Modern Optometry

I came for an exam with Dr. Schutte. He was very thorough and gave an excellent exam. I opted to also do a dilation since I hadn’t had one in several years. Overall, extremely professional exam and worth the price. You get what you pay for with any medical exam, and this hardly broke the bank while being top-​notch.

I had a pleasant experience at the eye doctor office. I did not have to wait long, but as I did, the receptionists, Katy and Rose helped me choose new glasses. They even helped me select the glasses that fit my face and highly arched eyebrows best. When it came time to ring up the bill, they even found ways to bring down the out-​of-​pocket price. Dr. Schutte did a comprehensive eye exam and prescribed what was best for my eye comfort and health. Overall, it was a very good experience.

I first came in to look at some glasses, and was pleasantly surprised with the amount of fashionable models to choose from. Since I already had an appointment scheduled at My Eye Doctor, my plan was to get my eyes examined there and then come back here to pick my new glasses.
Katy was very helpful and helped me find the one pair that i liked. Unfortunately, the prescription given to me by the other optometry place wasn’t really working for me, so I had to schedule another appointment, this time here with Dr. Joshua Schutte. He was really nice and did everything as I guess most optometrists to, but towards the end of the appointment, he put some «medical glasses» (i don’t know the actual name) on me, so I could test the lenses and see if they were really the right ones. Boy, what a difference. I could really tell if a lens would work or not, thus saving some money and ordering the right lens for me.
I had a great experience over here and highly recommend it.

I give the service five stars, and the prices one star, for an overall «okay» three star rating. In short, if your insurance coverage will pick up the tab this is a great place, but if not, yikes!
It wasn’t too difficult to get an appointment, about a week wait since I wasn’t looking for a Saturday slot. Modern Optometry is convenient and there is plenty of parking and a rear entrance that opens to the Whole Foods parking lot. Dr. Schutte was professional and the exam very thorough. After the exam I shopped for glasses, and even though I opted for a step down from the custom lenses offered, the total came to over $ 1,300. Granted, these are for progressive lenses, and single vision would be less expensive, but still quite a sticker shock in comparison to previous glasses at other like (non-​chain) optical shops. I did pass on those glasses…
To add to the bill was the exam, and based on my mistake of not obtaining a pre-​authorization, that was an added $ 200. So all together, the amount out of pocket for glasses, which last a max 2 years, would have been $ 1,500. And I suppose that would be okay, IF insurance picked up the tab, but alas, military healthcare is not a cadillac plan. Still, Dr. Schutte does a great job, he is both personable and very professional.

It had been two years since I had seen an optometrist and I figured I better get in for an appointment soon. Normally I just go to one of those run of the mill places but recently I noticed there was an Amazon Local deal for Modern Optometry. I figured I would give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised reading the awesome reviews prior to my appointment.
Katy greeted me warmly and we looked at frames right away while I was waiting to be seen by Dr. Joshua Shutte. I found it cool that they had frames especially made for asian faces as I do not have a bridge on my nose. I already had my frames picked out by the time the Dr. called me in for my appointment.
I have never had such a thorough eye exam before. An added bonus was that there was no part of the exam where you get air puffed into your eyes. Dr. Shutte was professional and friendly. He answered all of my questions and concerns.
I would definatley recommend Modern Optometry for all of your eyecare needs. I cannot wait to go pick up my new frames!

It’s been 2 years since I’ve seen an optometrist for a contact lens appointment. I was in between the two places which was this one and another place. In the end and obviously, I chose Modern Optometry because 1.) their a small business and 2.) they were close to home and they were in my coverage network (which is a plus for a broke young professional lol).
Setting up the appointment was easy and they were able to see me right away. Dr. Joshua Schutte was able to explain to me which contacts were best for my eyes and which brands my insurance was willing to pay.
All in all, I had a great experience here and I am happy I have found an optometrist for me that isn’t trying to push or persuade me to buy other merchandise.

Just went here for the first time after a pretty horrible experience at the franchise I’ve been going to for years. I’ve worn glasses and contacts for more then half my life and I’ve never had such a thorough and great appointment! The Doc is a laid back, easy to talk to guy. First off, the eye blowing test didn’t happen. Can’t remember how they tested whatever that’s for but it was far more pleasant. Also at the end of the exam the doctor put me in these «fake» glasses with my new prescription and walked me to the window and had me look around outside. Over all just little details making this truly a modern, different experience then that which I’ve had for the past 18 years of my life. I’ve recommended them to all my coworkers on my same insurance.

Wanted to update my review a couple of stars for the follow up call I got from the office. Apologetic and offered to find the information and get back to me regarding my coverage. I’d already found another doctor to take care of me by that time

Fantastic place! I needed google glass prescription and wasn’t having luck finding a place that really knew what they were doing. Then I stumbled across this place!
They were extremely nice over the phone and worked with me since I had already used my insurance for this year. The place is super cute too. The doctor even has glass! How can you say no? This is where I’m getting my glasses from here on out.

My wife and I have been traveling extensively for the past few years and I needed to update my Contact prescription. I initially picked Modern optometry due to its location in relation to where we were staying and I was truly pleased with the service I recieved. I had been using contacts for my distance vision and it was making my reading /​computer vision suffer. Josh DR Schutte) suggested some contacts and a adjusted prescription that would serve both and it has been great. I am currently working in alaska and living in Kazakhstan and my next eye visit will be in his clinic in VA

I think I’m on my fifth set of glasses from this terrific little shop… I just can’t stop!
Josh and staff are so helpful, even tweaking frames not purchased at MO for me. Expert optometry services and great frame selection – not the same old stuff. These folks go the extra mile. Conveniently located in the East Market (Whole Foods) center off Fair Lakes Circle near ⁵⁰⁄₆₆ and Fair Lakes Shopping Center makes dropping by easy.
