Justin was an angel. Within 2 days, my dad died and my kid’s school was having a bike day that week(I thought). She didn’t have a bike. I was a mess, the kid was scared to get on a bike and they were going to close before we could get her to the shop. In my grief stricken mind I had to get her on a bike and have her feel positive about it, all in that night. I know, crazy, right? But grief does that to people. Justin could have rolled his eyes at me or blown me off as another bourgeoisie Marin Mom. But he didn’t. He was calm and gently told me the bike she might want to try would be put away last, that it would be out after closing. We got the kid there after just after closing. The bike was there, Justin was reassuring and friendly. Sometimes in life when everything is upside down, it’s the kind gestures that mean so much, that help you through.

45 miles into a wet and hilly ride I had completely worn through my brakes. To the point of scratching my rims. I was embarrassed and ashamed it had gotten that bad. I needed a quick fix — I was still 20 miles from home. I went into Sunshine and they instantly started helping out, took a look at some other adjustments I needed, and sent me on my way after just a few minutes. I left happy and impressed. I’ll go out of my way to get them to work on my bike in the future.

Full Fledged Fan here. I’m a local cyclist and bought my son and daughters first bikes at this shop. The help was great and they made it clear we could come back for adjustments as needed. They nailed it the first time so no need. Since then I’ve purchased a road bike and mountain bike and another for my oldest son(he grew out of the first one). First off, the deal they provided on a new Trek Fuel ex 9 was unbeatable(online or other shops). We all shop around these days, but was nice to be able to support a local business with great employees and owner without having to pay more which I would have been willing to do just to support a local shop. For my sons most recent bike purchase, they were very patient and helpful in our test rides and modifications to make his bike right. As a family, we have now purchased six bikes from this shop and every experience has been a good one. I also like the no BS repair shop service, they fix what you want without upselling and they do a solid job. Highly recommend this shop for local peeps. –Brandon and Family

The best bike shop in the area. There are tons of good places in Fairfax, but I believe this one is my favorite spot. They have the highest-end equipment and bike builds, and they specialize in Trek and Ibis bikes. Sunshine Bikes always has new gear in and accessories and things you probably don’t even know you need yet, as the sport progresses. The staff is very accommodating and I have had a few odd requests(like trying to build my own platform pedal pins from cutting small threaded screws. This turned out to not work but it was nice knowing they were willing to give it the effort. I also was able to request an Ibis shirt without paying for shipping, as I would have by buying directly from the bike manufacturer’s website). They also sale bike passes to Camp Tamarancho here, and have a ton of bike maps of the area and you can tell that the staff are actual riders. I adore the location and it feels like the heart of bike culture when I visit here. The shop is small but has an unmatched charm. Some other bike stores are bigger and more empty around Marin, but they don’t even have the same selection as here nor the quality of bikes. All in all it almost matches my all-time favorite bike shop in Kirkland, Washington(Kirkland bikes). Also, there are probably some better spots in Whistler, BC, but for this area Sunshine is king!

I was riding Tamarancho park near by when I blew out the side wall of my tier. I tried another store before coming to this one, they tried to sell me something I didn’t need nor wanted. When I got to Sunshine I was pleasantly surprised! Great prices, fast service(literally 10 min to change a tier and fill it with tubeless sealant), knowledgable sales people and a great dog to keep you company :-) If you’re in that area, I strongly recommend paying them a visit! Thanks again Sunshine Bicycle Center!

I have been a happy patron of Sunshine since I bought my first store bought mountain bike, #23 Otis Guy, way back in the day. Martin, the owner, has always been an excellent source of information, support and advice. Recently, after having my front fork rebuilt at a local(friend recommended) shop and still having the same problem, Martin suggested sending it Fox for a rebuild. He flatly said they don’t mess with trying to resolve it; Fox makes it Fox will fix it. Couldn’t have been more happy than the first ride after and it is still performing like a champ. I just got my cyclocross bike back from a tune up(as I commute on this bike it is quite important) and once again couldn’t be happier — smooth, silent and works perfectly. Gordon did the work and I just want to say, once again, Thank You! No other bike shop will do it for me.

This is a great bike shop. I needed someone to look at my bike after I got in a wreck in SF. I contacted their service department through email and I talked to Martin, who I believe is the owner. I gave him a day that worked best for me and he made it happen. We looked at the bike together and he pointed out what I should do, besides the obvious chain and dérailleur work. He told me he was going to need it a little longer than he thought so he kept it overnight. The next day I get a call at 10:30 and everything was fixed! I feel like their customer service was terrific, they didn’t waste my time by making me wait weeks out in advance for a service and they promptly finished my bike so I could get back on the road again. While I was in their I was impressed by the bikes and accessories they had. I’ll definitely be buying more product from them in the future.

After a wee bit of a rocky start to service — 3 visits to replace brakes and rear tire(due to some miscommunication/misunderstandings on both service and my side) Sunshine came through with flying colors. Tony fixed me up with a great tire at the right price and even threw in the extra labor of swapping out an undesirable part for my trouble. I’m riding away happy with a smooth, fast wheels and precision stopping power. All the service people at Sunshine were very friendly and straightforward. And Tony came across very honest and helpful. Would definitely recommend this shop for service or a new ride. To avoid any headaches for you and the Sunshine team — be sure you are clear on what you want done. In hindsight I would have just asked for a written work order/estimate so that I could have confirmed that the service rep and I were on the same page. I would have also had him show me the tire he had in mind before having it installed. Common sense — but it’s easy to fall into a lull of just trusting the experts to know what you want. ;).

All the way back to my BMX racing career Sunshine has been there for my family. Martin has been amazing to work with as my Mountain Bike addiction has grown. I mainly go there for service now and drive from Novato and feel it’s worth the drive for piece of mind. They change staff but seem to keep a high level of quality people. My only nitpick is that I wish they carried Giant bikes but I won’t hold that against them at all. Without a doubt the best bike store in Marin county.

These guys are awesome. Have rented Mtn bikes from them twice, and in addition to being very helpful about trails and local knowledge, this last time I rented they went above and beyond. About 2 hours into the ride my buddy hit a rock and punctured the tire. We were able to patch it with some air still left in the tire, but the c02 cartridge they packed didn’t have a puncture tool — so we couldn’t air it back up. We ended up having to cut our ride short and went back to the shop. We told the guys what happened, not expecting too much — but they totally did us a solid and comp’d our rentals! We’ll definitely be back! If you’re interested in renting in the area you can’t go wrong with Sunshine.

This bike shop has been good to me. I was looking to get into the MTB scene and demoed a couple bikes before decided to go with one of their bikes that had been demoed the previous year. It was just what I was looking for so I was stoked. The sales guys/girls are great, especially Lyle and the girl who works on Sat… I forget her name. The owner(I think) even helped me out with the BB when it was being noisy one day. Excellent selection of Gu too. Def worth checking out for sales or service… and THE place to go to get your Tamarancho pass and maps!

I like this bike shop. I bought my bike(and other retail items) here. I don’t think they are the cheapest, but if you’re considering shopping here based on price, you’re missing the value proposition. They more than meet my expectations on service. Recently, I bought my husband the Continental grand prix tires and on his first ride the tire blew out. They took in the busted tire and had the Continental rep look at it. As good faith, they refunded my purchase –I’m not sure any Amazon seller would have done the same. Erik is super friendly and helpful. And despite the fact that Lyle popped a wheelie on my bike before I bought it, I like him anyway.

I had a slow leak on my rear wheel so I went to Sunshine. I paid $ 7 for the new tube and $ 7 for labor. The technician replaced the tube, but didn’t find the piece of glass that caused the slow leaks(including one that left me stranded about 10 miles later). My friend found the glass within 90 seconds on the road afterwards. The technician should have found the glass. $ 14 for a tube swap seems pricey, but to not do it correctly, is not ok.

Had a pretty crumby experience here yesterday… Was having some tech problems with my brakes when prepping to go up Tamarancho and I figured I’d stop in here for them to help have a look. You’d have thought I asked the guy to cross the Sahara. He «helped» for 2 minutes by doing something that did nothing to fix the problem, then asked me for a couple bucks. Unfriendly and unwelcoming. This was my first real experience with this shop so I hate to give one star based on one incident but I doubt I’ll ever go back. If you need help in the area go 2 miles down the street to Cesear’s in San Anselmo. He fixed me up in 10 minutes and was a whole lot nicer about it.

I’ve been coming here for a while now. They do some really good work. I’m also a firm believer in supporting local shops but when that local shop takes advantage of you it just sucks. They charge $ 2.00 for gels. The same gels which sell for half this price at other bike shops.

I love Sunshine Bicycle Center. We’ve purchased and serviced all our bikes here and they have been nothing but fantastic. They know their stuff. I can see why it’s the go to place in Marin County. I’m open to trying new stores so I checked out the bike place down the street(FC) and the owner there was almost hostile toward us. It was scary. So we are sticking with the tried and true — Sunshine. Many of my son’s friends have worked there and they have nothing but praise for the place as well. Glad they are just down the street from us!

Great selection in a small place. Huge stock of hard to find parts at a reasonable price. While this isn’t my primary shop, it is an excellent shop with excellent service. Highly recommended.

An easy six stars for these guys. Fixed the broken spoke that interrupted my ride on a busy Saturday quickly and for a lot less that I thought they’d charge.
