They just recently changed their name from todai but i really enjoy eating here when it isnt too crowded. For the price of the buffet i think its really worth it

This has been my least favorite restaurant. From when it was Todai, I had hopes that it would be better since there seemed to be some changes… I was wrong. The sushi was below average. The ramen was sub-par. The«hot» food was mediocre at best. I did not expect much for the service, knowing that’s it’s an all you can eat. I was extremely unimpressed yet again.

If this weren’t a buffet but a normal restaurant I’d give it a lower rating but the quality is pretty good considering it is a buffet. I came here before about five or six years ago when it was called«Todai». I was in Fair Oaks mall and had a lot of time in my hands and was starving so I thought I’d stop by for lunch. The interior is just like I remember it. They have a wide variety of sushi and all kinds of stir fry and seafood. They even have okonomiyaki, which is a seafood and cabbage based pancake. Lunch is a better deal in terms of price, which is $ 18. I have never been here for dinner because of the high price. Like I said the quality is good considering it’s a buffet but I’m not willing to pay a $ 25 for it. I here they have a lot more options during dinner and weekend hours so I might stop by this place agin if I’m at Fair Oaks mall during those times.

Important to set expectations: Really good for a sushi buffet(no sushi stink, proportioned rice). For sushi in general, just okay. I prefer here to Yuraku in MD.* The quality of sushi is good! The salmon and tuna nigri were a delight! The rice to sashimi ratio was well proportioned!(I find that sushi buffets usually go heavy on the rice) The downside, however, is that the rice sucks. It’s overcooked and super smushed together, making it really tacky and distracting from the good sushi. It’s similar to dduk(Korean rice cake) consistency =/That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the freshness and quality of the sushi! Their service is good, too! Fast water refills + polite, attentive servers. My only complaint is that the restaurant felt body temperature, which is meh, but understandable because it was peak hours(packed) and 100′ outside(maybe they didn’t adjust the thermostat accordingly) For ~$ 20/person for all you can eat sushi, I’m happy with the quality of food and service and consider it worth the money. Also, the general consensus among diners was that the sushi and food did improve with the name change. *Why do I prefer here to Yuraku? Because Yuraku’s fish stinks and I can’t get past that(for lunch buffet at least). Also, their rice to sashimi ratio in their nigri is insane– I don’t know if they overkill on the rice to distract from the fish stink or to fill you up, but it’s 2 too many reasons for me to ever go out of my way for them.

I come here once in a while with friends or family and for some reason, I feel like the quality of their food has gone down. Sushi tastes like rubber and very cheap like i got it at Walmart. The other food is extra greasy and/or fried. The servers are always kind and sweet. When I first started coming here when it was called«Todai,» the sushi was exceptional and definitely worth my money. Once it changed to «Sushi On», 30 $ per person felt like I was getting cheated on. The quality isn’t what it used to be which is sad considering I used to love going here. As well as all my friends and family.

Good sushi buffet(originally known as Todai) with a good selection of sushi, nigiri and various poke options. Their hot food offerings are pretty good, with tempura and traditional Chinese and Korean entrees.

A colleague of mine and I dined here about two or three weeks ago. Interestingly they had actually just changed the name of the restaurant, and when we asked about it the reason was because the association with the former name limited in their ability to expand the menu to include a lot of the hibachi items that are now on the menu. Anyway, the main reason that we went there was for the all you can eat sushi. I was a little surprised at the cost that was charged for this, being from the Northeast most of the all-you-can-eat sushi places up here tend to be in the $ 20-$ 30 range, so the approximately $ 40 per person charge was a bit of a sticker shock. The sushi was pretty good, not the best sushi I have ever had, not even the best sushi I’ve ever had at an all-you-can-eat sushi place. But the inclusion of additional items to their menu, as well as the crepes for dessert, made up for this.

I don’t know why Sushi On has such low reviews. For a sushi buffet, it’s pretty good. It’s better than the sushi buffet at Yuraku(Germantown, MD). It used to be called Todai and has the same layout and the same variety of food items. Actually, they might have a bigger sushi/nigiri selection. The fish seems fresh and they weren’t skimping on the ingredients and portion sizes. The sushi rolls have way too many things inside and on top, but I love the sashimi and nigiri. They’re slow in refilling the sashimi plate so keep an eye out because it runs out fast! They also have raw oysters and snow crab legs! The snow crab legs are cold though, but I’m okay with that. There is also a udon/ramen/shabu shabu bar where you can pick your own ingredients. The udon is not bad. My friend says the ramen broth was flavorless. I’m not a fan of their cooked food items(fried rice, vegetable gyoza, crab cakes, lo mein, etc). It’s about $ 30 per person for the dinner buffet. If you’re going to pay that much, don’t fill yourself up with that cheap stuff! Stick with the sushi and seafood! Remember to save room for dessert! They have fruit, mini cakes, crepes, ice cream, and an espresso machine. The restaurant, for the most part, seems pretty clean. My only gripe is that the bottom of the plates are sticky. The servers are quick to remove any dirty dishes. *If you go on your birthday, show them your ID and they will give you a free dinner voucher for your next visit, with an accompanying paid diner. Basically, it’s a Buy One, Get One birthday special.

Originally Todai, Sushi On is probably the best Asian buffet in the area. But that’s not saying much when you’re comparing it to Hokkaido, Peter Pan buffet(now closed), and Blue Pearl. Regardless of which, they do have some perks. You get a limitless amounts of eel nigiri which is the best sushi they have. The downside is, everyone is fighting for it. You have to wait a good 10 minutes and you’ll even get that one inconsiderate jerk that takes the WHOLEPLATE! They also have Korean bbq short-ribs. You’ll either get a nice and tender piece or a chewy overcooked one. And surprisingly, the best thing they have are their Nutella crepes. They have a guy working the crêpe station who makes them on the spot for you. Their green tea ice cream isn’t half bad either! In conclusion, an above average buffet but not exactly a 4 star solely b/c it’s extremely pricy.

Free coupon to eat for free if it is your birthday. Bring a valid photo ID to prove that it’s your birthday then the staff will give you a free meal coupon for next time when you visit(if you come during lunch time the coupon will be for lunch). Unagi and salmon sushi are popular and gone quick.(People are like hawks here, they stand and wait for unagi and/or salmon, once the staff bring them out, BAM they take everything and leave you maybe 1 piece if you are standing next to them and looking at them with shock). Tempura shrimp too. Nice variety of food. They use to have more sushi choices but now are just the standard ones, still good enough for buffet.

This place did not hold up to what Todai was unfortunately. For a slight reduction in price, the quality has slipped noticeable. Items were subtly or, in some cases, more blatantly substituted by money making items that compromised taste. It’s understandable that restaurants want to increase revenue by decreasing cost, but should do so in a smarter way that retain the quality of taste. Instead, you get nigiri with packed rice and meat that can’t even stay on. You get sashimi that’s messily placed that resemble more of a 15 dollar buffet than 30 dollar buffet. After customer rummage through the food plates, have a wait staff tidy up! That is probably the most disappointing, not the drop in material quality, but the drop in care. With that said, the place is still miles ahead of other buffet because of the steep price tag. But for those of us that knew Todai, we certainly wish it was a different name hanging over the restaurant.

This buffet has a very good variety of food, and has TONs of seafood options from crabs, squid, crab cakes, and shrimp to name a few. They also have a hibachi selection, as well as a good selection of sides from kimchi to different types of salads. By looking at the selections, I am willing to bet that the owners are Korean as there seem to be more Korean dish then there are Japanese dishes. Now when it comes to the sushi, I must say that they are quite delicious, however they are not out of this world delicious. I would give the sushi a rank of about 7/10, so not terrible by any means, but not the best either. I would give two thumbs up, however it is a bit pricy.

I had visited Sushi On(Todai) couple of times. We went for a weekend lunch last time and it was packed and wait time was nearly 15 mins. But still it was worth waiting. Waiters were pretty quick in cleaning the table and making it ready for next customer. Their food collection is pretty good both on sushi and other food items. When I visited, they had crab cakes and few other sea food items. All were equally good. Chefs are really fast in filling Sushi plates as it drains. They have good colletion pastries too. They cut the pastries to really small portion which makes it easy to try and then pick the items which you like more. Definitely recommend this place if you are a sushi/seafood lover.

***HOSTESSES*** Arrived at noon on a Saturday and had a 40 min wait, which is somewhat expected here, but the two hostesses were extremely rude and dismissive. Heewon in particular stared me and my significant other down while we waited, while letting other newcomers cut in line and enter the restaurant while we waited. The second hostess wasn’t much better as we observed she and Heewon look away from people approaching the desk and talking down to an older group of customers. Note to the owner!!: It is quite obvious you haven’t trained the hosts or don’t care that they talk smack to your paying customers. Either get them to be polite and helpful or fire them. Come on, this isn’t acceptable. ***WAITSTAFF** Waitstaff here has always been very nice and helpful. Alex was awesome and the rest of the waiters and waitresses are great. They are the best part of the service at Todai aka Sushi On. ***FOOD*** Food is the #1 reason we come here and it was fantastic as always. Glad to see the food quality is consistently awesome even after the rebranding from Todai to Sushi On. Lunch is a great value here!

Every time I go here is mainly for the unlimited amount of sushi and for the desserts! They have other entrée options but it definitely isn’t as extensive as the sushi. I think you get the best value for your money if you get the sushi! Coming at lunch is a good deal since it’s cheaper than the dinner price and the food choices are about the same. I believe on weekends there may be a few alternatives but nothing too significant.

Ok so this is why I give this place two stars. For the buffet, it’s extremely expensive! The sushi is limited, and they always seem to be out of Unagi! Ugh. The food is mediocre, you could mistaken them for Chinese if you didn’t see the sushi. Honestly I couldn’t believe the price once I finished, will not be returning.

Amazing sushi, sashimi, tempura etc. I was stuffed from all of that but still managed to eat a freshly made crêpe with nutella and bananas. I went at dinner time on a weekday and there were many open tables, the sushi was replenished quickly and our water glasses never went dry. Its slightly expensive at $ 26/pp for dinner but lunch could be a good value. All the food was very high quality and fresh. Oh and they have frozen yogurt and an espresso machine!

My family and I visited Sushi On(originally Todai) for the first time today because someone recommended it to us. I have to say it’s the best buffet I’ve ever been to. Personally I enjoyed it more than Minado and Ichiumi and it’s unfortunate that I don’t live in VA because at $ 17 a person for lunch with that many tasty options, I would go often. The sushi options itself make it worth it. Please visit if you’re a sushi lover! The service was also great and the reataurant itself is a little crowded and a little noisy but very clean. Overall, very pleasant experience!

New management. Food tastes better. Less seating. One thing they need to improve on. If it looks like 1.5 hour wait, they need to say that and than seat us sooner we are happy. If you tell us 45 minutes and 40 minutes later tell us another 30 minutes… That’s disconcerting. The best part of service was our waiter who was great about refilling and taking our plates.

This is the former Todai but it’s the same place. We’ve been coming here for nearly a decade, often on one of the kid’s birthdays. The sushi is very good, but not what you’d expect at one of the more expensive sushi places in the region. You’re coming here for the quantity and the options. If you price it out, it’s a much better value here. The options are greater on weekends, plus the food seems a little fresher as well. If you want to stuff yourself on sushi, come here.

Had no idea that todai turned into sushi on. But same layout and same food quality but just a different name. The sushi is the only food that I really go for whenever I come here and there was nothing too spectacular about it. It’s decent and good enough to eat if you come hungry. Everything else is pretty much fried or super unhealthy. I really did like the green tea ice cream as a dessert to finish off my meal. I don’t know if I would come back very often but it is a decent buffet if you are in the mood.

Have always been a fan of this place when it was known as Todai. Now they have changed the name to «Sushi On» …well that’s kind of what I have to do when I go there, get my sushi on LOL. My family and I came here all the time during birthdays, especially because my mom is has that typical cheap Asian mom mentality. They always give you a certificate for a free meal if you present them with an official form of identification. Well, don’t quote me on that, I’m not sure if they do that anymore. Aside from that bonus they have a lot more to offer. When they first opened a while back, they served either lobsters or jumbo shrimp every 30 minutes. The lobster was actually very good, but I’m not a fan of shrimp. After a while, they made it into half portions, I guess because it was beginning to get costly for them, and then eventually they stopped it completely. Well that was fine for me because I didn’t come for the lobster. What I love the most about this buffet is the sashimi. They put out slices of sashimi, salmon, tuna, and red snapper and basically people are always grabbing the most they can. It’s rare when you see that it’s full. It’s pretty good quality and fresh. The taste is great, and I can’t get enough of it. Well, aside from this the sushi is decent too. I love the spicy tuna roll and the spicy salmon roll. I’m not sure what the rest of the rolls are called but they have such a variety. Not all of them tastes great, but the majority do. They have many sections of food. There is the sushi and salad next to each other. Moving on, they have a soup section, and third, they have a hot food section. Then there’s the dessert section… which is bae. Okay well let me just say there is SOOOO much food here. I think that’s why it’s so pricey, and if one were to eat here, they really should keep an empty stomach. I love that they have edamame, my favorite. The miso soup is okay, not amazing, just okay. They also have soba and I think other noodle soup that is made to order? I’m not sure since I never get it. In the hot food section, I like the tempura. They have typical food like orange chicken and galbi, etc. I’m usually over in the sushi section but sometimes I’ll get a few things here. They have a fresh seafood section with oysters and more. Dessert is bomb. My favorite desserts they serve are the tofu looking mini cheesecake with the pink jelly on top. I also like the blueberry crème cake, and the butter cookies are soooo good. They have a green tea soft serve, which I look forward to every time. They have an espresso machine now which is okay. I think it’s only for dinner that they have the crêpe service. I think this is awesome! The crepes taste pretty good, the banana one specifically. This review is already so long but there’s just so much food lol so I feel that I have to mention it all. The dinner is a bit pricey, about $ 30 dollars per person and if you go with someone that’s about $ 70 right there with tip included. I come during the lunch time because it’s not too busy and cheaper. Overall it’s not bad if you go with family for dinner if you know what I mean, haha. Anyways, I must say the waiters and waitresses here aren’t very attentive and it’s annoying because I want to give them a good tip but I usually don’t feel that they deserve it. They barely come around to ask how you are doing. They gave us water at first but didn’t bother to ever come back to refill. They didn’t give us any napkins… and were never around for us to ask. I was really annoyed and at the end of my meal, I had to come up to them to ask for the check and personally return it back to them as well. For lunch… really? If it’s not busy why can’t you pay more attention to your customers? Its surprising because at dinner, servers seem to be more attentive. Well besides the service sometimes, the food is great and that’s the reason why I keep coming back.

Went to the lunch buffet. Go during the week because it is more expensive on weekends and Holidays. It is called«Sushi On» now. Have been there before when it was Todai. Seems the same to me. Plenty of seating. Lots of sushi! On the far left is the sushi bar, then a salad bar, a soup bar and finally the hot food bar. The grilled meat was really good as was the sushi and udon soup. Ramen was pretty good too. Also have Green tea ice cream and a desert bar. Espresso machine too although I always order green tea. They have seafood and more stuff at dinner but it is more expensive. Check this place out!

I use to be a big fan of Todai, everything was great until I came back recently. The food were old and never refill, some were burnt as well. Not to mention that I pay almost $ 30 for a buffet when I get only old food? The sushi bar is limited and not as of options compare to other buffet I went to. The sushi were not pack tightly. When I lift the sushi, everything fell down. The dessert bar is okay. The only thin I like there is the crêpe. As goes for the night special, they’ll only have it by the hour, so if it’s all gone, it’s gone, they don’t make anymore till the next hour by their time destination. The food quality gone down compare to the past times I visited.

Todai is the perfect place to go if you’re really hungry on pay day! While there is a wide variety of options(sushi, salads, hot/cold noodles, crab legs, ice cream machines, and crêpe makers), the price tag($ 29.95 for dinner and drinks are separate) deems a visit worthwhile only on special occasions. Otherwise, the selections are very good for the sheer amount of food they have to put out to satisfy all their customers! The servers are all nice and polite, as well.

Not worth it! Buffets are always a toss-up for me. This one is huge, which is incredibly daunting for someone like me but if you’re like the rest of the clientele, you should have no problem clearing plates. And I mean those people devote hours of their day just to eat here. It’s a pain to actually get any food — things get snatched up in a minute and some of their sushi selection is just plain weird. Rolls with blueberry sauce? Eh? Wot? In addition, I got sick(went yesterday) and had a hell of a morning today! I’m not about wasting $ 20 for myself to get foodborne illness(es). Definite no-no.

Northern Virginia is severely lacking in Asian buffet options. This Japanese buffet is one of the only options within 15 miles. We had a hankering for just that though so we have it a try. Last things first, it’s $ 30 per person. Yup. That means it’s over $ 70 for two people to go for dinner. They didn’t charge for baby, but I don’t know what the age cut off is for free kids. I can’t say that it was worth it. I certainly got a lot of food. But I definitely didn’t get a lot of good food. The sushi rolls were small and many of the most popular tend to get picked off very quickly. I didn’t see any Unagi the entire time I was there. This was true of many other stations too. The Tempura was good but as soon as they bring out a new tray, a couple of people dig through and pull out all the shrimp leaving only vegetables. The«Chinese food» portion was probably the biggest let down. There were very few options and what was there seemed phones in. The Fried Rice was plaid and bland. The Teriyaki Chicken wasn’t at all tasty. The dessert items were nice. The Flan was my stand out favorite, but the strawberry shortcake was also delicious. Service on buffets is generally not a huge concern, but our waiter was no where to be found. We ended up walking to the front assuming we had to pay there because he never came back after bringing our drinks. I will probably trek out to Bailey’s Crossroads the next time I want a good buffet option rather than try Todai again.

The sushi is decent but this is not just a sushi buffet. You’ll find a variety of meat, rice, noodles, soups and seafood dishes that are tasty and a step above the typical mainstream«Chinese buffet.» The mini sized desserts(flan, tiramisu, puddings) are adorable and quite yummy as well.

20 bucks for lunch is pretty pricey even if it’s on the weekend. And to rise to the level of 4 or 5 stars on Unilocal, you’d have to be pretty exceptional. Unfortunately, Todai does not meet those expectations for me. That’s not to say it’s not pretty solid for an Asian buffet. They have a good amount of variety. I think of the main categories as: sushi, soup, noodle station, traditional, and desserts. Sushi: If you don’t spend at least half your meal gorging on the sushi then you can be spending your money more wisely. The most popular one is definitely the eel. This one is almost always on empty. So see if you can get a seat next to the sushi section and keep an eye out because it goes quick. Soup: They might switch these up but last time I went there was: miso, crab, and something else. The crab(not a lot of actual crab meat) was my go to and a good option between heaping platefuls of more solid foods. Noodle station: You an pick your ingredients ranging from napa cabbage to shrimp, a noodle(udon or ramen), and then a broth. Give it to the guy behind the counter and he’ll have it ready for you in 2 minutes. Also good value if you get momentarily sick of fish and rice. Traditional: This is the section towards the back with the classic Chinese buffet dishes — your fried rice, lo meins, glazed meats. Definitely not a good value but sometimes I can’t resist. Desserts: Very solid options. They have little cakes, fondue, made to order crepes, soft serve ice cream, and even a newly purchased cappuccino machine. Considering Asians aren’t that big into desserts, this a section has a really good selection.

They do not offer Lobster for Dinner anymore. They are going to give out something else starting the end of July. They actually remodeled this place and it looks a lot better from before, but the waiters and waitress are still the same. What REALLY bothered me about this trip to Todai was that they gave me a last table seating near the bathroom, which I was okay with. BUT then during half way She also placed another large party right behind me. Their seating system here is so messed up. There were so many other seating outside of this small little area but they decide to place them right next to us. But whatever, Sushi is the same from last time, no difference. Only thing that is a upgrade is they place a cappacino machine near the dessert area. Love me some coffee.

Good restaurant, be hungry as its a buffet and on the expensive side. But what you get for the price is absolutely amazing. If you like sushi, sashimi and the like, you’ll love it here. If you just prefer chinese, japanese and korean dishes, they have that too. Plus in the evenings they have carving stations with beef and also crab legs. Plus a full dessert bar and soft serve ice cream. If you go, its best to go at an off-time of day since the restaurant is located inside Fair Oaks Mall. I love this place and go when feasible. But tend to overeat everytime I’m there. This is a must try restaurant if you haven’t been there before.
