I’ve been to Thomas Creek a few times when I was younger. I was there today since my cousin was playing in a high school varsity game against McQuaid. I’ve been to a far share of HS hockey games prior but never remember feeling as cold as I was at Thomas Creek. Overall a nice ice rink but if you are going to be sitting in the stands bring several blankets as well as bundle up!

As a little girl I dreamt about being an ice princess, but I’m pretty sure you need to be able to stop without falling to get a figure skating tiara. In my mind, all I really needed was time on the ice alone to perfect my skills without fear of getting my fingers sliced off by a group of 3rd graders on a field trip. If only my 6 year old self could have spent an hour at Thomas Creek, I may have been an Olympian! The few times we’ve come out for open skate, there has been ample ice space. There haven’t been more than a dozen skaters on our visits, perfect for getting our three year old comfortable on the ice. The rentals are basic recreational skates, but they do the job well enough for $ 3. For the chauffeuring parent, the stands offer bare-bones seating but warmth can be found in the snack bar’s booths. The bathrooms are also exceptionally warm… The front lobby holds plentiful bench seating and the ever-present arcade games that seem to be required of all rinks everywhere. Even with a large air hockey table, the lobby is spacious and well thought out keeping in consideration the crowds that I imagine come with big game days and tournament weekends. The pro shop is staffed by friendly help and seems to have sufficient selection for its size, and really it’s size is larger than I would expect a 2-rink facility to host. I haven’t spent much time in the shop, so I can’t speak to the pricing. Overall, this is a great place to get acquainted or reacquainted with the ice if you need plenty of elbow room. The staff are laid back and helpful, friendly enough with the minimal interaction needed to pay for the open skate session.
