Avoid at all costs! Ordered chicken with cashews. The chicken was all chopped tendons and it did not taste like chicken. Not one bit. So disgusting I couldn’t stomach even two bites. I called and asked for either a different order or my money back and the lady on the phone yelled at me that they were too busy with other orders and complained that«everyone else like chicken cashew». I don’t care that everyone enjoys trash. Red Pepper, your reputation is damaged.

We had been years ago with our family. Food was decent. My mothers law ordered in Chinese. It was great. Went back again. Ordered spicy wontons, steamed meat dumplings, spring rolls and hot and sour soup. We were disappointed. Neither the dumplings nor the wontons were hot. The spring rolls stated on the menu to have beef and shrimp had neither. The hot and sour soup was spicy but no tang. It also had no beef in it as was stated on the menu. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed.

We love Red Pepper! Great service, fast delivery, always some extra stuff and very friendly stuff! Love their hot and sour soup, kung pao and duck! It is as good as it can get :)))

My husband’s family has been going to Red Pepper for the past 20 years. The food is consistently good and the service is very friendly. The atmosphere is usually low key and calm in the restaurant making it a great place to take little ones. Most commonly ordered by our family is the Peking duck, General Tso’s chicken, pad thai, orange beef and the house fried rice. For anyone who has food allergies, the kitchen is more than happy to help create dishes that fit with what you are able to eat as well. The family eats here(dine in and delivery) probably 2x a month. Our little one loves going and the staff loves interacting with him. Overall, a great local Chinese restaurant!

Had dinner here and was disappointed. The waitress was busy, and didn’t take time to take down the order properly. Even after repeating my order three times, it was still messed up. I think they just can’t handle it when there are too many people. My sister found hair in her food! And, oh, after all of this… WEDIDN’T EVENGETANAPOLOGY. Three strikes, you’re out.

We were a bit skeptical about eating here after reading some of the bad reviews but we’re so glad we didn’t let them stop us. We were nicely greeted as we entered but sat immediately as we were also the only customers eating. Wait staff was very friendly and food was awesome. Other customers did come in and there was several carry outs that came in. Food was cooked perfectly and even took some home. Can’t wait to go back.

My family and I had dinner here last night and were quite disappointed. The food was flavorless. According to a previous review, the ownership changed hands recently. We should have eaten here before then. My wife said«Never again». Our server was accommodating though. I do hope they get a visit from Chef Ramsey. They need help badly and soon.

Great service since the first time I visited almost a year ago. By the 3rd visit, the waitress remember what I like drinking, what I like and don’t on my food. Service has always been great. Food has been served exactly as I ordered it, I am a picky eater! We usually order Singapore noodles. Husband tried it and loved it too! Will return weekly.

Ownership has changed, and the food isn’t the same as it once was which is a shame.

Worst Chinese food in Fairfax. My scallops in oyster sauce were watered down, the sesame noodles were pathetic, just seeds and oil and peanut butter dumped on top. Avoid these guys!

The food is good, however the service isn’t welcoming. I always feel rushed to finish eating.

This restaurant has been around for a very long time. So maybe I was expecting better. And anyway, I find I always enter a restaurant just wanting to like it! But… Food was OK — tho’ the dark sauce seemed extra spicy. I might get food there again in a pinch since it’s near where I live — but I’ll try ordering the white sauce instead. Anyway, on the rainy Saturday night I was there, there wasn’t enough staff. There were 4 or 5 tables with eat-in customers(including my family) plus they had take-out customers and they were making deliveries. Just two ladies were working in the dining area — including one taking orders over the phone. They were both literally jogging from place to place, but service was nevertheless slow and I ended up moving our emptied dishes to the next(unused) table just cuz I got tired of looking at them. The kitchen was apparently having issues too. Some take-out customers were waiting around a while and didn’t look too pleased. And I overheard one phone call from a delivery customer who was asking when to expect their order. So I dunno — maybe they just got caught short-staffed this one night. But for this visit, a generous 2-stars.

Live next door and if we don’t have time to cook we order here. They cook things fresh and pickup is always ready on time. Quality of food is good(veggies are always fresh and crunchy) and the prices are not bad and staff is friendly.

Not sure that I get the bad reviews — my friend and his husband introduced me to Red Pepper, since it’s one of their favorites. Now my mom also loves it, and a combined group of friends consistently enjoys it, too. I can only really vouch for the sweet and sour chicken(which is fantastic and better than PF Chang’s), but my group(of six or seven regulars) have only found one or two dishes that they haven’t cared for over several years. I did stop using the chopsticks — they were low-quality, and occasionally had an unpleasant smell. The waitresses are very nice(and remember what those of us with a regular order want), and they serve complimentary orange slices with the fortune cookies. The prices are also very reasonable, and the delivery speed and quality are great.

No the best chinese restaurant there is but I get food from here on a regular basis and at least 30 times over the past couple years. I just wanted to write because I have never had anything close to a bad experience. We get take out chinese food for a average price. The food here is better than others in the area so we use it as our go to delivery. When we go in it is never crowded and the servers are very friendly.

Never Again. Pros: –Friendly Server who checked on us often(she gets 5 stars). –Complimentary oranges and fortune cookies at the end of our meal. Cons: –The food was not flavorful. –The 3 of us ended up having bad stomach aches after eating here The close to 2 star rating on Unilocal and empty restaurant on a Saturday night didn’t stop us from trying this place out. Hopefully you’ll be smarter than us and go elsewhere.

Wow. lots of bad reviews. I am a big fan of kung pao chicken. Ever since I moved here to Virginia I have been looking for good kung pao chicken. Why is it so hard to find a good one? I used to get it often at a place called YenCheng on main street many years ago. They changed owners and I have no need to drive out there anymore. After trying Kung Pao chicken at several other chinese places which all were HORRIBLE, red pepper’s Kung Pao is VERYGOOD. I meann VERYVERY Good. Thats all I like from their. Their hot n sour soup is mediocre. Not too sure how their other dishes are, but I have tried their spring onion beef(thumbs down), their duck(blah)…but their kung pao chicken? THEBEST ive had in NOVA

Headed to Red Pepper for lunch because a few of us were craving Chinese. The place was empty… too bad it’s right next to Tony’s because I think it doesn’t get much business being next to the popular pizza joint. We ordered off the lunch menu and the regular menu. The waitress was hardly speaking English but still very nice. I ordered Spicy Tofu like a Szechuan style. It was pretty good but it was just a bowl of tofu with spicy sauce — no veggies. I just didn’t like the place seems a bit run down and they were lacking in vegetable items on the lunch menu so I had to order from the regular menu and they weren’t able to substitute or accommodate my request. It’s probably a good idea when you aren’t packed with people to maybe be a little more flexible, just a suggestion. So yeah, after reading the other reviews on Unilocal.I would say keep on driving and find another Chinese restaurant. I hate to give such horrible reviews but I guess you have to be honest.

I stopped by here on my way home to pick up some carry out because they had dropped a menu in my mailbox and I figured I would try a new place. Ugh… I’m gonna try really hard to pretend I didn’t JUST read James B.‘s review… Because I ate my food… I tried their wonton soup– the broth was really strong and oddly colored– I’ve never seen a broth look so yellow-orange. It wasn’t anything special, I wouldn’t get it again. The dumplings were decent, but again– nothing special. I tried the beef lo mein(hey, I play it safe when I try places for the first time…) that was actually good. It made up for my lackluster Chinese lunch I had last week. My experience wasn’t bad and I will base my rating on that since I didn’t experience anything bad… but James’ review scares me way too much. I’m not sure I will go here again based on that…
