Took a whole hog butchery class with Brian the butcher and it was awesome! He is very knowledgeable and entertaining. We were in from out of town so we couldn’t sample any of the meat, but it is very high quality and he will cut you whatever you want. Great beer selection too. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a not-to-miss side trip from Asheville! Seriously, every single time we go to Asheville, we’re sure to stop at Hickory Nut to stock up. It’s in a little town called Fairview(near Looking Glass Creamery, also worth a visit!), only 15 – 20 minutes from Asheville. If you’re going back to Charlotte afterwards like we do, you can also take a pretty route home that winds you down 74 into Lake Lure/Chimney Rock without adding too much time to the trip. Throw a cooler in the back of your car and spend some time shopping their little market. They always give us ice for our cooler, btw. We usually take home skirt steak, ribs, ground beef and hot dogs. They have a wide selection, so I’m sure you’ll find your favorites, too. The quality of their meat(especially the fresh/not frozen items) is unrivaled. They recently opened a deli counter that serves a great lunch. Along with lunch — I had an amazing bowl of chili last time — we’ve also picked up some amazing pastrami and bacon ends there. So, don’t forget to browse up there when you’re shopping, too. Before you leave, check the ice cream selection. If they have the bacon flavor, do yourself a favor and get 2-scoops!

Beautiful place just far enough out there! The shop is simple and cute, and the festivals they do are adorable! I did go horseback riding here and I loved it! Such kind workers and great horses/trails. Lovely place to visit on good weather. I do wish I could come run these trails! There would probably be too many horses. Ha

Wonderful place to bring the whole family! This was my choice for our family get together for Fall. They a fun corn maze, 2 huge slides, a rope Spider Web, other fun stuff as well plus lots of cute animals to see & pet. The made fresh Apple Cider was a big hit with everyone. They have a great selection of delicious meats & sandwiches at their farm fresh deli. All 12 of us agree we need to go back this fall we loved it.

My first impression of Hickory Nut Farm Farm was you have got to be kidding! It seemed like a lot of money for what you see when you pull in to the parking lot. In the end though it was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. My 4 year old, 2 year old and 18 month old grandchildren had a blast! The animals and culvert slide were highlights.

This was a cool place to come. Despite the rain and the mud, this was awesome. You can see the baby cows, chicks, and goats. The cider produced on this farm is top notch. Sadly we arrived to late to have eaten at the Deli. From what we could see there was a birthday party for children going on with pony rides. If you want to support a local business, this a great way to do it.

Peach ice cream and chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream are yummy. Mini scoop $ 2 — great deal.

If you’re in the area — which might be a challenge, because there is very little in the area — then by all means, drive down this little winding road and visit the farm. It’s worth the few minutes you will spend. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Asheville, then it’s not a bad little side trip, and it’s definitely a scenic drive, but unfortunately you really can’t attribute all of that to the farm. Regardless of how you get there, it is definitely a nice place to visit, but there isn’t a bunch to the place — a store on premise with a few goodies, and certainly some very nice staff. Just don’t expect a big old barn packed to the rafters!

Everyone is so friendly here. Worth the drive. Bacon and breakfast sausage. Woo. Woo. But today we also got to see a calf chase a vulture in the pasture. It was do cool. And no extra charge. Thanks Jody and Natalie for the gift.

I hesitate to write a review for Hickory Nut Gap Farm because I don’t want too many people to find it! But as an astute Unilocaler I must do my duty and tell you that this place is the best. We took a beautiful drive through the rolling hills between Hendersonville and Asheville a few Sundays ago to spend the day at the farm during their fall festival which took place every day during September and October. There was an admission fee but the experience was well worth the price. The farm’s location is beautiful. There are a number of areas to view all types of animals — cows, horses, pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys, and baby chicks. The barn is filled with activities — a super cool bike riding area, a rope swing, a tire swing, and an elevated goat walk. During September and October, there were pony rides for the kids, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, and food trucks selling delicious BBQ made from the farm’s meat. Finally, you must bring your cooler and some ice so you can stock up on delicious grass-fed and pastured beef, pork and chicken for great prices from the farm’s store. My husband, myself, and our two year old all had a blast and we would highly recommend a visit to the farm any time of year. They have an excellent website you can check out to find out what is happening on any given day. And most of the year there is no admission cost. For those times when you can’t make the trip to the farm, their beef is available at Whole Foods in Greenville as well as a number of locations around Asheville. Support local, pastured animals, and support our local farms with a trip to Hickory Nut Gap!

We love this farm! We are CSA members and frequent the farm store monthly, if not more. They continue to expand the items they sell, and now have the absolute best milk ever! I just wish they always had it in stock! If you’re looking for a snack while at the farm, try the sweet beef sticks… OMG delicious! There is always something fun going on at the farm, even if it’s just a quick walk around to see the horses, piggies, and baby chicks. In the Fall, they have more activities, like a corn maze and nature walk. An awesome farm in WNC! Thankful for the organic foods they provide!

Lydia is right, Hickory Nut Gap Farm does it right, if you are an omnivore, like most of us. In September/October, they have an active program, catering to kids & families. Otherwise, just a small store. The refrigerated and frozen meat is excellent, and tasty, I can big-time tell the difference between their meat and grocery store feed-lot beef. The staff is friendly and helpful, to boot, and they ship!

Make that WAS a fan. When we were fleshitarians living in Western NC, we used to go to Hickory Nut Gap Farm to get our meats. We would bring coolers and fill them up and bring them home to stock our freezer for future use. The couple who own the farm are very nice and are passionate about what they do. When we decided to amend our lifestyle and save future animals we gave our large stash of frozen meat to a co-worker of my husband’s who thought he had won the Lotto. In a way he did for Hickory Nut Gap Farm had some of the best meat in the region and they supply many of the high end restaurants in the Asheville area. Though I am sure I will not ever be eating meat again I would recommend them for those who feel they must as the quality is top notch.
