Many trails. Many places to get lost in a beautiful world. All roads(trails) lead to lakes: phoenix and bon tempe. Lots of shade and lots of sun. When all is said and done head over to gestalt house for brats and beer… and know that you have had some fun!

Finding this place, buried deep in a residential area of Fairfax, is like hitting the mother lode. Who knew you could drive down densely inhabited, narrow, winding streets, come upon a parking lot, restrooms, and a child-care center, walk a little further, and have a network of trails at your feet? It seems unlikely that such riches could be hidden there at the end of Porteous Road but that’s how we roll here in Marin, where more than 50% of the county is permanently dedicated open space. Six Points Trail, Yolanda Ridge, Worn Springs Fire Road, Buckeye Trail… Everything meets up in these well-marked paths in the hills. It’s easy to create a rich loop-hike spanning only a few miles that nets you tree-shaded pathways and incredible Mount Tam views. The paths are well traveled without being crowded so it feels safe even for solo hikers. Leashed dogs are welcome and unlike in some places, idiots leave neither dog poop or dog-poop-filled plastic bags along the trail. If you don’t want to plan your own hike here, here’s a couple of recommendations:
