This is a nice lunch stop. The smoked salmon chowder is a must try. You can completely customize your sandwich, including various bread options. My favorite is the ciabatta bread.

Great salmon chowder and soups. All their sandwiches are delicious, with everything made to order. I’ve never had a bad meal here. But I think the menu is a little over priced especially for soup and sandwiches but for the occasional lunch with friends I enjoy heading to the chowder house.

Great local place. Helpful and friendly staff. Really good home made food. Halibut chowder was awesome.

Good soup and sandwiches. The reason for the 3 stars is because they are closed on Sunday’s and that is a huge day for church goers to go out to eat.

Great spot for a quick lunch. We like the crab salad and chicken salad(on a croissant!). The halibut and corn chowder is also tasty. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly and fast. I would stay away from the baked goods in the case at checkout– the macaroon was underwhelming. Overall a great spot for a casual meal.

How anyone can rate this as good food shocks me. Blandest chowder I have ever eaten, even canned from Walmart is better, chicken salad was bland and my friend’s ham sandwich was pathetic looking. I honestly am confused as to how anyone can think this is worth their money, unless they want the blandest food imaginable. Save your money and get the chicken salad premade from Sam’s Club, it is so much better and just make a ham sandwich as cheaply as you can to compete. I haven’t been this disappointed in a place in a long time. However, some people seem to like it

Food was horrible!!! The name of the place deceived us. We expected not a great bowl of soup but a decent one given in this cold weather and its name. We ordered the halibut corn chowder and shared a crab salad sandwich. Soup: The soup was only warm and almost to cold when it came out. We could not find a single piece of halibut inside. The texture was thick. It tasted like thicken soup with a bunch of potatoes and corn in it. Sandwich: it’s a sandwich I can make at home with Safeway bought crab salad, lettuce, tomatoes in whole grain bread. Overall, it’s a easy stop for a quick put together sandwich and soup. No wonder there was a lot of college kids. We could have just bought our ingredients at Safeway and made our own lunch.

In and out in less than 30 minutes. Fresh food and definitely made with TLC. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots in town

I have eaten here for lunch several times while working in Fairbanks. The chowder is good sandwiches are run of the mill sandwiches you make at home and things are pretty overpriced over $ 20 for soup and sandwich. I walked in with a bottle of Sprite and was told I would have to leave because it is a health violation to bring in a drink. What a bunch of BS! I’ve brought many a drink into restraunts and was never asked to take it outside before. The waitress was extremely rude about the whole thing so I just got up and left. I will never go back there again.

Can’t go wrong with the halibut or salmon chowder. I usually get half sandwich and cup of soup! Simple little place. Get there early usually packs out during lunch hours.

Kind of a hole in the wall. Not anything fancy but don’t judge a book by it’s cover the service is pretty good and the food hits the spot every time. I would compare it to the cookie jar but smaller and about the same quality of food. Which is pretty good nothing exceptional but pretty good. Overall pretty good service, food, experience. Definitely worth the time to check it out for yourself.

Sandwiches were great. Would easily order them again. The chowder was just okay. It was way too thickened and fairly bland; a common problem with most west coast renditions of New England Clam Chowder I guess. Wish we could have tried the smoked salmon chowder but they were out. Overall 5⁄10.

Stopped by here the other day with some clients while in town for business… what a great little find! You pull up and after a few heads shakes, you realize you’re not at grandma’s house, and you simply follow all the other folks waking in… mostly a mix of locals and the fine young men and woman who selflessly serve our country to protect our freedom. It’s really just a soup and sandwich place — not sure if it’s open for dinner but none-the-less, it’s a great place to eat! The soup was delicious, chowder of course, and my sandwich was made perfectly. It’s a no frills eatery that simply serves up good wholesome food with a gracious smile and a warm thank you on your way out the door. And of course, it doesn’t hurt that the wait staff is a bunch of cuties :). If your traveling to Fairbanks, bookmark this place and enjoy yourself a good lunch — and be sure to thank those young men and woman who are serving our country, sitting in there enjoying a sandwich too!

I love this place just as much as I did when I was little. I come here often and always get the same thing. Yeah it gets crowded and some of the servers aren’t overly friendly but I really don’t care. This has been my spot since I was young and I will always come here.

Feeling a bit hungry, I decided to come by here to try their clam chowder. I wasn’t in the mood for a sweet breakfast and it was around 11:30 in the morning. Since my stomach is adjusted to PST, I was getting hungry. I walked in and the place was empty. I think there was only 1 customer but from the reviews, it sounded like this place was going to get busy during the«lunch rush.» I ordered the clam chowder, chef salad, and grilled cheese sandwich with pepperjack cheese. The food came out pretty quick, since no one was there. I took sip of the clam chowder and it tasted like the canned stuff. I would expect their chowder to be their #1 item, since that’s the name of the restaurant. I didn’t taste like it was made from scratch, so I went on to the grilled cheese. The sandwich was what I expected, very homemade and tasted ok. The bread was average and didn’t have any grill marks on it. Out of the 3 items ordered, I think the chef’s salad was the best item. It was huge portion but the veggies were very fresh and it was more than enough for me. The salad was also the most expensive($ 12).

Food flavor was ok. My soup was cold and I had to send it back 3 times to get a warm bowl. All they did was microwave it. This tells me the soups are not fresh. As for the sandwiches, they were ok but basic. The desserts were very good and the service was polite and prompt.

This place is nice and the food is fresh but I was just underwhelmed. If, however, you like chowder and homemade sandwiches, this is the place for you. I just don’t like chowder.

Decided to grab a bite out for dinner. When I did a search on Unilocal, the first listing was an ad for Chowder House. I don’t usually click on ads but was curious so gave it a shot. I saw the reviews for salads, soups and sandwiches and thought it was just what we were looking for. We wanted something out, but more on the light side. When we arrived, we were greeted and found a seat. Our server gave the ins and outs on how it works at Chowder House. She asked what we wanted to drink and left us with the form to fill out(our first test). There’s a variety of sandwiches that you get to pick from, along with the bread, toppings, cheese, etc. The same goes for the salads. We decided on each of us getting a cup of soup. I got the haddock chowder and my partner got the salmon chowder. A couple of the potatoes were a bit under done and not super hot but they were so thick and creamy that it almost didn’t matter. The haddock chowder is a bit smokier than the salmon but other than that, the ingredients are very similar with potato chunks and corn kernels. Wanting to try a couple of things, I got the side of pasta salad which could be a meal in itself after the chowder. It was served with choice of dressing which I couldn’t decide on between the house green pepper dressing or the italian so the waitress suggested I get one of each since they’re served on the side. That was perfect and both ended up being so good that I used them both. My partner got the Baked Salmon sandwich and chose the sourdough bread with a spread of cream cheese. The bread was so fresh and soft, the salmon, a large slab and the seasoning just perfect. It was served with a side of dill sauce that the sandwich didn’t need but I really liked it in addition to the cream cheese. I think she made the wisest choice possible and I’m positive we’ll be back. The soups will be great during the colder months and I can’t stop thinking about the sandwich! The servers are awesome, really nice and the restaurant is relaxing and comfortable.
