We jumped, screamed, laughed, scattered, cried, panicked and freaked out at the Asylum. This type of place guarantees to give you an in-your-face experience. It’s less about the props, tired Hollywood themes and cheesy blood and gore and ALL about the dark, what’s behind the next corner and what will jump out at you next. The actors come out from when you don’t expect it, follow you and try to separate you from your group. Unexpected and scary. But, respectful and hands off as you try to pass and catch up with your friends, eventually. Not a kids’ place, so don’t bring them. The line moves slow as they let in groups one-at-a-time, and leave plenty of space in between and so truly have a personal experience with what lurks within. We did the Factory first, and the Asylum second – hands down Asylum wins for heart-pumping scares and freak outs! Times 10! Kudos to the actors who work hard to make this a unique experience without being predictable or cliché. We’ll send others and be back next year!

After hearing a lot of good and bad reviews about both the Factory of Terror and the Asylum of Horror I decided to try them both out. I went on Saturday night to the Asylum of Horror first. When I showed up there was no line at all which should have given me an indication of what was to come. The first room was kind of cool and had a good actor but I was not impressed with the rest of the Asylum. The whole place was just foggy room after foggy room with strobes and actors that did a lot of grunting. I expected a lot of things to pop out and make me jump but I saw nothing. Time wise I was very disappointed for as much as I paid. I spent a total of 8 minutes for $ 17. Overall, the Asylum was a step up from a homemade garage haunted house that is way over priced. As for the Factory of Terror, when I showed up there was a line out of the garage where people enter that adds to the effect. Before going into the factory our group got to take a free picture which was awesome! Then we went to pay at a mock hotel counter which was very cool and entered a waiting room with a band and other entertaining things. Once we entered the factory you could tell that a lot of time was spent putting everything together. There was a ton of detail everywhere! As for the actors, they did more than just grunt and groan. They were actually coming out and screaming which made everyone in our group scream. I don’t even know how many times I jumped but it seemed like every room had us screaming. As for the time spent in the factory it was a total of 23 minutes which is well worth the $ 20 we spent to go in. Overall, The Factory was very impressive and would easily be considered a professional haunted house!

I also did the Factory Of Terror on the same night. I liked both. The monsters in the Asylum were pretty scary. But, everything in this haunted house is very outdated and just old. This place really needs some updating for sure. I definitely had a great time and WBOS was outside giving away free stuff which made an added bonus. Also, there was absolutely NO line. You walked right in. Which is probably not a good sign.

I went to factory of terror and asylum of horror on the same night, and I certainly enjoyed both, but asylum was definitely the scarier of the two. While they clearly have a lower budget, less props, and not nearly as long or elaborate, the asylum made up for it with enthusiastic actors who were much more effective. There was no line, and indeed no other patrons when my girlfriend and I went through the asylum. This of course skews the results by making the experience more frightening. Many of the actors had memorized lines and delivered them well. It’s also 3 bucks less than factory of fear. I would recommend going to both.
