This review is based on lunch with my wife and kids. The service was good. The environment was good. The food was good. The prices were a bit high. Higher than what the food warranted. The kids menu was 6.50 a meal no drink. My children got kid size sodas that were 2.50. So, 9.00 for a very basic grilled cheese, fries and pop. There’s no protein in there. What warrants 9.00 for a kids meal? Price gouge much? I had the fish and chips, 14.00. For that I got three medium size fish pieces. They were good, but I feel like there should have been four pieces at that price point. 2.50 for soda. So 10.00 for four sodas. For pop. Seriously? The food was good, albeit a tad on the salty side. This place might be good for a local night out. But I live blocks away. And I might frequent this place often, if the prices were more reasonable. This place is serving pub food at steak house prices. Doesn’t match up. Too bad. I don’t plan on coming back with my family for sure. Maybe a few drink with the wife, but that’s it.

My family and I went here for Mother’s Day lunch and it was our first time coming. Irish cuisine in general sounds pretty bland but the food here was actually decent. Aside from loving the décor and ambiance considering this was a former butcher shop, I loved how the staff today went above and beyond to make Mother’s Day special-surprising customers at the end by comping whatever all the Mom’s ate. What a nice treat! It was totally unexpected and a gesture I’ve never encountered anywhere else. I will definitely come back after that!

Second time at this bar/restaurant and believe it or not, I had to drop a star. Came for cinco de Mayo. I think the cook forgot that jalapeños in the tacos are optional. Nope, he piled them on which killed the taste of the tacos not to mention the GF does not eat spicy. Then they forgot to put cheese on the tacos, which we told the waitress at the time of order. So they bring out some Kraft looking American cheese. Really… I want to give them a third try but will take some convincing. The Cilantro Mule was on Point though. Get it together.

This place has a nice vibe to it. It’s great to have drinks and watch a band play or to play catch-up with your girlfriends. I really like the southside martini and the interior is just lovely.

What can I say about a bar the size of someone’s basement? I guess hipsters could call it intimate? Literally 8 tables plus the bar, which takes up half the room. Would be nice if it was empty, I hate to say, then you could actually not feel claustrophobic and hear someone without shouting between sips. Noise level is OC. Tried to have a nice night with my fiancé and we could not hear each other despite sitting across the booth. Def need some sound proofing. Food was alright, beer was alright. Should have kept the AJ Meats if you ask me.

I’ve been to Porter Cullens about a half dozen times now. After it changed from the butcher shop and it sat empty I would drive past and think of all the different businesses that occupied that spot, going all the way back to the small grocery store in the 1960’s. One day I saw a sign that I thought said«Porter Cutlets», and I thought«another butcher shop.» When I slowed down one day and saw tables inside the lightbulb went on(not the brightest bulb, I admit) that this must be a bar/restaurant now. It took awhile for me to go in, and the first time it was a little disorganized, but it was new. The staff is very friendly. The food is good, above the average pub grub stuff. A fun addition are the«pigs wings», which I had had just a week earlier for the first time in Milwaukee. They have craft beers and an American swill on tap, so something for everything, plus a lot of bottle selection. Not a wine drinker, so that’s a mystery. People mention the noise, and that is a factor, but not so much when I can get a chance to get in there, which is usually mid-week. If they could mute the noise somehow it would be more comfortable. Overall, a good place, and off the main drag of most things. I’m surprised Evergreen granted a license, but not disappointed. The really nice thing is that I can walk home if I want to.

Loved this place both times I was there. Great food and music; attentive employees; clean and comfortable ambience. The Irish egg rolls are delicious! The décor is modern with lots of white, dark wood, and splashes of red via the chairs. I should say, though, that I was there after the lunch rush on Sat, so the place wasn’t crowded.

We recently moved to the Evergreen Park area and are completely digging the cool Irish pub vibe at Porter Cullens. Good comfort food staples like fish and chips and burgers. Pretty decent selection of craft beers as well. Live music, friendly service, and a warm and welcoming ambiance have made this our absolute favorite place in EP thus far!

I am really loving this place. It makes me sad I no longer live near here. The service is friendly and the clientele is nice. Its a fun but older crowd. The décor is cute. I always feel very comfortable in here. The drinks are good. I cant exactly remember the beer list because I am never in the mood for beer here but the wine list is decent. The prices are average too. The food can be a little salty for me, but I am overly sensitive to salt. The pork wings are amazing. Definitely order those. The sliders were pretty good too. Other than that I have always just sort of shared with whoever I was with. This is one of the best neighborhood spots in the area! I would for sure recommend it especially if you live in the area.

This place looked to have all sorts of potential, but in the end was a letdown. First, let me tell you, they have great fries. That being said, the rest needs a lot to be desired, and they need better execution of preparation of their food. i ordered the blue cheese with candied bourbon bacon burger, with all the extras(lettuce tomato onion). The burger was way overdone(bad enough that I actually sent it back) the bacon was under cooked, and the onion was the rings from the outer layer of the onion that you should throw in the garbage(the tough fibre filled layers that you can’t bite through). The first bite revealed the bad onions. I asked for fresh slices, got them, same result. Discarded the onions. Second bite revealed the burger was very well done(I ordered medium, and made a point of asking if medium would still be pink in the middle, assured it would be). Sent the burger back. Got a whole new setup, including fries. Like i said, the fries are great. However, the bacon was under cooked again, the burger was barely less well done, and AGAIN I got onion skin instead of onions. So until this newer entrant to the south side learns how to avoid all these issues, I say give this place a pass.

I loved the food but the noise level is way to high. If you go at lunch time, you can’t have normal conversations. Too many hard surfaces. They need to put in a lot of soft surfaces to absorb sound. I know several people that planned to meet girlfriends for lunch here and walked out because noise level is too high. I live close and would love to frequent this pub but loud places just ruin the experience for me. Please fix this problem.

Great neighborhood establishment. Service was good but the food was only fair. Disappointed with the house speciality Corned Beef sandwich but did really enjoy the broccoli cheese soup. Will likely not be back.

Good food, decent craft beers. Worth checking out again. It was a cute neighborhood place. Waitress was good and they offered us a free round, so really can’t complain. Lack of vegetarian options on the menu, but hey, that’s life.

A lifetime ago I used to hang out in this area. I remember vividly the butcher shop that was in this location. When I saw the Unilocal listing for Porter Cullen’s, I had no idea it was in the very same space. When I pulled up, I had a fun flashback to my sisters high school graduation from Mother McAuley, and getting steaks for the graduation barbecue afterwards(circa 1990??). Porter Cullen’s makes up for the loss of a really great butcher shop. First off, the staff are so nice in here. Not fake nice corporate restaurant-ish, but like truly community hospitable welcoming. We came on a Saturday night and the place was about half full. We grabbed a booth and were greeted within a minute by our server. I can’t recall her name, but she was friendly and sincere. Guinness on tap here is poured expertly. They have a decent wine list– my date found something she really wanted, so we were both happy. For an appetizer, we ordered the Harp Mussels. I have never had beer mussels before, and these were delicious. The flavor of the Harp beer wasn’t lost in the cooking at all. The dish to try here is definitely the burger. I had the one with portobello mushroom and provolone. It was outstanding. I don’t often order burgers, but the waitress said it was the best thing on the menu. I’d have a hard time arguing with her. My date had the fish and chips, and they were pretty standard fried cod… good as anywhere else I’ve eaten them. Overall, this place is really good! I’m definitely planning on coming back the next time I am on the south side. It’s so nice having places to go to other than Western Ave and 95th St. Four stars.

I used to live in Evergreen and remember the butcher shop this place used to be. It’s in kind of a weird place… smack dab in the middle of a residential neighborhood. But, anyway, I went there with my dad and wife this week and it was a solid place. The interior is small but nice. Our server was very helpful as we endured a toddler meltdown right before our dinner arrived. The Guinness on tap is excellent and they pour it right. My wife fell in love with a particular brand of Irish Cider while on our honeymoon in Dublin and was excited to see it on the menu here. The food was pretty good as well. We had the Irish egg, which is a rip on the traditional Scotch egg and the Harp mussels for appetizers and both were good, although the Irish egg seemed a bit dry. For dinner I had the corned beef sandwich. It was very good but had the most unusual flavoring… almost like fennel or anise. My wife had a burger and my dad had the Guinness stew. Everyone enjoyed the food, although the general consensus was everything was a bit too salty. Overall, this is a nice neighborhood place with a friendly atmosphere and really solid food. There’s a few nice beers on tap and even more options in cans/bottles. I’d recommend this place for a fun evening.

Monday Special of ½ priced burgers! Had a lovely glass of wine paired with a candied bacon blue cheese burger… YUM! Great service, friendly and inviting. Don’t let the parking out front scare you… You can park at the school just west of PC

To start off, the place is fairly new so my hopes are that changes are still to come. The place is a very nice addition to neighborhood life in Evergreen Park. I went there with 3 other people for lunch and I think we all enjoyed our meals, they were very tasty. The fries are great and they actually threw in an extra basket of fries for free which was very nice. I had their corned beef sandwich and everything was great except that the rye bread was very very soggy, like a wet pancake soggy. That was my only quam, I would have much preferred a normal toasted piece of dry rye bread. Everything else was great tasting and delicious. The service however needs a lot of work In my opinion. Our server was extremely friendly and nice however it took forever to get drinks and whenever she came back to our table, she would not take any empty drinks, glasses, or plates. So, our table got very clustered very soon. It was awkward. But, I understand the place is new and tweaks will be made, hopefully. All in all, it is a nice neighborhood joint and I would go there again to give it another chance.

Went here the other night after months of anticipation of awaiting its opening. Well, I am very happy to say that it was well worth the wait! This is not your typical south side Irish pub with dark interiors and questionable food. On the contrary, Porter Cullens has a modern and fresh interior appointed with comfortable furnishings and an attention to detail. My wife really liked the old fashioned light bulbs and the beautiful marble bar. We had viewed the menu online, so we had already made up our minds on what we would eat. We started our meal with the vegetarian crostini with portabello mushrooms and fresh motz. It tasted fantastic and paired well with Leinenkugel’s cranberry ginger shandy. This place has a great selection of craft beers and favorites such as Guinness and Stella on tap. For our main courses, my wife had the Guinness braised short rib stew and I had the brown sugar bacon blue cheese burger with a pint of One Trick Pony: Spotted Saddle. The burger was beyond belief! So flavorful! The Guinness stew was amazing as well. I could barely get my wife to let me taste it because she was so enamored with it. Rich and savory, it was the perfect choice for a cold Friday night. We really can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu, especially the muscles with Harp cream sauce and the fish and chips. If you are looking for great dining experience or a place to have a pint with friends, Porter Cullens offers an experience in the same vein of the Gastropubs of Dublin and London. Including a unique menu, clean interior design and an amazing staff! Definitely visit if you are on the south side.
