Sultan kabob and the lamb kabob. The sultan kabob was wrapped in that same bread. The lamb kabob was laid atop 2 pieces of more of that generic bread. The meat was flavored nicely but a little overdone. The rice tasted somewhat instant and lacked any sort of flavor. The flavor of the meat made our meal there bearable. Save your time, save your money if your want real authentic Turkish food. Or just get a lamb kabob wrap to go.

Nice little place off of Belair Road. Tucked behind the PDQ restaurant. Has a nice ethnic vibe with a corner with cushions for a more authentic turkish/arabic experience. The night I stopped they were out of hummus. Order the tzatziki instead; good flavor and a hearty portion. The owner and waitress were friendly. My dish was a ground lamb and beef kabob wrapped in pita. The meat was dry but had a good mild spiciness. Served with rice and a small cabbage based sald. Not a bad experience but not the best Turkish food I have had. May try them again and select another dish. 3.25 stars for now.

Great Food and a lot of it! Family really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I had the Troy Mixed Kebab, my wife had the Alexander and my son the Kids Kebab with Fries. We went for Dinner on a Saturday night. Everything was fresh and we even got to talk with the Owner. Had a wonderful conversation about Turkey and Germany.(Wife is German, and he spoke it very fluent!) This is one place we will visit at least once or twice a month! If your hungry, go here. You will not be disappointed.

Got take from there. Food was ok, but not amazing. Service on the slower side. I will likely take my cravings for middle Eastern food elsewhere.

The staff and the food were great. It’s a lil pricey but u also get a big plate. The waitress was very friendly and made sure we got everything that we needed at all times. If u get the chance I definitely recommend going there.

I had high hopes for this place. I loved the cushions on the floor with traditional seating and décor. It should have been a sign to us we were the only customers in the restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday. We ordered hummus and it was bland. No spices no garlic nothing. Bland. Our meals were also bland with none of the traditional spices on the shish kebob. The rice was just plain no flavor. The tzatziki was not what I am used to. The flavor was overwhelming and off. Not sure what herb was in there but it was strange. The staff were very nice and attentive. The food needs some help and it would be a great establishment.

Great food in a very casual easy-going place. My wife had the lamb shish kebab and said it was the best lamb she’d ever had. I had the Troy the Mixed Kebab. While mine was $ 20 it was a LOT of food. No part of either of our meals was lacking — succulent meat, perfect rice, and soft, warm pita. Yep, I’ll definitely be back.

The humus appetizer was very bland, but the main meal was very good, as well as the Baklava. Our waitress provided good service, but she seemed miserable as if she wished to be anywhere but her job. Food portions are humongous; but, not in a good way. I would recommend ordering one plate for every two people. If you order a meal for yourself, you can try to take food home and re-heat, but it does not hold up well. Essentially, you wind up wasting food and money. They also charge you extra for everything. If you want more flatbread, expect to pay for it. If you want more of the yogurt sauce that comes in a small 1oz container for your 1lb gyro, expect to pay for that too. Refrills are free up to a certain number. I enjoyed my food for this one experience, but I won’t be returning for a second time.

I’m a longtime member of the Clean Plate Club but even I couldn’t finish my donor platter. SOMUCH food. And so good, too. Like melt in your mouth good. They also had Turkish CNN on which was fun to watch.

I enjoyed the atmosphere. There was a little section with pillows and cushions on the floor with low tables that was nice. I had lamb kebab and it was very good, well cooked and well seasoned. I’d definitely eat here again if I’m ever back in Augusta.

Have been there several times including just to grab takeout. Food is great everytime and the people are friendly. Sit on the floor pillows, it’s fun and kids love it.

The owner is awesome and super friendly. I believe he’s both the owner and chef. My fiancé likes the hamus a lot, but it’s a little bit plain for me. The pita bread is delicious, I had to get an extra. My fiancé got the plate with every kind of meat, I forgot the name, but it was $ 20. The meats are tender and well spiced. The salad that comes with the meal gives a refreshing note, so the meal doesn’t seem too heavy and meaty. They also have a traditional Turkish seating area which looks super interesting and relaxing. I would definitely go back to try their Turkish coffee and baklava. I gave four stars because the service was a little slow.

Absolutely recommend the experience. Family friendly atmosphere with great belly dance entertainment on the weekends. Excellent baba ganoush and the Turkish coffee is crazy good.

I used to live in Turkey and this is definitely as close as you can get to authentic food in the states. I like the restaurant and it’s atmosphere… but I will not be back on nights when they have a belly dancer. It just wasn’t something I wanted to see(while I want to be honest, I don’t want to be mean so I won’t elaborate on what I mean by that) and she fully expects people to give her tips as she dances around the restaurant(the whole thing had a very degrading, strip club type feel to it and the nasty old men next to us making derogatory comments about her while waving money are her didn’t help). Bottom line: Completely worth your time during non-belly dancing hours.

I love eating at Shishkebab! The food is excellent and I haven’t had a bad experience yet. I highly recommend the Turkish coffee. Like another poster said, it’s like liquid crack. If you’re worried if this place is family friendly, don’t be. I’ve been to the restaurant when they’ve had dancers and when they haven’t. It’s comfortable and a great time for everyone when the dancer is present. They are really good about getting the kids to try fan dancing or playing the tambourine. I also never felt pressured to give a tip. Maybe it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s great. I’ve eaten here numerous times since shortly after they have opened. It’s awesome Every. Single. Time. 10⁄10

The food is good. Try the doner kebab! The lamb kekab is also tasty. This is one of the few halal meat places in the Aiken Augusta area. The restaurant almost has a diner feel. Grill in the back. You see all the cooks making the food. The servers are pretty quick in serving you. There is a lot of things on the menu. So choose wisely! I had the lamb kebab with rice. The rice was good and I liked the flavor. I wasn’t a fan of the salad that came with it– just not to my taste. Lamb was good. My friend got the doner kebab. I think I should’ve gotten that… The place has regular table top seats and traditional seating with cushions and such on the floor. The walls all had Turkish paintings or artifacts. It was nicely decorated. I would come here again if in the area…

We had the #26. It’s enough for 2 people and had a great variety of chicken, lamb, and beef kabobs. They were delicious! Seasoned very well and tender. It was served with rice, pita bread, and a mix of lettuce, cabbage, & onion. Real crisp & fresh with a sort of vinegar dressing. It was so refreshing to have something different in this area. The service was exceptional as well! Very quick and polite staff. The owner also came out and greeted us which is always a pleasant surprise when dining out locally. I will definitely be back!!! Oh… We came on a Saturday night but there is belly dancing on Friday nights.

twice bitten, never eaten. t Two times now we have tried to go here around 9 on a Saturday night and both times were not able to. This latest was because they were having a special occasion and closed down early. I would have understood if when I called(and only got a generic message)(just a repeat of the number called nothing else) I had been informed of the change in hours. I mean, a party is a party. But to be told at the door«oh no, we just closed because of this party but you can get a to-go order» was annoying and not really part of a good night out on the town. I would have even been satisfied had there been a hand written sign at the door or the hours posted sign had been turned off. The fact that two times we’ve tried eating here only to be turned away tells me they don’t want community support. That’s fine, Tackosushi is right up the street.

Oh wow, this is genuinely a «WOOHOO» kind of place when it comes to gyros and baklava. I’ve had a terrible hankering for gyros, lamb of any sort and rice but the other place in town(with a 5 star rating) let me down so much I shied away from the competition. I’m so happy we spun the roulette wheel and ended up with Shishkebab otherwise I may have never discovered this place at all. The owner was really lovely, honest and forthcoming with how tough business could be at times. He took a lot of pride in describing the food, making recommendations and damn near gloated about how terrific his baklava. And he was darn right about the baklava. It’s the best I’ve ever had in about 20 years! We ordered two doner plates and they couldn’t be more authentic. There’s a spit in the kitchen where you can see your meat twirling and sizzling, filling the restaurant with that delicious smell. I could tell by the delicious curl of the meat that this place was legit. The tzatziki sauce here tastes so light and fresh but I wish the hot sauce was hotter. The portions were huge, the pickled cabbage salad was right on par with what I’m familiar with and the baklava rounded out a terrific meal. Oh my gosh, the baklava. The layer of nuts had just enough honey to make it stick to the many layers of filo dough underneath. There wasn’t too much honey or too little and the pistachio rounded it all out perfectly. It wasn’t too difficult to chew, wonderfully buttery and gone in 4 bites. Yum, yum, yummy all around 33⁄2014
