Blue Heron Farm B & B

My family of three including my 3 year old stayed in the Garden room for the 4^th. of July weekend. We weren’t really sure what to expect since we never stayed in a B&B before. But, we found the whole experience to be lovely. The views were beautiful and we enjoyed day-​tripping around Fallbrook and Oceanside. Our room was beautiful and spacious. I found Andrea to be quite warm and a gracious host. I would remind everyone that it is not the same as staying in a hotel, and being an organic farm is really also run with an organic mindset, which I found refreshing. The breakfast was really quite good, with tons of good things to eat and freshly made biscuits. Andrea did ask us what was a good time for us to have breakfast and made it a little later for us, which was appreciated. If a small adventure and get-​away is what your looking for, the Blue Heron will do the trick. We look forward to staying again.

Andrea, the innkeeper of this beautiful property, is delightfully friendly, accommodating, and hospitable. She asked in advance if there were any dietary restrictions and was able to accommodate all of them for breakfast. The popovers she made were amazing. We’d never had them before!
We stayed in the Peacock room, the largest of the three guest rooms available. It’s more like a suite and was quite spacious, almost like an entire house. Clean, and stocked with dishes, a coffee maker, bottled water, extra blankets, and robes. There is no stove, so don’t plan on cooking anything yourself. The refrigerator is small, and did not fit the modestly-​sized birthday cake I had brought with me. The bedroom itself, though spacious with great views, made me sneeze a lot. I was allergic to something in there and developed a wheeze during the night so I had to use my inhaler once. I’m guessing maybe dust? Not sure, so if you have mild allergies, be sure to bring your allergy meds with you. It was only that room. The rest of the suite was fine. Not sure about the other rooms, but this one had free wifi.
Sitting outside with the breeze blowing and the birds chirping… so relaxing and wonderful. They are pet friendly, so our little chiweenie enjoyed himself too, discovering all the unfamiliar sights and smells. The farm has 3 dogs (2 golden retrievers and a terrier mix) that wander the property freely. They are very friendly and have good manners towards other dogs. We were warned that there are poisonous snakes on the property, so never let your own dog wander too far out of your supervision. Andrea took us on a tour of the farm operations, and if you’re into gardening at all, you’ll find all the different things they grow fascinating.
The location is about 10 minutes from Oceanside and 15 minutes from downtown Fallbrook. Whoever said it was 15 minutes from Carlsbad might have had their cities mixed up. Be sure to google the drive time if you’re headed towards a reservation.
Despite the aforementioned drawbacks, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience and would do it again. It’s a working organic farm, and we felt good supporting this small family business.

A small NFP I work with purchased a 2-​day stay for our retiring Executive Director because he’s a birder. Andrea was great to work with on coordinating the purchase of a gift certificate.
The executive director said Andrea was wonder and so hospitable. She took them to neighboring lakes for more birding! When they made their reservation, Andrea asked if they had special dietary needs. They are vegetarian so it was nice to be asked ahead of time. They said Andrea made perfectly delightful vegetarian meals for them.
While I did not stay here myself, our executive director was tickled pink with his stay and said he would definitely stay again.

I sat on writing this review for about 5 days now… but I feel that my words need to be heard. Andrea (the owner) is the sweetest lady, and due to personal health issues she has been facing that she disclosed to us, I really wished that my experience here had been better. I really was rooting for this B&B to be outstanding!
This is NOT a 5 star B&B. It is 3 at most. The lands are pretty, views are good, but the upkeep of the property is not top quality. There were holes in the plaster of our room (Garden Room) and about 4 spiders scattered around the bathtub in their spider webs. The bed was very comfy and clean! Also, Andrea provided a space heater for us which was thoughtful since it was rainy and cold. The thing that REALLY disappointed me was the breakfast. Andrea let us know that another couple would be enjoying breakfast early and then asked us what time would be suitable for us. I explained that we would love to sleep in and anytime after 11:30−12 in the afternoon would be great. So then when we woke up and were ready for this 5-​star farm fresh breakfast, we were served the left overs that were prepared for the earlier guests. This means that an egg quiche, salad WITH THE DRESSING ON IT from 8am was sitting out and turned soggy but then was served to us.
I was looking forward to having a classy get away, and for $ 220 for ONE NIGHT you would think it would have been!!! Thinking of the whole experience now, I get a little sick to my stomach. I felt like I was staying at my grandmas house… but you know, the grandma who no one likes to go visit, ever.

No question Andy is a wonderful farmer and hostess! What a relaxing place to stay — on the side of the Sleeping Indian in Oceanside — beautiful farm country, comfortable weather, so peaceful. And unforgettable food — Andy’s cooking is so fabulous. We had a breakfast of freshly-​picked heirloom tomatoes and red onion on arugula with fresh mozzarella and her secret combination dressing (I’m pretty sure it involves rice vinegar among other things).
If you need a get-​away, this is the place to escape to!

Seriously, the most charming farm house B&B in Southern California! We live in LA and wanted a quick getaway from the city. Had no idea that we could find a place so beautiful, quiet, relaxing, and in the country and only drive less than 2 hours away from home!
Blue Haron B&B is set on a real live working farm with wild bird sanctuary outside the dinning room window and fields of strawberries, sweet green beans and lettuce right in the «backyard!».
The room was comfy, clean, romantic, cozy, private, just perfect! The house only has 3 rooms for «rent» so you really do feel like you are in your very own secluded cabin; D
You are only about 15 minute drive into the closest town, carlsbad, where you can go for unique fine cuisine dinners or hamburgers and beer. We took a quick day trip to Mission San Luis Rey too!
We will definitely go back to visit. I feel refreshed and like we could have stayed there much longer.

My family stayed here for the July 4 weekend and we had an unforgettable experience.
The Blue Heron Farm B & B is off the beaten path. Once you get there, you don’t want to leave. Andrea, hostess and owner of the farm, was friendly and very accomodating. My one year old son needed milk so she went to the store at night and picked some up for him.
We stayed at the Peacock suite, which had a kitchenette, 2 balconies, a walk-​in closet, its own full bath, and a living room with a pull-​out couch.
Breakfast was fit for a king! Quiche with organic squash and onions, buttermilk biscuits with cream and strawberry, cocktail orange (cross between a grapefruit and a tangerine), tomato salad. The squash, heirloom tomatoes, greens, and strawberries were all freshly picked the same day. Honey, apricot jam, and raspberry jam all came from the farm.
We enjoyed the birds, flowers, and plants/​trees. The air was freshly fragrant and we bought some fresh organic fruits and vegetables to take with us to LA.
We look forward to booking our next trip back to Blue Heron Farm!
