Well. This place has some(over rated) high ratings but having traveled over the US eating bbq I’d rate this place a 1 or 2. I’m giving them a 3 because they are the only place around. I’m not holding them to be Franklin BBQ or Charlie Vergos in Memphis standard but this place is below average for average BBQ places. I ordered $ 26 worth of food and had 5 – 6 different things and they were all bland and no taste. Who doesn’t smoke ribs in the winter but this place? Professional smokers don’t close things down for winter. They are armatures. No awards or accolades. No passion, energy, or gumption. Heck, I saw a smoker out back on a trailer. How about using it? If you are from here, enjoy your mediocre BBQ. If you are passing though just drive and eat in DC or Baltimore.

This place is country and not only are they not ashamed of their roots, the owners and staff celebrate the slower, kinder life. Frontier Barbecue is a local stop that serves meats that have been smoked low and slow. They have a great selection of side from their red-potato salad and signature beans, to the tasty mac-and-cheese made onsite. Their spicy beef is a local favorite. The beef has an appropriate smoked flavor and their sauce is tangy with a touch of heat.(my nose didn’t run). Their eating accommodation are outdoors where you’ll be entertained by a selection of classic country music. Watch to wood carver at work while you eat and then take a walk through his creations when you finish eating.

Best BBQ ever! It gets so crowded when they are open, but they have fast service, and plenty of seats. I just wish they were open all year long!

The ribs here are terrific! They are so tender they melt in your mouth. Juicy, too! I’m not a fan of the sides, but, hey, when the ribs are this good, I’m still going with 5 stars.

We decided to stop here on a whim while out driving. We were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was relaxing. We didn’t know that it was cash only but we had enough to cover what we ordered. Good thing there is a bank across the street just in case. Since it was Sunday I ordered the half chicken(for $ 7) to split between myself and my four year old son. It was absolutely delicious and ended up splitting it 3 ways and had enough to bring home too. Hubs ordered the hillbillie sundae. It was it had all the things he liked. I tried it and was a fan. Can’t wait to come back and try out some of the other items!

We live locally so we visit often. Excellent food, good atmosphere. A little expensive but nice sized portions. Worth the money but don’t forget your cash. There is an atm across the road.

I think I may have found the best rib joint I’ve eaten at so far(w/exception to Fat Matt’s Rib Shack in Atlanta GA)! As a general rule, MDBBQ is pretty lame(especially in O.C.) with the exception of Famous Dave’s(Frederick location) and Carterque(Mt. Airy), so here I am, up in Fairfield PA(I didn’t know PA’ers could ‘que). Frontiers has them whipped as far as ribs go. The ribs are tender but not fall off the bone mush. The meat has a complex smokey flavor that complements a tangy-sweet Memphis style sauce. Words cannot describe how good the ribs are, your going to have to check it out yourself. The baked beans are flat out fantastic. It’s a combination of standard beans, Lima beans, combined with bacon and pulled pork in as sweet maple flavored sauce. The coleslaw was fresh and has a zingy flavor? And lastly, the sweet tea was refreshing but not overly sweet. Only outdoor seating is available arranged in a rustic outdoor theme/setting. Its a nice 75 deg. breezy day with a nice selection of country music playing in the background and the smoke from a camp fire, wafting in my general direction. Frontiers is somewhat pricey @ $ 20.14 for the half-rack meal with drink and tax. They have good ‘que and they know it, but worth it. The sides are served in plentiful half-pints containers. In the words of the infamous door gunner in the movie Full Metal Jacket; «Get some!»

Fabulous outdoor fun and food! Great setting with benches and picnic tables or bar seating up on the porch. They always have a fire burning and the seating is shaded, so perfect for any summer day. Ordering is fast but remember cash only. Smoked ribs are fall of the bones delicious. Classic juicy Bar B Q! Yummo. Vinegar slaw and sweet moist cornbread are the perfect sides. Fries are hot and crispy with a spray of vinegar and a dash of sea salt, mmmmm. Make sure you get a slice of the chocolate cake, their peanut butter frosting is no joke and the perfect finish to a great meal. Don’t pass this place up, it’s that good!

Frontier Bar B Q is making the classics and making them well. My husband and I came here on a sunny Sunday for lunch. We ordered two pork sandwiches, fried pickles, coleslaw, onion rings, and sweet tea. The pork is smokey, tangy, and piled high. The sides were all good, but the pickles were pretty spectacular. This is a lovely place to eat some down-home delicious food and enjoy a little sunshine. If you’re a lover of smoked meats, you’ll love Frontier Bar B Q!

We stopped here for some late lunch after snow tubing up he street. Really enjoyed the NC style BBQ pork sandwich and the chili. The staff was very helpful, and they even got a fire roaring for us.

We found out about Frontier from our plumber… It was a 1 ½ hr drive. The place was really nice when we pulled up. There is seating outside or under cover. We ordered the sandwich sampler, three small sandwiches. I got smoked ham, brisket and pulled pork. MMMMMMMGOOD. the ham was just ok… the brisket was trimmed and also good. but the pulled pork. .Man this was/is the BESTPULLEDPORK I have ever eaten in my 56 years… We will be back just for the PULLEDPORK… great smoky flavor. melted in my mouth… and did I mention they have fried pickles…

Best ribs ever. This place is great year around. The summer menu they have Apple jack ribs which will fall off the bone and in the winter they have the best turkey you will ever eat. Their pull pork is great and they have a vinegar spray for those of us who like a Carolina taste. Ham is really good and their side are good. I would recommend the buffalo chips over the fries, the beans are good and my kids love their fried pickles and Mac n cheese. Best bar b q in several states. Seating is outside on picnic benches but they have some of them under cover. If you check their calendar they have a live blue grass or just a good fun band.

This is up there with the best BBQ I’ve had. The meat is smoky, moist and flavorful. The prices are very fair and it is a fun atmosphere to enjoy your food. Picnic tables, benches, a camp fire. All well maintained and welcoming. I got the sandwich which is a combo of pork and brisket. I liked them both so it’ll be a tough call to decide which meat to get next time… but I may have to go with the brisket. Then again, people on here are raving about the chicken and the ribs. It won’t be an easy call. The Buffalo chips are awesome. A little spicy for kids, but I loved them. Mac N cheese was solid. Sauces were good. If you want a sit-down dinner experience go to Chubbys. I’ve been to both. I liked Chubbys also but it is expensive and Frontier has better BBQ. ;)

For people who find Frontier’s hours«confusing,» here’s a summary. Open 11 – 5 on Fridays-Sundays. Pretty simple if you ask me. These guys are also very present on Facebook, so just check their page if you’re ever unsure about anything. The barbeque is absolutely wonderful, and I gladly drive the 15 minutes down route 16 to get some. Everybody needs to try the brisket and the buffalo chips. The buffalo chips are similar in taste and texture to Arby’s curly fries, and they come with ranch for dipping. As with many PA establishments, Frontier is BYOB. In addition, they only accept cash, so come prepared! The food is down-home country goodness, and if you’re lucky, you might catch some live blue grass and a bonfire going on. I love this place!

I have driven by this place for years and felt tormented by the sign announcing barbecue – it was never open in the winter. Frontier is down the road from Ski Liberty. I always said, «I’ll get-up there in summer and try it» but never did. Now, they are open weekends in winter and I have stopped twice: I’m glad I did.
Very good sandwiches. I have had the Spicy Beef and the Pork. Both were solid winners. The winter menu is limited so there are no ribs or brisket. The sandwiches are big and at $ 6 a good value. The buns are basic but good. Skip the fries – nothing special. It is an outdoor roadside place, with picnic tables. Very good staff. Cash only. Very much worth a stop.

Mmmmmm the smell of smoked meat!!! We’ve stopped here a few times over the years for yummy BBQ sandwiches when they were operating out of a small trailer, but we were amazed to see the new upgrades! The addition of an enclosed outdoor seating area, walk up window(which looks into a full operating kitchen), and the cozy fire-pit are impressive. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich, a side of baked beans, an order of fried pickles, and sweet tea. It’s was good southern slap-your-momma BBQ! We were very pleased. The pork had a nice tangy vinegar taste, the beans were saucy and very flavorful with small chunks of smoked pork, the pickles had a dill batter on them, and the tea was not overpowering sweet. We will definitely be back… and we’re recommending Frontier to everyone!!!(Note: They are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday… and close at 5pm) YUM :D
