Everytime I’m in fallbrook I always make it a point to hit every single thrift store in the area. For some reason all the best items and deals come out of fallbrook. I thought I knew all the places, but today I was on my way between St. vincent’s and Angel Thrift and saw a sign out of the corner of my eye advertising 2nd hand furniture. Not one to pass up resale, I turned in. Walking through this place made me feel like an idiot. For starters, our entire house is furnished in about $ 1,000 worth of IKEA and looking at all the cool dressers, bed frames, and sofa sets made me feel jealous of whatever lucky people end up with them. I tried my hardest to ignore the sinking«you-paid-too-much-for-your-boring-crap» feeling that I had in the pit of my stomach and focus on the goal: nursery furniture. If there’s one thing I know, it’s that I’m not going to be settling for IKEA this time around. I browsed through the hodge podge of cool things. 50’s style barstools, wood carved coffee tables, knick knacks, fabrics, bed frames, patio sets. There was a lot of stuff that caught my eye, but nothing that felt like the right match, nursery wise. As I was about to leave I stumbled into this weird little alcove of mirrors. I LOOOOVE mirrors! I was piling mirrors on top of each other, getting ready to check out with my stash when I saw it: THE chair. It was a standard french provincial-style ivory dining chair. I probably would have walked past it EXCEPT I happen to already own an identical writing desk($ 25 from St. vincent’s a while ago, converted into a changing table). I stared at the chair for a minute, wondering how it was that 2 different stores came to possess 1 half of a nearly identical set. I pulled the chair out of the alcove and looked at it. And looked at it again. The seat cushion was upholstered in a light pink and ivory striped fabric, the build was sturdy and the price tag was…$ 40. SOLD! I took the chair home and the second I carried it into the house my husband said«hey, that chair matches that one table you found!» Yes, yes it does. I’m not sure what the chances are of stumbling upon 2 different, unrelated furniture pieces at 2 different thrift stores with almost the exact finish, but I will for sure be back to fallbrook trading company. If I ever get the budget to refurnish the rest of our house, that’s where I’m going to start.
