Jay St. Charles makes and sells beautiful wood bows from bamboo and hardwood. He also offers make-your-own-bow workshops at very reasonable prices(currently $ 70 per bow,) for all ages. Working out of his barn, he makes the blanks, and workshop participants scrape, sand, and finish the bow. He has an archery range set up for shooting, and usually organizes several other bowyers to help with the workshops. Our school has participated annually in a workshop since 2006, and the 6th grade students are completely engaged and enthusiastic about their bows. Jay and his crew are knowledgeable, patient, and encouraging, and have lots of stories and artifacts to share. These are artisans with skills that are hard to find. I highly recommend the workshop for anyone interested in archery, and owning their own bow.
