Great food and service! Had to chose a restaurant for my girlfriends birthday. We weren’t sure what to expect, but by the end of the night we knew we made the right decision. From making a reservation to the service to the food and the final birthday dessert it was all impressive. Also has a clean interior design with good music, light, and noise level. Well done!

Very good. Miso Seabass and other fish dishes are good, as is the sushi rolls. I love that fresh steamed veggies come with dinner

Excellent sushi at an excellent price point. These guys know how to do a great artesanal plate of the very best. Extraordinary presentation of each order. You will feel that each sushi dish was prepared uniquely for you. Impeccable plating techniques and garnishes not seen elsewhere.

Nice and friendly staff, even when you’re not in the mood for sushi, Ryan can still recommend some great dishes for you. Try the grilled Chilean sea bass, cooked to perfection with a hint of sweetness, just enough to touch your heart!

I came here for lunch a few weeks ago and the food wasn’t very good. It was still edible but just not good. We ended up not eating one of the dishes and cancelling one of our dishes. Looking through the pictures on here I wonder if they just didn’t give a s— for lunch, if we got a trainee or what… I don’t really like to go to restaurants with inconsistent quality. The service was good. They didn’t give us any trouble for wanting to cancel an item or for charge us for the dish we like… Which is usually a sign that the food is usually received well and that they care about the customers. Still the food during my visit was bad enough for me not to return.

Love the ambiance of the place. Very busy but was seated after 10 minutes of waiting which I very much appreciated. Server was very attentive and helpful. We ordered the yakitori, fantasy roll and the super spicy tuna roll. Being located in the Mosaic area I was expecting it to be very expensive but the sushi was fairly priced! Only complaint was some of the wrapping for our specialty rolls was a bit hard to the bite but delicious nonetheless. Overall, great place to bring a date. I would definitely come back here!

Iron Chef House is a trendy sushi establishment in Mosaic. From the looks of it, Iron Chef House serves the young urban crowd of Northern Virginia. They focus on presentation and a modern ambiance. I was eager to try out this new restaurant during my visit to Nova. I wasn’t impressed with their food, but I wasn’t expecting much for a trendy place. Their soy sauce ramen was mediocre. My friend couldn’t finish the dish, because the broth was way too salty. I ordered their Sunrise Sashimi Roll, hoping that it would be a tasty, rice-free roll. It contained salmon, shrimp tempura and cucumber inside and spicy tuna, avocado, salmon and ell on top, wrapped in lettuce. The roll was heavy and overloaded with sauce. The pieces didn’t stick together well and was unsatisfying for $ 22. Luckily, our sashimi platter and regular rolls made up for our disappointment. The service was slow and our waiter seemed young and inexperienced. If I come back, it’ll be for the ambiance and traditional rolls and sashimi.

Highlights: Sushi was pretty good Parking not so bad The Service was decent After months of putting it off, I finally got a chance to eat at Iron Chef House twice in the same day. For lunch I had the Lunch any 3 rolls, I choose spicy salmon tuna roll, shrimp tempura, and salmon avocado. I thought the sushi was pretty good for a decent price. My brother and boyfriend got the teriyaki steak lunch box and the sashimi lunch box which they thought they were good with a nice portion of rice included in the box. The waitress we had was kind of rude and not very friendly. I wasn’t familiar with the menu and asked her a simple question of what was included in said combo and she snapped at me like I should know the answer to my own question. For dinner, I came there with my family which totaled to be 7 people in my party. We ordered the house love boat for two, grilled Chilean sea bass, flounder butter yaki, and the atlantic salmon dishes. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the waitress we had during lunch, was the same waitress we had at dinner. I noticed that she was patient and friendly when waiting on my family’s table. Overall it’s a nice sushi place that’s worth trying at least once.

Iron Chef House is downright delicious!!! My husband and I came in on an empty Saturday afternoon around 3PM. We were seated immediately and near a large tv for some college football viewing. The ambiance and is clean and simple. Service was attentive but to be expected in an empty restaurant. They really nail it with the vegetarian options here. We started with vegetable gyoza– crispy and yummy and miso soups– perfect temp and not-too-salty. We moved on to the avocado roll, sweet potato roll, vegetable dragon roll and sweet tofu roll. All were really great with the sweet potato roll being my favorite. The avocado roll was very impressive with perfectly ripe avocado oozing out and it had more avocado than rice– no complaints on the food. I love vegetable sushi and it’s refreshing to see a sushi place with so many options. I’ll be sure to return to try some of their other offerings.

This is a hip Japanese restaurant in the mosaic district. Parking can be tough to come by, but I love this area. The streets are festively decorated with lights around the trees for winter. The décor is pretty cool. One wall has a nice mural on it. The meal was great. Only weird thing was one waitress would ask me if I wanted my water refilled like every time. The answer is yes, if it’s empty and the meal is not over! Anyhow, started with grilled rice balls which are tasty! Have some kind of fish in them. I don’t know what traditional yaki onigiri is supposed to taste like, so don’t quote me – I just know that it tasted good! The pressed sushi is pretty cool looking and still delicious. Would recommend the halo roll. The triple sashimi roll or whatever it is that you can either get 5 pieces or 10 pieces is delicious! People talk about the Kingsley roll and I thought it was pretty good, but the topping of crispy duck skin wasn’t crispy! I was disappointed, but maybe I had hyped it up too much in my mind. Desserts were solid. Can’t go wrong with fried green tea ice cream. Well, a restaurant could, but they did not. The mango mousse was also very nice. Overall would recommend this place!

A very enjoyable dinner. Attentive service, fantastic selection, and the two rolls I had of the dancing shrimp roll and Kingsley roll were really delicious and different yet balanced with the Flavors and textures. Hostess seemed very knowledgeable as I overheard her assisting other guests with selections. Wait staff also seemed to be knowledgeable about the menu items as well. Definitely would go again!

We dined here for dinner and I’m sad to say that I wasn’t impressed with our entrees. However, our King Crab roll was pretty good so I’d definitely go back to try more rolls and the rest of their sushi/sashimi options so I can update this review. They’re huge on presentation here as I’ve seen from orders from other tables. The fiancé and I both ordered the chicken ramen and it was unsatisfying to the max. The broth was basically miso soup with veggies and pieces of cut up chicken placed inside the bowl. No bueno. The service was friendly and we were checked on frequently. They have an extensive menu with Asian fusion dishes, hot and cold appetizers, soups, plus sushi and sashimi. There’s both indoor seating(tables and sushi bar) and patio seating. I’ll give it another chance in the near future…

Iron Chef House is a semi-new addition to the Mosaic District, a Chinese-owned ‘sushi’ place that offers lunch combos, appetizers, soups, salads, rolls, and teriyaki. The hubs had seen the ‘coming soon’ sign a while back, so we were both curious in checking it out when they finally opened. I ordered the Iron Chef’s Halo Sushi Roll, which was described as an Osaka-style pressed sushi that contained spicy tuna, avocado, tuna, salmon, white tuna, panko breadcrumbs, and mayo. I actually thought the rolls were pretty tasty, as it had more of a sesame oil taste to it. It was prettily-presented, too. I also tried a toro nigiri, but was a little disappointed that it wasn’t more buttery and more smooth. The hubs tried their ‘ramen,’ which you had the option to choose miso, soy sauce, chicken/shrimp/beef-based broth, with also your choice of meat(beef, shrimp, or chicken). The hubs chose the miso with the beef — the broth was actually an udon broth, on the more saltier side(you can tell that it was definitely overloaded with MSG, as we suffered the symptoms right afterwards), and filled with thin spaghetti noodles. The beef cuts were a little sketchy, as they had a weird texture to them, so I probably would suggest, if you were interested in trying it out, to go meat-less or at least try the seafood option instead. Service was pretty friendly, and the atmosphere was pretty chic. I am not sure if I’d go out of my way to come back here, but it’s an option if you’re craving for some rolls while in the area. +Iron Chef’s Halo Sushi Roll +MSG-laden soups T____T +friendly service

This is more like a 1.5 but I bumped up because the food was good. This new restaurant is in the Avalon complex. There are other restaurants in the area: Sisters Thai and an Oyster place(can’t recall the name). After drinks and apps at the lovely B-side, we decided to check out this row of new dining options. As expected Sisters Thai had a line out the door. Iron Chef was empty, so naturally we stepped inside to check on a table. The older male host asked us if we had a reservation and we did not. He looked around and told us to wait while he checked on an open table. There were only 3 other tables occupied in the entire restaurant. I felt like I was in a scene from Seinfeld. But alas, he came back and said he could seat us… this he did at a tiny 2 seater table with another 2 seater right up against us. The other 2 couples were situated in 4 seaters… and the rest of the nice roomy tables… EMPTY! On to the food, we ordered a few orders of sushi, which were standard fare(CA Roll and Salmon Skin) and a Ramen and their Bento box. All the food came out in a timely manner(not crowded tonight). Numerous staff were walking around checking on the tables(now 5 – 6 tables). NOT once did anyone try to refill our water. We had to flag someone down for more water. One thing to note, the host tried to sit another couple RIGHTNEXT to us, and they refused the table to sit at the sushi bar… again, lots of available tables, not sure why they need to be up at our faces… AGAIN, the host sat another set of diners next to us. All four of us enjoyed a convo because seriously we were all in each others faces. Overall, the food was ok. I don’t think I would drive to the Mosaic for standard Japanese food if I am close to places who offer WAY better service. I’m still in awe at the lack of hospitality and obvious decision to give us the most uncomfortable table. There was better dining options at the Mosaic, explore them first…

lunch: 3.5 stars i think people don’t know about this extra little strip over in mosaic but once the build out is complete, i think iron chef will do really well. to start, there are only a handful of places to get good sushi in the area. this restaurant is decorated very nicely inside and there is outside patio seating. we had two waiters who were very attentive and then the owner/manager checked up on us twice during our meal. they have lunch specials starting at $ 12+. i ordered a box with 3 pieces of sushi, salad, miso soup, dumplings, noodles, and an egg roll. the fish was fresh and i enjoyed it. i just wish the rest of the box didn’t have so much ‘filler’. the noodles made up for most of the box. my husband had the chirashi(his go-to), which was served on a plate. it also looked a little skimpy for the price(possibly because the plate was so big and had gigantic decorations). it had a few veggies on the side and the fish was thinly sliced. for the price i was expecting a little bit more(just in comparison to other sushi places in the area). the location is convenient for us and the service is great so we will probably be back to try the dinner.

Came here for dinner one night and ordered the sushi and sashimi combination to share. It includes 5 pieces of sashimi, 10 pieces of sushi, and 1 spicy tuna roll. Also comes with a small bowl of miso soup. The presentation is lovely; all our sashimi was placed on ice in a huge bowl and decorated with conch shells, an orchid flower, and other miscellaneous decorations. Sushi and sashimi is not bad but not the best I’ve had. Fairly fresh but can be better. Service was quick although a little uncoordinated. After ordering hot teas from one server, another would come up 5 seconds later and asked if we wanted something to drink. Also beware if it rains, the floors are very slippery!

Dropped by for dinner with hubby and a friend. It was a chic clean atmosphere. With the separation in the middle it seems intimate. Explore the menu because it isn’t just sushi. There’s a page for different entrees. I got the vegetable tempura with stir fried noodles, hubby got stirfry udon and friend got a sushi platter. We all liked our food pretty well. We also shared 3 appetizers: gyoza(really liked it), a spinach dish and yakitori(I agree with another commentator that said the chicken pieces were a bit too big). Still they were all tasty. The service is a little too eager coming by often to get the order but did leave us while eating. Cool, tasty place to eat on a date, friends and we even saw a family there.

Mosaic just got a new player in town! Dressed similarly like the rest of the square, Iron Chef House mixes modern atmosphere with American sushi. You’ll be greeted with wooden décor all around the open space, and plenty of seating available for your large party, family brunch, or a romantic date. Once construction in the area is completed, you’ll be having a grand view just outside the restaurant. Food: 3.5 stars We tried a mix between kitchen and sushi dishes. From the yakitori skewers to the specialty sushi roll. The menu is quite extensive, so take your time reading through it all. They have plenty of original rolls that you can choose from. We got the Kingsley roll, a mix of spicy tuna topped with crispy duck. It also comes with crabmeat which we skip because I’m allergic to it unfortunately. It sure is crispy, and surprisingly the duck was not overpowering at all. You can still taste the spicy tuna. The rice quality is quite good, although not as fragrant as authentic Japanese sushi rice. The sushi rolls are a bit messy on my Alaska roll(smoked salmon, avocado, and cucumber), and the rice was uneven on the pieces. Very different quality compared to the Kingsley roll. The yakitori needs a lot of love. The chicken cutlets were cut too big, leaving the center dry. I would prefer that they separate the 2 skewers into 4 smaller skewers. It would’ve absorbed the sauce better, and leave the chicken nice and crispy — what you’d look for in yakitori. Skip the age tofu. Similar to the yakitori, the tofu pieces were cut so large that you’re left with a very bland center. Also, it’s served with the sauce on the side. There isn’t much flavor to the tofu pieces itself, so you’ll have to soak it in the dipping sauce before it’s delicious. Don’t bother with this appetizer unless you’re really craving tofu for some reason. They were honest to not suggest the mochi ice cream dessert because the batch that they got from the supplier wasn’t good. Unfortunately they were out of the crêpe cakes — those are handmade in house. We went with the green tea ice cream instead and was not disappointed. Unlike pictured, it came with two scoops topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Overall quite a positive experience, but will need to come back to get a better feel of the kitchen again. Compared to other fusion restaurants in the NoVa area(hint, Sushi Prince), there is definitely room for a lot of improvement with Iron Chef House.

Bottom line up front: the food is delicious, the service is good. I will come back here again to try the rest of the menu. Iron chef house just opened a couple of days before my wife, my sister in law, and my son came in to try it. I made reservations through the Unilocal app. That process was very easy. We had never heard of the restaurant until I found it on Unilocal, but I quickly found out that there is another one in Brooklyn that is very popular. Since it was my wife’s birthday and she loves sushi, I thought it would be great to come here. I’m so glad. We did because the food was delicious. We ordered several dishes that I thought was done perfectly. We ordered the eel fried rice. The eel was perfect, with the rice at the proper consistency. It was very flavorful. We ordered the Kingsley roll. This roll was exciting for me because it had duck on it! The roll had a sweet sauce on it and the fish was very tender and flavor. My tongue was enjoying the flavors and textures. I would order again. We also ordered the sushi and sashimi combination. This dish had 6 sushi pieces with tuna, salmon, and yellow tail; 9 pieces of sashimi(3 each of tuna, salmon, and yellow tail); and a spicy tuna roll. All yum. And finally we also had the dragon roll, which was pretty normal yet delicious fare. One negative thing I’ll point out but it wasn’t a big deal. After we ordered the waitress brought two dishes to our table that we did not ordered and belonged to another table. Thankfully we were paying attention otherwise we would have been eating someone else’s food. After this happened twice, the waitress came over to us and apologized. I know everyone is new, so it wasn’t a big deal. Since we were celebrating my wife’s birthday, the manager was very nice and gave us a free fried banana for dessert. It was delicious! And it was shaped like a caterpillar! Overall our experience was very positive. The service was great and polite. And the food was delicious. Best sushi I’ve had in a while.
