If you have a child with functioning autism, this is not the place. While their sales people will assure you they are equipped to deal with kids on the high end of the spectrum and while they explicitly have an acceptance policy, they actually are not equipped or accepting. They also do not follow their own policies and guidelines regarding behavior and discipline, not talking to the child about their behavior and expectations nor the child’s parent when there is an issue, even after being repeatedly asked by the parent. They’ll just call you on a Friday after your child has been there a whole week, having never told you there have been concerns, that your child is not welcome back to camp and they are not willing to negotiate a plan to correct the concerning behavior now that the parent is aware and can work with the child. They also won’t bother to mention their partnership with The Special Olympics, which may have provided some additional options for keeping your kid in camp. So, unless rearranging your schedule and finding emergency care/activities for your child would not be a burden for you, I’d choose another camp.
