Been several times. Always great Portuguese food! The weekday 2 for $ 25 wine and entrées deal is a winner; decent mid-range wines that go well with the food. Our waitress on our most recent visit, Edie, was super-attentive and acommodating to our requests. Fantastic hidden gem!

The food is good. DONOT do take out or if you do give them 2 hours to make it. You have been warned.

My business colleague and I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for a lunch spot. Hard to come by in Fall River? Were we on the wrong side of town? Anyway, we ended up in the back parking lot of the Fall River Grill. Not much to look at and we had a hard time finding the back entrance. Oh well. The menu turned out to be very interesting. Lots of great selections, with a Portuguese slant. I went for the pulled pork sandwich. It was outstanding! Thick chunks of pork meat marinated in some heavenly spices, which I could not make out. This was great since most of the pulled pork sandwiches are barbeque based. The generous portion of pork was placed in a chewy bread that was delicious in its own right. Topped off with pickled red pepper. Perfect lunch outing.

Some items here are delicious while others should be avoided at all costs. The octopus special is always great as well as the goat cheese appetizer. The calamari however is a very tiny portion and is very obviously previously frozen. It tastes more like the oil it was fried in than anything else. The staff is always friendly.

Take the folding chairs up from storage, buy a cheap assortment of pastries and invite yo peeps over. Urgent announcement: homegirls first official follow up review. While the most seemingly innocent Unilocal reader may find homegirls style a bit unconventional and maybe even harsh, homegirl needs you to know that not even Aretha Franklin has more respect and decency than yours truly. Now about the fall rivah grill. Homegirl has frequented the joint against my wishes on several occasions. Each visit I have dreaded through a 1 hour plus wait. Each visit my tolerance has been mocked, manipulated and mutilated. My vision waning, my my stomach panging, my precious breathe wasting ;in the uninsulated corridor of the Fall River grill. But my revision to this review isn’t to pin the tail on the donkey one last time. There was a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel. One word: octopus. It’s the only thing to order. The eight legged creature can be a chefs nemesis. However the octopus here is perfectly tender and absolutely delicious. Only my Vavo makes better octopus. Second after my Vavo is a good place to be FRG. My last pivoting point is named Paula. I’m shoutin out to my main waitress Paula. This place needs Paula to smooth out the wrinkles in homegirls upset forehead. She was he most sincere, the sweetest, most genuinely delightful servers in all of homegirls restaurantour experiences. You want it– Paula’s got it. And even though anorexia may strike even the heartiest of frames during the inexcusable wait, put a place of octopus in Paula’s hands and you will be set straight.

Great food. Great service. Atmosphere is nothing special. Place is nice and clean though. Tables are real close to each other. Usually have 50% off coupons on groupon. Check it out

Went here for late lunch, place was clean and not many people around just locals at the bar. We had a groupon otherwise I had never heard of this place before. Definitely recommend the spicy chourico which had a good kick but not too spicy, dipped the portuguese bread in the sauce which was pretty good. Also had the shrimp mozambique which was ok, and the steak medallions which was cooked perfectly and served with a flavorful sauce. Overall the portuguese dishes were pretty good and very flavorful and you get a lot of food for the price. Only downside was waiting about 30 minutes for our food to be served, although it was probably due to the kitchen being backed up by catering orders for fourth of july weekend. Good local place for lunch or dinner if yoi have time to stop by.

1.5 stars This used to be my preferred Portuguese restaurant in Fall River; now, I doubt I will return unless it is on a slow mid-week day and only with a Groupon. Even then, I may just opt for other restaurants. Also, I hope my other reviews put into perspective that I am not a complainer. I’m typically quite forgiving, so this bad review is not given easily. My parents had a Groupon for four or more people, so I called on Friday to make a reservation for Sunday at one o’clock just in case it was busy. When we got there, we were not greeted and grabbed one of the last tables. None of the tables had a «reserved» sign and if we had gotten there 5 minutes later, there would not have been a table available. But okay, we were seated. Our waitress brought menus quickly and asked for our drink order(see more below on this). We noticed that meal prices have gone up considerably since the last time we dined here(within the last couple of months or so). Our waitress came by a little later, brought bread, and took our food order. Our food took a bit to arrive, but it was busy and a couple of us ordered specials, so we were not fazed. The food was delicious. Then… sigh. We sat there with near empty plates for, no exaggeration, 25 minutes before we were even acknowledged. The problem was obvious; there were only two waitresses for a full restaurant! I’m not faulting the waitresses; they were busting their butts, but it was a problem. Patrons at just about every table were looking around with the same expression on their faces as we must have had on ours. Finally, the busboy came by, asked if we needed boxes, and brought two. The waitress then noticed that he brought the boxes to us and informed him that they should box up leftovers in kitchen instead as to avoid a mess. Well, at least he did something! A little bit later, our waitress came by and asked if we wanted any coffee or dessert. That came out in a timely manner, but we had to ask our waitress three times for the check. Again, we noted a hike in prices, but we’re not the type of family that makes a stink. After all, if we wanted to eat on the cheap, we’d stay home. The next day, my mother asked me what I meant when I had asked for«tap water»(English is not my mother’s first language). Well, when I asked the waitress for water, she said, «okay, a bottle of water» and I said, «no, tap water is fine.» And that’s what I got, tap water. Quite frankly, I was trying to save my parents a couple of bucks and Fall River tap water tastes pretty good, so why not, right? Well, turns out, as my mother informed me, they charged us $ 1.25 for a glass of tap water! We can understand raised prices on food, but what the hell is up with charging us for tap water? Not cool, not cool. So, to summarize, food was great and service was fine, but no where to be found for most of our meal. Higher prices and the tap water charge will have me looking elsewhere for Portuguese cuisine. This is Fall River, so I have my choice of about 20 other restaurants, not to mention many, many more options in New Bedford and East Providence short car rides away.

We went to this place late on a Friday due to another customers recommendation. We called ahead to notify them there would be 16 of us and we showed up to a 16 place table set for us in a 20 minute notice. A bit impressive there. The dining area did have a nice feel to it but it is attached to a local bar in the same building that is behind a swinging door. The service was friendly and orders were taken relatively well. Here is where it gets tough. The meals took forever. They came out in odd intervals and far from all at once. And with no reason. Two of our party showed up half an hour after the rest ordered and they got their meals in the first 15 minutes of the food coming out. The rest of the delivery took about half an hour. The last item delivered was a standard Portuguese sandwich. Probably would take one minute to make in a commercial kitchen. My burger was undercooked and of very low quality. The french fries were rubbery. The steak and seafood among the group was considered excellent, while the chicken was overdone and any type of sauce mix was considered very salty. Overall a short dinner for a group of boaters took well over two hours. I would skip it if given the choice.

My family & I decided to give this place a go after seeing a groupon for it. It was incredibly easy to find & we got a spot at a meter out front. We found the dining room to be lovely, not to loud with a nice lunch time crowd. Our waitress was incredibly friendly. We got our drinks & bread right away. We ordered an app of the chicken wings. They came with banana peppers & olives. The wings were spicy and a bit to deep fried. For lunch we went with the surf & Turf, the steak in casserole & Portuguese fish & chips. We found both steaks to be bland & tough. You can tell they use cheaper cuts of beef. The shrimp were chewy and over cooked. The fish & chips were very tasty. Pluses– our waitress– outstanding! She even brought out some of the seafood stuffing for my husband to sample before he ordered. Very prompt service. Negatives– salty food, overly chewy/tough. We won’t be heading back here

Just left the Fall River Grille as single walk in around 6PM on a Sat night. Would not take me in main dining room so had to settle for dinner at the bar. Clientele did not lend to any ambiance: old guy with half of his finger up his nose. BTW, I’m in my 60’s so this isn’t an age complaint just what the rest of the patrons engendered. Took over 35 mins. to get a fried fisherman’s platter(which should the one of the quickest means to prepare). Meanwhile after Tanqueray gin I tried their espresso. Not bad until I saw the bartender make the next one. He had run out of steamed milk, mine was black, so he looked around to see if anyone was watching then grab a gallon of milk and added it for the next customer. Asked for a top shelf Manhattan and the bartender had to ask what was in it. Then he delivered something that looked like it had curdled milk in it. After rejecting it he asked another bartender. The best they could do was Southern Comfort and the bartender couldn’t find it. When I finally got the meal which included fried shrimp, clam strips, calamari and fish filet, the only thing not bone dry were the shrimp. Everything else tasted the same. the tartar sauce was VERY none descript and the slaw was poor. Prices were reasonable, drinks were small but inexpensive. I had been told this place had good food but if this is any indication, this meal certainly was not their best. Won’t likely try it again.

I discovered Fall River Grill through , we’ve been two or three times since. I have found the food to be consistently very good as is the service. The price is reasonable, the portions good and the restaurant always clean. The first time we went they had a meat loaf special that was excellent! Unfortunately for me, they haven’t had it since. The sirloin tips, however, are also excellent and cooked(medium rare) to perfection.

My fiancé family if from FR and love to visit the grill weekly. It is a small yet well decorated place. Very cut reminds me of a café in Italy. The staff makes everyone feel like they are family. Being introduced to Portuguese rolls was a delight! Goat cheeses was interesting… steak with the red pepper and egg was amazing! We will be back!

In the 15th century, Portugal and Spain led a brazen exploration of the African coast and beyond. Explorers were ordered to bring back any exotic fruits, nuts, and plants from new lands. As a result, the Age of Discovery dramatically affected cooking in Portugal and around the world. Portuguese cuisine is characterized by rich, filling and full-flavored dishes and is closely related to Mediterranean cuisine. Common ingredients include piri piri(small, fiery chili peppers), black pepper, olive oil, garlic and wine. And the bread, cannot forget the bread. It is an important part of the cuisine and is the only food that plays an integral part to every meal-breakfast lunch and dinner. Fall river, the state’s 10th most populous city also has nearly 50% of the US Portuguese population, easily the highest concentration. Fall River is proudly America’s «Little Portugal». It also happened to be my home for an important and wonderful 7 years of my life-i know it well. So, a Portuguese restaurant in Fall River opening is always notable and worthy of local gossip. The restaurant is on second street, home to the infamous Lizzy Borden if you wish to take a stroll. Walking in through the unassuming front you find yourself in a hallway leading to the bar. Its a typical male Portuguese bar, i walked in accidentally with my wife and everyone glared. At her for being at the bar and at me for me bringing her; very unladylike of course. My Portuguese wife from Fall River knew better against grabbing a drink before dinner so on to the main(and separate) dining room we went. Inside its nicely decorated enough. The peach colored walls are a bit much though and there is little character to the space as its a simple garage-like square. But my first impression walking in was not the décor but the smell… roasted garlic cooked in wine and other spices-its all about the food when you go to a Portuguese restaurant. Right away came the bread-but of course. It was softer than typical and it wasnt warm but Delicious nonetheless. Just like you can judge an Italian restaurant by its Chicken Pa rm and a Thai by its Pad Thai the Portuguese steak is the staple and naturally what i ordered for my first time. As the norm with this dish, it came with yellow rice, fries and topped with peppers, garlic and a fried egg. It was notably spicy adding to a bolder taste than customary. I ate about half and it was delicious. It is not as good however as the local legend Academica version and so my search happily continues. Fall River is certainly a wonderful Portuguese food haven, The Fall River Grill is a top 5 but there is certainly better places.

We went here last night with 10 of us. The place was completely dead! Maybe 5 people in the restaurant. It was around 8:45 P.M. The restaurant is a cute restaurant with adjacent bar in the bar with an outside patio, too. It has plenty of offstreet parking, too. We started with some drinks that included several beers, a few cocktails, sodas and waters. Only to find the water someone just drank was in a filthy glass and filth was floating in it. Not a good way to start. We ordered a food and waited a good half an hour for it to come out. NOONE was in there! We ordered salads, sandwiches and fried fish. Come on! How long does that take? Finally, our food comes out and the waitress pointed to one of friends as he sat there with no food: «What did you order?» Well, gee your the waitress. you’d think you’d know! He told her AGAIN. It took another half an hour to get his food!!! All of us were done with our food and our friend just sat there and waited and waited. It was just really bad. They never even gave him half off, nothing. That is bad! Also, my girlfriend had just a regular tossed salad and asked for the dressing on the side. They came out with a bottle of «KRAFT» dressing! We were on the floor. Ya think you could have at least put it in a bowl! Ahm, yeah. not thanks, I’ll pass on this place ever again.
