I am going to have to agree with Sandra P. on her comment regarding the mediator, Veronica Piper-Jefferson. The mediators are supposed to look out for the best interest of the children, to make sure the environment they are in is one that is safe and that they can mature in. Mediators are supposed to be unbiased, however, from what I understand, she favors 50⁄50 custody and will conclude her report to state this even if it is contradictory. If you ever have the unfortunate luck of having this mediator, please ask for another one. She interviewed my children because my children were saying they do not want to be with their father 50⁄50 and he kept insisting they said they did.(Their father was not involved with them when we were married and he gave up time because he said, I need a life.” They were with me 75% of the time for 5 years). I wanted them to be interviewed by an unbiased person that my children could be honest with. They told Veronica, they did not feel comfortable at his house, they were scared, he constantly called them names, and was physical with them. Her report was inaccurate in that she said the kids stated things that they did not. Even after the kids stated this, her conclusion was that my kids need to get used to his disciplinary style. I was forced to sign the stipulation to keep my kids with their father 50⁄50 because she also made negative comments about me claiming I read legal documents to my children. Really?! My kids are too young to understand legal jargon. I certainly told them that their father was wanting them 50⁄50 because they have the right to know. My children continue to be verbally & physically abused by their father. The police say they cannot do anything unless a mark is left on them. He knows not to leave a mark but physically hitting them is not discipline. My children are now in a home where their step-mom and their father yell in their face at the same time. This is our Solano County Court system doing what is in the best interest of divorced children. Shame on Veronica and shame on the court system for allowing our children to be placed in abusive homes all because they believe 50⁄50 is best. I would be very surprised if she even has a license. Her report was biased and I found several legal issues that could have been raised to discredit her. My attorney refused to fight the report and now my children suffer.
