I’ve been sampling the rhubarb lemon pound cakes that Black Creek Preserves sells at the Burlington Farmers Market for at least the last three years. I’ve also purchased some for family dinners. The cakes are dense, moist and pack a huge punch of tart and sweet flavor. Truly delicious and a nice change over the traditional desserts that people bring to dinner parties and special occasions. I decided to do some research on the company and have discovered that Black Creek Preserves is a long-time purveyor of rhubarb cakes, pickles, jams and chutneys. Nearly all the ingredients are procured from the garden outside of where the owner, Jessica Kittell Gaudette, lives. Black Creek Preserves does not have a website and there isn’t a lot of press on the company. The most comprehensive article I found was written a few years ago by the Burlington Free Press and can be read here: Sounds like Jessica is best known for her jams and pickles, but in a pinch, I’d go with her ultra delicious and unique rhubarb lemon pound cake. It’s truly special.
