Dr. Trinh performed double jaw surgery on me in September 2015 to permanently treat my severe obstructive sleep apnea. Not only did it work (completely, by the time I came out of anesthesia), he and his staff could not have done a better job. I am not exaggerating to say that I had NO bleeding or pain, only extended swelling and numbness, which is completely natural, given the trauma necessitated for this surgery. Seriously, I was taking the Motrin/​Naproxyn/​Tylenol for swelling, but not pain; never touched anything stronger than NSIDs. The workups, the modeling, and the follow-​ups went smoothly and awesomely, from the billing to the actual visits. I cannot recommend Dr. Trinh enthusiastically enough for major oral surgery. Seriously, check out LaFort I Osteotomy or Bi-​Sagital Osteotomy on the internet (the videos on Youtube are AWESOME, but not if you have a weak stomach… you’ve been warned), so you can’t possibly do better than Dr. Trinh! I have placed my life in his capable hands, and would do so again in an instant. He is, without hyperbole, the best.

Dr. Trinh extracted all four of my wisdom teeth two weeks ago, and despite all of my fears and my low tolerance for pain I can say I had a fast and smooth recovery. Dr. Trinh and his staff helped me pick the best option and gave me plenty of information and support through the entire process. I’m so thankful they got recommended to me each appointment felt specifically designed for me, not a generic appointment for each patient. I definitely recommend them, and I am so grateful for Dr. Trinh and his staff.

Without a doubt this is a 5-​star practice! Dr. Trinh and his staff are incredible. They are so kind and knowledgeable! The office is absolutely beautiful. It belongs in a magazine; it’s gorgeous! So thankful to have undergone implant surgery at such a well-​rounded place!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted yesterday and I barely have any pain/​swelling (I’m only using ice packs/​ibuprofen!) Dr. Trinh did a great job! I was a bit nervous since this was my first time under general anesthesia, but him and his team made me feel very comfortable all throughout! Dr. Trinh explained everything in great detail and made sure I didn’t have any questions unanswered. He also gave me ice cream to-​go (Ben & Jerry’s is right underneath) and gave me a follow-​up call last night to make sure I was doing well! You can’t beat service like that! I’ll definitely recommend Dr. Trinh to all of my friends for their oral surgery needs!

I highly recommend this Doctor’s office! I got all 4 wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Trinh. He did a great job and my recovery from surgery was extremely easy.
He & the entire staff were kind and accommodating — and when I was nervous for surgery they were understanding and supportive!
Dr. Trinh was also easy to reach and always available by phone (even after hours) when I had questions about the surgery. He is friendly, down-​to-​earth, and makes sure each of your needs as a patient are met.
This is a great office; I wish all doctors could be this good! If I needed to go back to an oral surgeon, I would hands-​down choose him again! Although now that all my wisdom teeth are out, there is (almost regretfully) likely to be no need :)

I needed an emergency procedure after a bicycle accident. It was my first time being at this type of facility and getting oral surgery.
Positives and first impressions:
— Very soothing ambiance in the waiting room.
— The warm fuzzy blanket that was wrapped around me in the operating chair was a nice touch.
— Courteous, friendly and professional across the board when we interacted with the team members.
— Dr. Trinh is clear in his communication during the office visits and procedure.
— I really appreciated the followup call from Dr. Trinh after the initial procedure.
I’m sure the office has many patients — but Dr. Trinh and the team made me feel special and they took really great care of me. I didn’t feel like just another patient. I felt like they really cared about me and concerned about my injuries and they wanted to make sure I was ok.
My journey to recovery is almost complete — so far I’m really happy with the work that Dr. Trinh performed to fix my teeth. The results from the surgery has been very positive, and I’ve experience minimal pain.
I was scared and new to the whole experience, but I couldn’t have been in better hands.

Had a very pleasant experience regarding all four of my wisdom teeth removal.
Dr. Doriot did the surgery. He is a very personable doc answering all my questions and making me feel comfortable before and after the surgery (I was knocked out during the surgery). He did not push or even recommend me to opt for any particular kind of anesthesia, only quoted me stats about pros and cons of each. He also called me the night after the surgery to make sure I didn’t have any concerns.
I would highly recommend this place for their professional and personable care.

Caveat: Unfortunately, I rarely give away five stars, however, I find four stars to be exceptional.
I am a current patient of the Northern VA Center: Oral, Facial & Implant Surgery. I am seeing Dr. A. McCormick. Okay, so for my first visit I was amused to find a very nicely decorated office, think noveau artsy modern deco, short of playing Stereolab. I liked it, it was well put together. The staff there is very pleasant to talk to and everything was layed out up front. I will keep my procedure to myself, as it personal. Moreover, I met with Dr. McCormick who was more than upfront and very personable. I seek certain qualities in business professionals and he met and fully exceeded my expectations. This is rather hard to do as I meet with many bureaucrats and find most to be either shady, or they are honest. As an analytical type, I tend to not trust people for their fancy facades or pseudo personalities.
On my second visit (the procedure), the staff was still cordial and treated me great. The procedure went exactly as described and I am currently recovering nicely. During the procedure, I was brought to the room and given a warm (as it was actually heated) blanket. Being a rather tense guy, this did help calm me down. And before I knew it, the procedure was over. I was brought over to the next room where a nice young lady went over a few things, she even included my wife in the conversation.
I will recommend this business to my associates, and recommend them to others.
Since my procedure is not entirely complete, I will write updates if needed.

I absolutely love love love the NVC staff and Dr. Doriot. They provided the best service from any medical professional I’ve ever been to from billing to care. If I could give them 6 stars, I would.
Scheduling: Quick and easy. Laura, who took the appointment got me in within 2 – 3 weeks.
Office: Set in the Fairfax Commons Shopping area, the place is nicely situated with tons of available parking. The décor the office done in modern, dark, natural tones which made one feel more at ease. They also offer teas and coffee which was also very nice.
Consultation: Really efficient. I wish all medical practioners followed Dr. Doriot’s model. I met with three people that day — a staff memeber, Dr. Doriot, and the office/​billings manager. We discussed the procedure in Dr. Doriot’s office which I personally liked. Andrew, explained the basics, Dr. Doriot, went more in depth and did a quick examination, answered all of my questions, and finally Brenda, the billings manager did the actual breakdown of the bill, explained they would send in their estimates and that Aetna would contact me with what they would cover.
The actual surgery — two wisdom teeth removals with LOCAL anesthesia. The surgery went better than I could have dreamed. The room was cold so they provided me with a warm blanket. They had relaxing music playing in the room but I opted to listed to my ipod. Dr. Doriot came in and was friendlier than ever. I got this topical numbing gel and injections. They left the room, allowing the numbing to take into effect — which again, I thought was nice, because whenever I had some kind of numbing done on my mouth, my dentist would just sit there and wait, which made me feel awkward and worried that we weren’t giving enough time for the numbing to begin.
45 minutes later my teeth were removed. No issues what so ever. I barely felt the pressure. I was actually surprised at one point when he went from one side to the other because I had expected to feel something. Nope!
Afterwards I was led to a post-​op waiting room. Gloria explained thoroughly what I should expect/​do. Andrew came in after Gloria and reiterated what Gloria said and scheduled a follow up. I then received a cute takeout box with gauze and instructions.
Recovery was great. I initially canceled my follow up but then thought better of it and rescheduled. Laura was so nice about my indecisiveness which I highly appreciated.
All in all I couldn’t rave more about Dr. Doriot. Loved the logistical setup. Pricing was NOT BAD AT ALL. I went to 5 other oral surgeons and received estimates. Out of the five, the NVC was midrange but you get a lot of perks — an extremely friendly staff, excellent care, with a highly efficient process.

If you need an oral surgeon, Dr. Doriot is your man.
He definitely has the knowhow and the skill set to get through some of the most complicated procedures. And he’s there if you need him post-​op, period. Not like other doctors who disappear once the check cashes in. The only reason I am giving Dr. Doriot a 4 start is for two main reasons. 1) As laid back and cool he is, he needs to slow it down a tiny tiny bit when in post-​op consultation. The energy and urgency is good but make sure to stop and observe the pain too. 2). Don’t let the patient feel like they are getting ripped off with the billing through avoidable mistakes and not being proactive when it’s your turn to pay (refund). Number two is really not his fault, but more the person handling the billing side of things.
For me, it was extracting all four of my wisdom teeth, two impacted and wrapped around nerves deep inside my jaw and the other two resting comfortably in my sinuses (Let this be a lesson to all who are putting off their wisdom teeth extractions). From the start, the staff was very nice and professional. Pre-​op session went through all the options, possible complications, complete with a nice lady to start the billing.
The day of operation (I chose to go under), they were again, nice and well prepared. Even a nice warm blanket to cover you while they go through the motions till you pass out. I had close to zero swelling (although he did put me on some steroids to reduce swelling) and I was back to almost 80% by 4 – 5 days.
The only complication I had was that one of my upper extractions perforated my sinus cavity (not a feeling you want to have) so I called him the day after the operation which happened to be on a holiday weekend. I left a message and he called back within minutes and prescribed some antibiotics to avoid any sinus infections. I was impressed.
Given the stats for my age and seeing other people suffering for a long time post extractions, I feel like I got a great deal.
Bottom line, Dr. Doriot is one hell of a skilled surgeon with a great understanding of customer service. Oh and if thing that your teeth really care, he has very nicely decorated office too.
However, do pay close attention to how your insurance and billing is handled. They will give you an estimate and charge the balance upfront. Once the insurance handles the claim (in my case, it was almost 95% of it), make sure they refund the balance they charged you. I didn’t like the fact that I had to call them in order to remind them to send my refund. Also the billing person kept filing the dental claim to my health insurance side of the company instead of their dental side which took some additional time to sort out. Again, nothing to do with the doctor and his service but it is something that comes along wit it.

This is my 1^st Day post-​op, from the removal of 5 wisdom teeth (an extra half-​formed tooth on my upper right).
After going to the dentist for the first time in five years (no insurance), I was informed that I needed to have my wisdom teeth pulled. I had my consultation appointment six months ago and learned about the risks/​procedure. Everyone was very professional and helpful, including Dr. Doriot. Yes, the office is stylishly decorated (by Dr. Doriot’s wife, a nurse told me) and has nice artworks on the walls and books about contemporary and modern art in the waiting room. The staff was very flexible as I changed my appointment twice before I actually had my teeth extracted. The staff was nice enough to call my prescriptions into CVS for me the week before the surgery.
Fast forward to yesterday: I was a nervous wreck about going under general anesthesia, the possible complications, my recovery, etc. etc. etc. The staff was very helpful and assuring, and of course, once the gas hit me it was all downhill. I woke up in recovery groggy, numbed, and a mouthful of gauze, but not in as much pain as I’ve expected (knocking on all the wood and faux-​wood in my apartment). It took about 12 hours for the local anesthesia to completely wear off, during which time half my tongue registered everything as «hot» (weird). Even though I was prescribed narcotics, I haven’t taken them yet, and though I’ve taken with the OTC Advil. Dr. Doriot called me from home in the evening to check up on me, reassured me that my residual numbness was normal, and to see how I’d reacted to the GA (I was completely fine-​no nausea or vomiting).
Though I didn’t care at the time I left the office (I was out-​of-​it), the post-​op instructions booklet has been really helpful, and answered all my questions about what to expect over the next couple of days.
Short Review:
Everyone was very helpful, nice, and professional during my consultation, throughout my procedure, dealing with insurance and billing, and my post-​op recovery has been augmented with the literature they gave me. For such an unpleasant procedure, the team and Dr. Doriot made it as easy and positive an experience as possible.

When I arrived at «The NVC» after spending the preceding days at other dentists and specialists offices I thought I was in the wrong office. Nothing like any other dental or health care office I’d been to. The furniture was comfortable with an eclectic array of books/​periodicals. Although the customary ‘wait for 30 minutes in the lobby prior to being seen’ didn’t happen here, I wouldn’t have cared.
All of the staff I met were very friendly and knowledgeable. I had my x-​ray taken and met with Dr. Doriot shortly after that. Again not what I had expected. He was straight forward and answered my questions without too much Latin, he really put me at ease. I get very anxious during anything dental related and honestly I wasn’t the least bit uncomfortable in this office. Even with my x-​ray on the screen, talking about the oral surgery and Dr. Doriot wearing the white coat I kind of forgot I was even in a dental office. Afterward I met with the numbers person who already had everything figured with my insurance. I got my prescriptions and paperwork and left just as calm as I was going in.
When I returned for the procedure I was brought back without much of wait. We went over the procedure again and the possible complications etc. and I was brought into the OR. I will spare readers the details but I recall the following:
A warm blanket
Not much pain (I was awake)
Not putting on my headphones because their music was more interesting than what I had.
I moved to the recovery area, was briefed and sent packing with my Chinese to-​go box of gauze, cards etc.
Later that night I got a phone call from Dr. Doriot himself to follow up with me. This is on top the emails I had already received at home explaining the recovery etc. I thought it was a nice touch and something I was not expecting.
I highly recommend Dr. Doriot and The NVC and actually look forward to going back!

The staff was very nice, Dr. Doriot did a great job… it’s the billing I have an issue with. We have excellent insurance with normally very little out-​of-​pocket expenses. We were told we’d have to pay $ 150 up front, so we did, then they said they’d let us know how much the insurance would not cover and that amount would be due the day of surgery. So they went to our insurance told us the amount they’d cover and we paid the remaining balance on the day of surgery. Surgery went well.
Suddenly we’re getting billed an additional nearly $ 500!!! Had we known our out-​of-​pocket expense would be nearly $ 1200, we would have gone elsewhere. I know friends whose surgery was $ 1200 total… our insurance said they paid about $ 1700…
So basically to sum it up… THIS DR. WAY OVER CHARGES!!!

I finally faced my fears and set up an appointment with Dr. Doriot to have all four wisdom teeth removed. I must say that I’m deathly uncomfortable with dentists/​surgeons of all backgrounds– ick! Any and all fears were quickly diminished with both staff and Dr. Doriot.
If at first the swanky lobby area didn’t win me over, the consultation office (yes you read correctly, office!) definitely won me over. I love the fact that I wasn’t uncomfortably seated in the dentist chair to talk over the procedure and instead was able to be seated face-​to-​face with the dentist’s assistant and the dentist himself to iron out all the details of what was to come. They were patient, welcoming, and very accommodating.
More importantly the procedure went better than expected. I took the required antibiotics to ward off any infection but I didn’t have to take a single prescribed painkiller. I only had to take over-​the-​counter Motrin for pain! I had my procedure on a Friday morning, paid a visit to the zoo Sunday morning, and was back to work on Monday with minimal swelling. I couldn’t believe that after having four teeth removed (with two being impacted) that all I had to take was over-​the-​counter Motrin. AMAZING! I’d def recommend Dr. Doriot.

Where to start? I could have five updates to this point for Dr. Doriot’s practice at NVC. I am unfortunately a «special» case that has not been an easy road. Two years ago I went to Dr. Doriot after what was essentially a jaw dislocation that spiraled downhill from there.
In-​house xray equipment allowed him to get a look at my jaw structure and joint condition. Diagnosis, Anterior Disc Displacement with Reduction (now believe it’s without… whatever). Conservative treatment ensued and I began to amass a team of oral, dental and neuro specialists to pinpoint the source of increasingly unbearable pain. For such a complex joint and looking at the big picture (age, severity, etc), I appreciate the cautious approach. I’ve heard horror stories about oral surgeons wanting to go and fix things under the knife. No thank you.
Always flexible with scheduling when I have flare-​ups, his staff knows me well (unfortunately) and always work with me to get an appointment. He must be sick of treating me, although he’s dedicated to finding a solution — without surgery.
Last week I went in for Botox therapy to alleviate pressure on what we now know to be degenerating discs in my jaw (from MRI). He gave me literature to review and didn’t pressure me to pursue treatment I wasn’t sure about.
When I sought a second opinion from another oral surgeon in the area, he contacted the other doctor as he has every other specialist that has been involved in my ongoing treatment.
The procedure rooms are as comfortable (and stylish) as the reception area. They gave me a toasty, heated blanket to keep me warm during the Botox injections. I almost forgot about my phobia of needles. Feeling better — at least increased function so I can eat more than soup and the equivalent of nursing home food.
As unpleasant as the need for his services are, it’s always been a great experience. Brownie points: he does Operation Smile, too.

Dr. Doriot II took out all four of my wisdom teeth. The surgery/​recovery was way easier then anyone else I’ve seen who’s had them out. They treat you like they know you and not like another insurance claim. Their office is amaizing. Talking to the doctor during the consultation was alot of relief, he really knows what hes talking about. Afterwards I had no complications, no swelling almost, and no pain. Best doctor I’ve ever had.
