I’ve always had interest in trying this place and finally took the chance and came here to eat udon on one of the coldest days in April. I ended up ordering a bowl of udon and a salmon roll on the side. I walked into the restaurant and it took me a few minutes to realize that I had to fill in my order on the pieces of paper at the counter. I noticed several other people were slightly confused as well. It was super cold in the restaurant… I think they didn’t turn on the heater and it was below 30 degrees that day. Good thing I ordered an udon because that was the only warmth I had. The udon was decent and nothing too special. The salmon roll was fine too. I paid around $ 15 for my entire meal, which I guess is not too bad for Japanese food. They have lunch combos, which I think are the better deals, but udon wasn’t available on the lunch menu. Overall, I thought the whole experience and taste of the food was okay. Nothing special, and definitely not very cheap.

Best lunch special in Evanston! 12 pieces of maki + miso soup + salad under $ 10. And delicious. I especially appreciate how welcoming the owner woman is. Must check out.

If the woman at this place weren’t so nice to me, this review could be a one star. Summary: No. Go somewhere else. No matter how cute this place looked from the outside with its boat-shaped counter and glass windows, it’s not worth your money, at all. For $ 16, I got 6 salmon skin roll and 3 pieces of yellowtail. Salmon skin is the cheapest part(close to scraps) from salmon. And u still charge me that much? Yellowtail doesn’t look fresh at all and tasted alright. Sigh. Also, I’m pretty sure I saw them put part of my food in the microwave. Are you kidding me!!!

We often go to Dozika for sushi/asian fusion, cause it’s near us, but decided to try another place. Sashimi sashimi was quite good. We had chow udon noodles(vegetable) – nice, chewy udon, and crisp veggies. Also two rolls, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna(which was VERY spicy)…both good. Looked like they had a lovely saki list, but didn’t try this time. Service was amazingly fast. Prices not cheap, but ok value for the food. Interesting, modern décor. Glad we stopped in… will be back.

Good Sushi, good prices. We order a lot from here. It’s probably not the most inviting place to sit but we do takeaways. They have great selection of maki rolls. So far we’ve tried the Alaskan, Boston, California, Philadelphia, Sake, Salmon avocado, Spicy salmon, Spicy tuna, and Tekka rolls — all were terrific, and no, we didn’t try everything at once :) All rolls are priced between $ 4 – 6.50, making it a great deal. Highly recommended!

Especially the salmon and tuna, melt in your mouth! Service here is warm and kind. Like this place! By the way, you would like to taste their mixed fruit juice after meal!

I have visited several times. I have tried sashimi, maki, smoothie, Mochi and ramen in winter. All of them are better than other Japanese restaurant in Evanston. I strongly recommend coffee Mochi and ramen lunch specials!

I almost come here every night now hahahahhaha. Clean restaurant, friendly people, and most important of all, great food! Their fish is really fresh. I have to mention the boba smoothie they made. They are really really good, with real fruits! My favorite rolls are rainbow roll and sake.

Talk about a lot of food for a lunch special! I have heard of Sashimi Sashimi for years from friends who went to Northwestern University. They talked about the cheap sushi and amazing lunch special. I had a craving for sushi, and I was in the neighborhood so I decided to stop in. The best way I like to explain this place is that it is fast casual for sushi. The ordering process is a bit confusing. They have sheets of paper to write down your order but no one at the sushi bar took it. I went to the register and placed my order for a spicy tuna roll and a shrimp tempura roll. The lunch special was under $ 10 and included soup and salad. They prepare your food and call your name when it is ready. The sushi itself is decent. It is not the best sushi I have every had, but it is definitely fresh and serviceable. The miso soup was also very nice. The restaurant could be a bit cleaner. The tables were a bit dirty, but I noticed that staff was around wiping up. It could have been due to the busy lunch rush. Still, a great deal for sushi anywhere.

Great $ 10 lunch combo. California maki, shrimp tempura maki, salad, miso soup. Served quickly. Some of the best miso soup I’ve had, and everything else quite good!

I LOVE sushi. I have been eating sushi since I was in elementary school, so I’ve had the real deal and the not-so-real deal. Sashimi Sashimi is okay – not consistently delicious every time I order. It’s nice that they deliver, that was helpful when I first tried them. They are located on a one way in downtown Evanston so parking is tricky. When I order sushi take-out I get Philadelphia rolls(smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber) and a spicy tuna hand roll. To be honest I’ve only had their food 3 times and it tasted different each time, which is kind of weird… I’m giving two stars because I personally was not impressed with the inconsistency of tastes of the SAME order at different times.

I had about a half hour for a quick lunch in Evanston and there are a lot of choices. This place looked liked it had steady lunch traffic. The place runs a lunch special where you get two sushi rolls along with a small salad and miso soup. There are about 20 sushi choices. So you can get out of here for about ten bucks including tax and drink(plus don’t forget to throw some change into the tip jar). I got a standard California roll plus a spicy salmon roll. So this place fulfilled all my requirements: freshly prepared, moderately priced and most importantly, quick.

I used to love Sashimi Sashimi before I knew any better, but now it’s just okay. A solid 3 star place for sushi. The sushi is not cheap for what you get. I would recommend that you not get the Mango Lobster roll. It doesn’t actually have any lobster in it… Sad. The sushi is not bad, but it’s just average, I do like the ika salad(squid) though, as well as the seaweed salad. The bubble tea drinks are a hit or miss. Sometimes they are amazing, and other times, they are very icy and you will find yourself chewing little chunks of ice along with your tapioca. Don’t come during the winter because it is freezing. You won’t be able to take off your coat and scarf and will be tempted to eat with your mittens on! Basically, I would only recommend Sashimi Sashimi if they are running a Groupon special and you are really craving sushi!

Did take out the other day during lunch and was just not impressed. Price-wise there are lunch specials for $ 8 or $ 9. When they gave me my take out order they didn’t include chop sticks or soy, so once back at the office, I was out of luck on that. Thought that would be standard? The one saving grace was that the Yellow Tail and scallion roll was OK. Nothing special but not bad. The spicy salmon roll was just horrid. The ‘spicy’ or more like ‘mysteriously colored yet no flabor mayo’ was slathered on top of each piece so that you could not taste the sushi and the rice became soggy and fell apart. The miso was typical and the salad would have been fine had they also not completely doused that in dressing. Perhaps for take out, don’t dress the salads before? Will probably not be back.

I want to like this place. I really do. I can eat pounds and pounds of sushi well beyond what is probably medically safe and/or generally normal for someone who’s trying to eat like a normal human being. Then again, that’s me. I’m not overweight, but I eat like 2 people and have my whole life. The lychee bubble tea was actually a major plus, and I did enjoy that. The salad wifey got, however, was boring and lacked creativity. It also happened to be basically identical to the house salad that came with the lunch special plus some mandarin oranges. I understand that the idea of a menu is to use consistent ingredients across recipes to not have too many unnecessary variations but usually you would want to spruce up a salad a bit more. Understandably this might be because it’s just not a priority for a sushi establishment, I suppose. Then we get to the edamame, which was… well, alright. I agree that Todoroki(as mentioned by Jane) is a better money to food ratio with the buffet, and generally has some better options. The sushi itself? A bit overpriced — I’m not even basing that off AYCE pricing in this statement, but just for standalone sushi rolls it was pretty high, on par with Kansaku. The chefs at least do a pretty good job with the preparation, as my photo would certainly attest to. Dragon rolls were nice. In all honesty I think if Sashimi Sashimi got the kind of business Todoroki did they’d probably do alright, but since they don’t and yet have a ton of competition it means they’re kinda stagnating a little. I think it’s time for them to reinvent their rolls, or restaurant, or just change things. That’s how it seems to me. I just… eh, no. I hate to say an establishment should sink, but I think Sashimi Sashimi needs some kind of restaurant impossible thing.
