The West Virginia Welcome Center — Southbound — is a welcome respite for the traveler. Restrooms for bio breaks, a place to get out, stretch, and walk around. There is also an Information Center with a ton of informational brochures about area attractions. There are a number of picnic tables — so one can break out the vittles and have a meal while on the road. And there are vending machines. There is also quite a bit of educational exhibit information, so take the time to read some of the interpretive signage. Good place for a rest stop!

This is the West Virginia Welcome Center on Southbound I-81. It often gets busy here and on busy travel days it may be difficult to find a parking space. The same is true for the truck area but on my last visit, it looks like they are expanding the truck parking area. There’s a buidling for tourist information and one for restrooms. Be careful in the restrooms as the floor can be a little slippery if they were just cleaning. Sometimes there is a local charity giving away hotdogs and such(for a donation) at this rest stop which I think is a great idea. Also watch yourself when exiting this rest area, Truckers have the right of way and the people out on the road are not always considerate.
