Whenever I order from here I always feel bad I didn’t pay more. This is serious fried chicken done seriously. It’s just the best. Puts all that hoighty toighty hipster fried chicken to shame.

There is hype about Korean style fried chicken these days and I love them. But chicken shack does it way better.

I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Chicken Shack. I had just moved to Evanston, I had no friends or furniture, and all I wanted was a cheap, simple, and satisfying dinner. Boy, did Chicken Shack ever come through for me. I called ahead and picked up 10 Chipotle BBQ boneless wings. They weren’t quite ready when I got there(the Shack is optimistic about prep time), but I was in and out of the old-school, no-frills establishment within 10 minutes. I returned home, took my first bite, and… instant nirvana. The chicken was perfectly cooked — tender, juicy, and dripping with sweet and spicy goodness. I promptly sank to the floor of my bare apartment and devoured the rest. Needless to say, I’ve been a fan ever since. For one day, Chicken Shack was literally my best friend in Evanston. If you need a quick and satisfying meal or a last-minute party dish, it can be your best friend too.

Get the large order of chicken bits and mix the hot and bbq sauce, it will change your life.

I picked up at order over the weekend for a 24 piece mixed bucket of chicken and it was over $ 40. I say that is pretty expensive chicken. It was good but I’m not sure it is that much better than Brown’s or Popeye’s which is far less for 24 pieces. the service is also lacking as I read in a few reviews so giving it 2 stars for the service and 4 stars for the chicken thereby averaging a 3 star review.

5 stars for the absolutely delicious food! The chicken is cooked perfectly, the biscuits are moist, and the sides of mashed potatoes, cheese fries, red beans and rice, and the coleslaw all compliment the chicken perfectly. The only thing that really had me almost giving a 3 star review, is the service. In face I would go as far as to say that the service is barely 2 stars. I’m all for giving a person the benefit of the doubt, the service industry can be super tough, but when you order from a place several times, and the person has an attitude each and every time, you tend to stop blaming it on them possibly having a bad day, and blame it on their poor quality service and perpetual bad attitude. I have been cut off while placing my order all 3 times I have ordered, and barked at when it took me barely an extra second to make a decision on my order. Do not work in a field that requires you to interact with people if you are so gosh darn bad at it, or just generally dislike serving others.

Just about what you might expect from a joint called Chicken Shack. It’s just that a kind of run down tacky place with crunchy yummy chicken. Good quality, fresh and hot. You don’t eat here, pick it up and take it out.

This restaurant is not cheap, not fast, crowded, and doesn’t have amazing service — however it does serve well prepared chicken that is probably the perfect food for late night college parties. The biscuits are relatively moist, not extremely flavorful but goes well with an ice cold beer and is probably a little on the lighter side to go with their extremely flavorful chicken. The wings here are delicious, deep fried with just the right amount of moisture. Messy, but much nicer than what you’ll find at most local bars. The fried chicken here is very similar to the better ones you’ll find in the city — well marinated, perfect mix of milk and extremely crisp batter with a good dose of seasoning but not very salty. Simple and delicious, definitely worth a visit if you’re in Evanston.

This place reminds me of «my poor college diet.» Why would you eat healthy when you could stuff your face up with fried chicken and fish? Obviously, it has been a long time since I graduated from college more than six(6) years ago. Daddy J. and I were coming back from the Chicago Botanic Garden. I recalled this place serving fried chicken and some other fried yumminess. We hopped on the purple line, heading north, and got off at Foster. Chicken Shack is a hole-in-the-wall place, with free parking. Primary businesses are take-outs and deliveries. However, there are two(2) small tables if you wanna dig in when food is hot and steamin’. I was too greedy and should have just ordered a combo. The one(1) breast and two(2) legs combo was enough for two(2) people. The combo came with white toast and a plenty of crinkled fries. We had a blast munching like it was our last meal! I tagged another catfish nugget combo without contemplating. I brought the leftover home for hubby. Therefore, dinner for(3) costs under $ 20, and we still have the remainder of the catfish nugget combo in the refrigerator. I thought this place wouldn’t accept debit or credit cards. Well, they do! I happened to have some meal cash with me. They sell pop cans straight from the vending machine. One can of pop(as of 09/23/2015) is $ 0.90. The ladies at the counter will be glad to make change with you since the machine doesn’t take bills.

I went here once because I had heard legends about it throughout my time at Northwestern. Most of them revolved around the idea that the Shack was selling more than just chicken. If they are selling something illicit, they are also sprinkling it into their fried chicken. ITISINCREDIBLE. That said, I devoured the meal deal that I ordered and returned to work. I spent the rest of the day fighting a food coma and a stomachache. I haven’t returned because I’m still trying to decide if the physical agony is worth experiencing again for that delicious chicken.

Just had to try one of the best fried chicken places in America and #1 on The Top 10 Fried Chicken Joints in Chicago by Thrillist… Service was quick! Just felt abit pricey though for fried chicken, but I have to say the Fried Chicken was pretty good! Gotta try their buffalo wings with sweet-heat sauce! The jamaican jerk sauce had the kick, but oddly had a salty taste…

Nice chicken!!! Really love it. One of the best I’ve even had. Will be better if they have spicy one, with chilly power.

I’ve been here a bunch of times, and the chicken has always been on point. After experimenting with the menu, I can confidently say the honey barbecue bits(popcorn chicken, bbq sauce, fries) have been my favorite. I got them with a side of ranch, and my taste buds were engulfed in a fiery pit of pure ecstasy for a solid 15 minutes. The portion/price ratio was also on point, because I was absurdly full when all was said and done. Keep it up homies

I went here about 7 years ago in 2008 for a trip to Chicago over the break. Was brought there by a friend living in Evanston. Recently I went here again when I was visiting Chicago. I think it’s the best fried chicken in the world! It was still as good as I remembered. I brought a few other friends here and they agree as well. They can’t forget about this place many years later. I’d recommend the dark meat dinner and the fried chicken wings. Add in some hot sauce. Yum! TIP: have it to go, unless you want to eat there and smell like fried chicken after you’re done with eating. The place has strong oil scent in the air. But it’s totally worth the visit. MUSTTRY!

I’m not sure how I missed this place for great fried chicken. I noticed a blurb on Thrillist page for the 21 best fried chicken in America and here enters Chicken Shack. Certainly reminds me of my grandma’s chicken. Also reminds me of Harold’s a bit, specially when you make a fresh fry/hot sauce sandwich out of the white bread, which adorns the meal. Two breast and two wings with fries is a great deal, easily made 2 meals out of it. Also picked up a couple biscuits and red beans and rice. Great lunch deals if you get in by 3 pm.

I’m a huge fan of fried chicken, and this place is a winner winner chicken dinner. Their two legs two thighs all-day special is definitely a winner. Their chicken is definitely savory and delicious, and their biscuits are good, too. I like how affordable they are. Definitely good if you want a cheap meal! It’s $ 10 minimum for credit card, so bring some cash and you’ll be having a winner winner chicken dinner too!

This place makes excellent fried chicken, hot and cooked to order. I tried some of the sauces on wings, and when this place says something is spicy you need to believe them! Both the spicy BBQ and the Jamaican Jerk we hot enough to make me perspire. There’s a kick to the gravy on the mashed potatoes, as well. In fact, of everything I tried I think the mashed potatoes were my favorites. Service was friendly. Because everything is cooked to order, it takes about 15 minutes, so if you’re in a hurry it’s best to call ahead.
