This place is a solid A-OK, and yes, it is a dive bar, right down to the ID check upon entry, peanuts, & sticky bar. This was my first visit. Hubby had been here before although it was long ago. I had seen a posting about marti gras celebrations at this place and was curious about checking it out. Prior to this hubby had always steered my elsewhere but this time I was determined and we had time to kill. The ID guy was nice and chatty. When we entered there was no initial greeting. We found a table but moved to the bar because we were not sure how to get service. The bar needed a wipe down. The wall decorations and style made sense when I learned they opened in the early 80s. I tried not to think too much about the grease on the decorations and how old it might be… On my first visit I was not brave enough to try the gator. We ordered the loaded fries and I had a cider(they were out of the beer I initially ordered). The fries were pretty good. I used the ranch dressing and the hot sauce. The guy we interacted with was nice. Sure he figured out we were killing time before a movie but he didn’t mind. While it was clear there was a regular crowd I did not feel unwelcome. The cider was pretty good as were the fries. While the bar needed a wipe down the floor was not sticky(sticky floors are an important limit on my dive bar meter…). I could see us visiting again before or after a movie or other event in the area(or perhaps for marti gras themed shenanigans). Neither of us visited a bathroom, I was just not feeling that brave(or desperate).

The best dive bar in the DC Area. You get a great selection of beer, good and inexpensive food, a cheerful cadre of regulars, friendly staff, live entertainment — good, clean fun.

A fun dive bar right near Mason. It has a fun vibe and usually is quite busy. Cheap drinks and great place cause you can walk back to campus and the townhouses nearby.

Ew! Hell to the NO! To be fair, we didn’t know we were going to that um… restaurant? We thought we were going to the Fat Tuesday that’s found in places like Florida, Nevada – the frozen daiquiri chain. We walk up and find a dark place with crazy crap on the walls, dirty peanut shelled floors, and of course no one half way smiles, says hi, or even can I help you? they just creepily stare at you. I can honestly say I would not of been shocked if I marched right up to the bartender and asked him for a drink, BUT first watch him spit in the glass to clean it. *shudders* …this place is a HUGEPASS!

First of all, understand what Fat’s is. It’s a dive bar where you go to get good food and great beer in a fun atmosphere. Being across the street from GMU Patriot Center, you of course find a lot of young folks here. There is live music on most nights, and special events every day. It’s a great place to catch sports games too. The décor is what it is, a mass of stuff accumulated over the past 25+ years, much of it donated by regular patrons. If you want a fancy hifalutin restaurant, look elsewhere. Fat’s is known for their cajun/New Orleans cuisine. The wings are excellent. The bacon cheese fries are excellent — especially with the house made ranch! I don’t even like ranch and I could drink this stuff… the gumbo, red beans and rice and jambalaya are authentic and delicious. Come on Mondays for the«taste of New Orleans» where you get a salad, entrée and garlic bread for only $ 10. Cheap wings and onion rings on Wednesdays. PRO-TIP: A new thing they’re doing is «micro mondays» where reps from local breweries come with a special beer to put on tap. You can meet and talk to these reps, who usually have free swag to give out. Discounted growlers are also offered. So far I’ve seen DC Brau, Ocelot, O’Connor, Fair Winds and Old Bust Head. If you like craft beer, dives and or good food, you owe it to yourself to check this place out!

Not that bad of spot but if it didn’t have music I probably wouldn’t go here. I get the theme the idea of a bar in new Orleans. Only problem in new Orleans there’s a party up and down the street to return to. Here there’s not. I do have to say the music is almost always solid, whether it’s a reggae, heavy metal, or good old rock and roll, the talent is there. The beers are a bit over priced. The atmosphere is a little dirty but not a bad spot to hear some tunes if you don’t mind standing.

It was actually a nice little bar. They had a stage there. On some nights, they book 5 bands that all take turns playing throughout the night. Then, a couple of the nights will be dedicated to one band(usually a popular local band) and then the rest of the nights are dedicated to «open mic» or jam sessions. This is what I got to see. A bunch of random musicians, who have never met, take turns getting on stage and jamming out together. Sometimes, they will even cover songs together. The bar is located right across the street from George Mason University. At first, I was worried it would be a bunch of young college kids who have never gotten drunk before. Luckily, the bar is 21+ so, the age group was diverse. Mainly middle twenties to early sixties. On One night, they have $ 1 shots of vodka(so that’s the night to stay away to avoid the young college kids, or so I’ve been told). The food is also great! You get free peanuts when you first sit down. The menu looks pretty awesome too. They have a lot of Cajun food. Defiantly influenced heavily by Louisiana cooking. I was eyeing the fried crawfish tails but, I ended up ordering the fried Alligator. It was my first time eating alligator and it was great! I will be trying those crawfish next time I come here!

I have been going to this bar for about 12 years, still the same great service and always familiar faces. I love the owners and I always have a great time, Great local bar with great prices.

A few friends took me to Fat Tuesdays for my birthday and I had a great time. It’s more of a dim, quiet(before the band showed up) kind of place, which appeals to me. They have a nice beer selection and the wait staff gives good recommendations. My friend ordered the frog legs and he said they were very good. I didn’t like them but I think that’s more of a personal preference than the way they were cooked. Good beer and friendly people, I’ll definitely be going back.

Food is pretty average and a tad soggy. A 2 star dive bar for ER refueling if you are in a bind. Do not expect 4 star treatment– the service is casual and slow. We didn’t really get the New Orleans vibe at all — mostly a dark openspace bar with a mixer of huge and mid-size flat screen televisions to watch spots. Fat Tuesday is best for a quick pit stop for drinks and munching on the free peanuts. One palm down.

Had a surprisingly pleasant experience this past Saturday. Stopped in before going to see Frozen on Ice for something to eat(although having been before I was insisting we shouldn’t eat here) and the bartender took such good care of us. I didn’t know what I wanted so he made me a strong something-fruity cocktail and it was delicious so I gulped it down and asked for another. We tried the crab dip(excellent) and the roast beef dip. It was chewy but not bad at all!

Great seafood; and prices for this seafood, on Tuesday evenings. Must haves: raw oysters, pretzel crab dip & shrimp!!! A true seafood bonanza for a great price … Don’t eat too many free peanuts … Where u throw the shells onto their floor!!!

$ 2 Tuesday is a great deal. We had yummy shrimp and clams to go with the cider on tap. The parking lot is very confusing due to the construction. The service is average but you don’t go here for a high class experience. It’s an almost dive bar to get a drink with friends.

So I would agree that I would not come there for the food but the bands were fun! 4 local bands played the whole spectrum of music. Was a lively crowd with great service from the bar staff. Great find!

This is a favorite for our happy hour visits and for some local dining. We love the staff here, the food, and the variety of beer! This local place has been around forever. When you walk it, you automatically feel like you have been coming here since high school. They have nightly specials, consisting of cajun type food, seafood specials, and drink specials. One of my favs is their red beans and rice dish. It contains some sausage, and a couple pieces of garlic bread. Their website shares their specials so check it out. Everything about this place is fun, yummy, and it’s a good place to sneak away!

Fats is a strange little dive with an eclectic crowd. It doesn’t really seem to have an identity other than a small dark bar with sub par food and lots of neon lights. Id like to see more specials, have them clean the place up a little more, and establish their identity!

Fat Tuesday’s is one of the dive bars that caters to the folks of Ye Olde GMU(and folks who work or live close by). The crowd is a mix of students, regulars, and people who stop by on occasion(i.e. me). Super chill vibe with free peanuts and popcorn(popcorn machine in the back by the bar). They have food here but I’ve only ever come for drinks. They offer a decent happy hour. Especially on Tuesdays, aka«2 dollar Tuesdays». Pay 2 dollars for a wristband, then all beer and rail drinks are just 2 bucks. AND they have 2 dollar vodkabombs(mini redbull vodka shots). Though there isn’t anything mini about them. They have live music on some nights too. They also offer food, but I won’t lie, I’ve only ever come here for cheap drinks and popcorn.

Fat Tuesday’s is a hidden in the back of University Mall by the theater and is not the kind of place you’d expect here. That being said its great. Its an awesome dive bar in Fairfax, the kind where people of all ages are welcome and present, a true neighborhood joint. The drinks are cheap in general, but the happy hour deals are where they really shine. My personal favorite happy hour deal here is the $ 3.50 pound of wings on Wednesdays, which goes perfectly with the shelled peanuts they provide, just make sure not to wear your good shoes, since the floor is littered with the shells from the nuts. Its casual, friendly, always has the local games on and is defiantly worth stopping by.
