Really good sandwiches for about the same price you would pay at Subway. I had the pulled pork Indonesian ginger sandwich and it was excellent. I would recommend telling them to go light on the mayo, but otherwise the sandwich was a home run. The spicy chips are great too, not too hot but well seasoned. They remind me of a gingery Old Bay flavor.

I’m really glad I stopped in here. I had the fig sandwich. Fig, goat cheese, lettuce, cucumber, carrots, and bread. At first I felt like it would take a lot of carrots. But the flavors all melted together very well. When I opened my sandwich wrappings, at first I felt like the bread looked store-bought. But it was perfect soft and crusty. I would definitely come back. It seemed like a family run place. I had the spiced chips on the side. They were good. Next time I like the slaw.

The Burmese Coconut Curry was a no-fuss eat. A compact delight: chicken, shredded carrots, cucumber, cilantro, and coconut curry stuffed into a roll. I chose to get the slaw, which was sparingly tossed in a light sauce. You should get the chips. But that’s just me. To be honest, the coconut curry was underwhelming. As a die-hard fan of rich Indian foods, I was moderately disappointed to not find the creamy, savory flavors I love in curries — in fact it was rather liquid-y. The curry leaked into the wrap in mini pools, and I was sad I couldn’t sop it up because of social constructs called Manners in a Public but Privately Owned Eating Space. Nevertheless, the underwhelming flavors were not underwhelming enough to keep me from coming back. I will come back for you, Soulwich. The store owner was so cheerful and chipper. He makes people — college students especially it seems — feel right at home. Strikes up good conversation, and cares about his customers. A mood picker-upper. Probably part of the reason I’ll come back!

Fantastic sandwiches aside, Soulwich has the best attention to detail I’ve seen in a small sandwich shop. If you ask for a cup for water, they give you a pre-poured cup with a lid. They bring out your sandwiches in a wicker basket and your slaw comes in a cute little Chinese takeout container. They’re also just the nicest, friendliest bunch. I will definitely come again.

Delicious sandwiches for a good price. Berkeley needs this. I had the sesame chili tuna sandwich with slaw. Very flavorful with great texture.

I like Soulwich. They come to Northwestern’s Kellogg business school once a week and make some pretty killer Asian bbq tacos. Their standard offerings are loaded with fresh grated carrot, cucumber, and cilantro on a fresh baguette(banh mi style). There’s not actually all that much meat on the sandwiches, but there’s enough to taste it, though really what I get these sandwiches for is all of the fresh veggies. I really like the guy who runs Soulwich– he’s very friendly and likes to talk to me about my work. One small area for improvement: a lot of the sandwich offerings, while they sound great on the menu, all sort of taste the same. More variety in the product might be nice.

On my first visit to Soulwich I sampled a sandwich and a salad. My signature sandwich was the vegetarian Indonesian Ginger BBQ. The bread was a nicely toasted French bread with generous pickled carrots, mayo and a lively soy sauce dressing. I chose the vegetarian option which was seitan and was less than satisfied with it. It held the sauce well but the texture was too firm and distracting from the sandwich. I am excited to try the sandwich again with a ‘traditional’ protein. The chips were a nice, crunchy compliment and though we chose the ‘Burmese’ option it was difficult to discover their flavor until the bottom of the bag(great flavor combo though). The salad we chose was the Wasabi Caesar Chicken Salad. It was a generous portion and I was pleasantly surprised to find the chicken to be warm and shredded. Though not what I expected, it greatly added to the salad and overall it was very tasty. The salad is combined with rice, making it a filling lunch option. I would caution against it’s name however, I did not fully taste the wasabi or caesar flavors — more of a sweet Asian vinaigrette. I will be visiting again. Also this place is seemingly cash only(or card use highly discouraged).

What’s there to say about Soulwich? Or should I say, «Wich» words should I use to describe Soulwich? Soulwich is a combination of the words Soul and Sandwich, which implies that their Sandwiches affect your Soul. And they do. Their Sandwiches have a profound effect on your Soul. Do you want a good Sandwich? Do you want juicy goodness, ripe yumminess, and crunchy pleasantry? Do you want a sweet Soul? If I see you in person, I may tell you to eat these Sandwiches, these Soulwiches. They’re there waiting for you. Would I put a ring on it? Let’s just say, if it’s a ring of mustard and the hand is a yummy yummy Sandwich for my Soul, then, uh, Yeah. I’m Soulwichin’.

When you see the indie-looking ‘Soulwich’ sign as you roam around downtown Evanston, it’s hard to tell if this place even serves food or not. But once you bite into the wonderful, harmonious ratios of crispy and soft bread, sweetish sourish vegetables, and warm meat — ahh, it doesn’t matter that the place doesn’t look very fancy or nice. The prices are very affordable and the food portions are perfect. Also they have this cool credit card sliding thing that I’ve never seen before. It looked pretty legit so I mean that’s nice.

The sandwiches here combine interesting flavors. I had a Chicken tikka sandwich, and I was not disappointed. I also tried the Teriyaki sandwich and it was good. The fusion of sandwich bread with different Asian flavors works pretty well. My sandwich reminded me of a Banh Mi with different spices. All in all, the sandwich was just enough to fill me up. It was not the cheapest sandwich, but I knew I was paying for unique flavors, so I didn’t mind.

Surprisingly awesome. I live nearby and never walk in because I thought it was one of these health food vegan places where you feel great about yourself because you actually ate nothing. I had heard decent things so decided to give it a shot and I was pretty impressed. I had the indo pork sandwich with the coleslaw(no-mayo). indo pork sandwich — bread is a pretty solid. I like bread that’s a bit tougher and has a bit to it. This definitely does it, pretty hearty. pork i believe is braised until super tender. the toppings are similar to a banh mi but not pickled(shredded carrots, coriander, not sure what else). the sauce is pretty awesome. no idea what’s inside of it but it brings it together. Only issue I would say is that the sandwich is a bit small for my taste(7−8inches) and there could be more meat(as always). taste wise, pretty solid. The coleslaw is alright. It’s pickled instead of a mayo sauce, which i generally find too heavy for vegetables. It’s a good thing to have inbetween bites of the sandwich. I’d come back.

This is the third(and last) time I’ve tried to order from Soulwich. Despite their website, and Unilocal’s listing of their hours, 2 times I’ve gone and found signs saying closed for catering, and tonite my third try, thru Unilocal’s app, i ordered on line thru a link on Unilocal that was called Eat24. My cc was charged, i went to Soulwich to pick it up, and there was a sign on the door saying«closed today oven problem». Soulwich is obviously not able to honor their own posted public hours. They also have no message on their phone to tell you upon calling that their schedule has changed. Well. Said id never try again but just called at 8:20 tuesday eve 2⁄23. This is first time they answered ! But alas to no avail. Tho hours say til 9, woman said sorry oven closed now. Yikes !!

Delicious sandwiches and salads made with Southeast Asian inspired flavors and fresh ingredients. A great place for both vegetarian and meat options. The Paneer Fig Sandwich and the Indonesian Ginger BBQ Sandwich were both excellent. The preparation was a little slow compared to other restaurants where you order at the counter but the food was worth the wait.

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Evanston, and whenever I can I come here. These sandwiches turned me into a cucumber and cilantro lover, neither of which I liked before I had this food! The chips are incredible — the owner and his wife are great people, very nice, they remember their loyal customers and make suggestions and have great senses of humor. And the décor is great! You can sit outside during the summer and it’s in a nice little spot in Evanston, downtown but not too busy. I like the singapore tikka sandwich the most, but I’ve had the other curry one(name I cannot recall) and I think the BBQ sandwich, which I wasn’t excited for but ended up tasting phenomenal. I’m partial to curry, though. These sandwiches are just SOGOOD. I always get chicken. The bread soaks up the juice just right… me and my friends always make it a point to run by when we are in the area, it’s one of the best spots I’ve been to in all of Chicago to be honest.

I’ve tried the Burmese Coconut Curry, Singapore Tikka, and Indonesian Ginger BBQ sandwiches, as well as the slaw and chips(the sides). Every time I’ve ate here I’ve ordered something different than the previous time, in hopes that I’m going to get a sandwich bursting with flavor, but every time I’ve gotten mildly flavored meat with a side of either mildly flavored potato chips or bland, non-creamy coleslaw. I don’t know whose palate Soulwich is trying to appeal to, but it sure isn’t mine. Eat your sandwich quickly, or else the bread will get soggy.

This is another local shop in Evanston that is unique in its own way. For me, it’s a fun take on a Vietnamese banh mi and Indonesian food? Regardless, it is refreshing to have a different option in the area. The sandwiches are good and filled to the brim with vegetables and your choice of meat, and everything comes with a side of homemade chips. I would personally say the food is OK, not great especially when factoring in the price. It comes to about $ 8.50 for a sandwich that leaves me wanting. a little more for the price. I can’t really put my tongue on it, but maybe a stronger spice, flavor, or something to really penetrate through the vegetables would make it taste better. Overall, it’s a decent place for something different.

Nice little place in Evanston to grab a Vietnamese style sandwich for lunch. I went here with a few co-workers on a Friday afternoon. They were quite busy, as there were several large carry-out orders placed in front of us. The people working were very friendly; you can tell they care a lot about their restaurant and how they treat their customers. I ordered the Indonesian Ginger BBQ sandwich with steak and a side of slaw. The sandwich was good! It’s not the greatest meat in the world but it was better than I expected. The sandwich had a lot of flavors and was a good size for the price. I enjoyed the slaw, enough so that I ate the extra one that was brought to our table too. This wouldn’t be my go to lunch place in Evanston, but it’s definitely a nice change up if you’re looking for something easy or a sandwich not from a chain.

After seeing some reviews, we decided to check this joint out. It wasn’t very busy when we walked in so we sat at the counter and enjoyed a very nice view of outside. The sweet woman behind the counter was very fast and brought them out quickly. We ordered the Indonesian ginger barbecue sandwich with steak as well as the wasabi teriyaki sandwich with chicken. The wasabi teriyaki was really good but the superstar of the meal was the bbq sandwich. I highly recommend that if you dine here. The bread is toasted absolutely perfectly reminiscent of a nicely toasted potbellys sub, but with a little Asian fusion. This is a must try for a lunch place if you are in e-town!
