Terrific local hardware store run by neighborhood people who are terrifically knowledgeable, helpful and honest. They have just about everything one could possibly need, and even sell cleaning supplies, mulch and other things one might not expect them to sell. They are also great at helping you fix things inexpensively. In all the years I have been going here, they have never once tried to sell me something more expensive when a cheap fix would do the trick. Great place!

I go here every now and then for one kind of item(usually) — screws. Because in the back of the store is a room apparently devoted floor to ceiling solely to screws of every type and size imagineable. This’s no exaggeration nor hyperbole I assure you so if you must find a particular screw and only the right kind will do Harold’s T-V will have it and make your trip worthwhile. Other typical hardware items are quite well stocked here too.

Shop at Harold’s and experience old time service and what a hardware store used to be like many decades ago. I will not write a big review. The guys below did a fantastic job of expressing themselves and how amazing the store is. They do have everything you need. It is still a family run business and the neighborhood is wonderful. Pay the meter on the curb and enjoy yourself inside. I have been shopping here for many, many years.

A BIGTIMEHARDWARESTORE in a little bitty package. Evidence that big things can come in small packages… Don’t be fooled by the size of Harold’s. They are literally squeezed into the middle of a group of storefronts along Central Street in Evanston and have most anything that you could ever need and then some. Because this place isn’t like the big chain hardware stores in size, the isles are tight and narrow so they need to pack everything tightly where they can find it if you can’t. Tip: If you can find it then make sure that you ask a clerk because in my experience they always have what you need. ALWAYS. Experience: One day I needed a very large bolt(¾”-10×10″) for a project at work. I didn’t even think twice about going to Harold’s for the hard to find bolt. I didn’t see the bolt on the shelf so I asked the guy behind the counter for assistance. Of course they had one. Unlike those big chain hardware stores these guys know what they have. I can’t tell you how many times that I have gone to one of those chains and asked for something simple and it ends up being a learning experience for them because they have no idea of where the thing that I asked them is located. Since I still work in the area so I never think twice in sending my guys here for parts. I just wish that they were located closer to my home then I would be in here all the time. I am very happy to write this review because this place delivers the goods. The staff is truly knowledgeable about what they have and always friendly and helpful. So make sure that if you need anything for around the home or at work that you give these guys a call first. You will not be disappointed.

After dealing with a great deal of flooding in the basement, I — like virtually everyone around the city — started running around trying to find materials to clear out the encroaching water from our basement. I had already invested in three submersible pumps previously, but their power wasn’t enough to keep up with the volume of water seeping up through the basement floor. I ran to Home Depot and Lowe’s and both were very quick to sell me a sub pump with high horsepower(but also exceedingly slow to let me know that there were additional parts that were required to make it actually work effectively, and even slower to tell me that they were sold out of those parts). Ugh. As in ‘you gotta be ugh-ing kidding me!?’ Fortunately, Harold’s exists. I called to see if they had the part(which they did), I asked to see if they would hold it for me(which they did), and they I hustled over there to collect and pay. Not only we’re they helpful the way that only small businesses can be it seems, but they are smart, flexible and willing to make the experience as low-stress as possible for customers. And this isn’t the first time I’ve had this experience with them Sure, you may pay slightly more, but customer service can’t be overlooked these days. Moving forward, they are my first look for parts and tools. They have earned it.
