I have been a customer off and on for 30 years. I’ve bought new and used equipment. I’ve been in many stereo stores. I never found any others with the range of top quality produces in each price range from moderate to extreme, with the integrity, and the customer service that I’ve always received at Audio Consultants. They have a real service department with real people in it. If a repair needs to go to the manufacturer they will often lend a product for the customer to use until theirs comes back. Several friends have bought equipment at Audio Consultants after asking my advice on where to shop. Their comments are all positives. Audio Consultants does not have a product of the month. They have been carrying some brands for 35 years and are even the first stores in the country to carry some of the most established brands in the market. That said they are not ludites either… they have the new technologies… whole house computer based operating systems etc. Yes they are as good as it gets. Peter H.

I purchased stereo components there on two occasions. Simon helped me, and he is an expert as well as a very nice person and seller. There was no time pressure or pressure to buy the more expensive pieces, just useful information given and pleasant conversation. Not to mention they carry terrific equipment. I did not check or argue about prices but found out later they were very reasonable as well.

I’ve shopped occasionally — although regularly — at the Evanston store since the early 1980s. Have bought a number of used pieces from them, which always worked perfectly. Over the years, the staff has offered genuinely kind and expert advise, which has served to help me as a listener. My favorite story, though, is from a few years ago. I was feeling unhappy with my system, my speakers in particular. In the store, I found a pair of expensive speakers, used but in great shape. Wanted to get some advice, so I decided to speak with one of the staff members, can’t remember his name but he’s French and had been there forever. He asked what I had and I told him(a pair of B&W speakers purchased 20 years before, and not from them — long story). He thought about it and said«those are excellent speakers, I wouldn’t replace them». Advised me to look at other elements in my system. I followed his advice and ended up making a far more modest investment(new integrated amplifier) which completely solved the problem. Great stuff and real integrity. Although I live in NYC now, I recommend them to friends all the time and always stop by when I’m in town.

Audio Consultants is the best place to buy audio systems in Chicagoland. I bought a system from them 15 years ago and loved it. Had a few very minor issues with that system over the years and they repaired at no charge. Recently had them outfit our entire house. They are super-knowledgeable, and pricing is good(by comparison to Abt). Worth buying here for their knowledge and because they stand behind their products. Only downside is if, like me, you don’t really know audio stuff but just want great sound — they can seem a little pretentious. But I highly recommend them.

Possible the worst experience I’ve with an audio installer. They charged an astronomical amount for very little work and in the end my setup still doesn’t preform like it is suppose to. Now I have to find a new installer to come back and fix what these guys messed up.

We haven’t purchased from them YET, but plan to when we do our home renovation. We appreciated our salesman’s help and knowledge. They have a good selection at a variety of price ranges, and were able to let us here the sound system. I’d definitely recommend going there if you’re looking for sound system experts.

This place is a hidden gem for audio enthusiasts! They have new and quality used speakers, stereo systems, home theater systems and unique top brand inventory. It’s not exactly stylish inside, in fact the interior probably hasn’t been touched or updated much since the early 80’s. Don’t let it deter you though! The service is great, they don’t pressure you at all to buy anything, the staff is passionate and knowledgeable about their products. They also provide repair services should you need it.

It’s called Audio Consultants, and«consult» they do. I was recently advised against buying one of those compatible DVD/VCR players. Needless to say, this place doesn’t have the regal feel olf Best Buy(LOL) but it’s sufficient.
