Came here on a whim and walked in on a chocolate and wine tasting. We were impressed by the quality of both. They happened to have a good selection of our favorites breweries. Wonderful staff and pleasant experience.

Small selection of beer, but the options are well curated, leaning toward hop forward brews. Mostly popular craft breweries, but a small portion of ones I am not familiar with. Prices are a little steep though, easily 2 or 3 dollars higher for commonly available brands like Sierra Nevada. I wonder if the store is merely a storage area for the adjacent restaurants. Lost Dog, just around the corner near the metro has a larger selection of beer, though I don’t recall the prices. Mom’s in Mosaic is another option though slightly smaller selection. As I don’t buy much wine, I can’t speak to the selection or prices.

I liked the small but decent selection at Merrifield wine and beer. We stopped in to grab a bottle while we were waiting on a table next door and the sales person was extremely helpful. I had selected a Côtes du Rhôné and he actually steered me towards another bottle after asking me a few questions. He wasn’t pushy at all, just helpful and passionate about wine. I can’t say MW&B will be my go to, but it’s a nice little store and if I am in the area I won’t hesitate to pop in for something.

I was really disappointed with Merrifield Wine and Beer, mostly due to the extremely limited selection, but also the price. I drink a lot of wine and a lot of beer and I know how much some of the more popular bottles/brews cost, and Merrifield Wine and Beer is overpriced on every product I saw. There was one guy working who was friendly enough, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that I can’t find what I want at this shop. They also don’t do make your own six packs here. I like to support local business when I can, but to be quite frank, you’re better off going to the grocery store than this shop to find a good bottle of wine or six pack of craft beer.

This place consistently has DCBRAU. And the staff are good people. There is a lot of different beers — of all types — and wines. Don’t listen to the haters. This is the best beer store in town!

Stopped in looking for an interesting microbrew. Had a pretty standard lineup of standard ales and IPAs, but no stouts/porters, and what I would consider a poor showing of Belgians. For instance, there were no Three Philosophers in the Ommegang section, something that is mainstream enough that I can get it in Safeway. I was informed that they were trying to move out their summer stock(though nothing in the fridge was on sale, so they were not trying too hard). Not sure how long they can stay in business when they wait until after Octoberfest to bring in their Fall lineup. I will stop in again as the man working there was very nice and not the least bit pushy. He was very knowledgable when I finally found something malty that I had not tried(still an Ale though). I very much wanted to give this place five stars, but their selection was terrible. They have plenty of space, and a great location along with good staff. I just think that someone played it too safe with the selection and apparently ordered too much summer beer but has not had the good sense to admit it by October. I hope to amend this after my next visit.

Don’t waste your time with this place. Selection of beer if limited and unoriginal, prices are on the high end. Norm’s in Vienna remains the value leader and the service there is great, as opposed to this place.

The highlight of this place is definitely the service. I’ve been twice and both times there were no other customers in there, but the service wasn’t awkward or pushy like you might expect. The same guy was working both times and he was super friendly and candid about his beer recommendations. And we’ve liked both the beers he recommended. They also have a request form so if you’re looking for something in particular you can let them know and they’ll try to get it into the store. They have a sign up saying tastings every day at 5pm and they do tastings of wine or beer almost every day, but when business is really slow on days like Sunday they might not put anything out. My guess, though, is that if you asked about it they would bring something out for you. We live in the Mosaic District and could easily walk to other stores with similar selections and prices, but we’ll keep coming back here because the service is better than we’ve gotten anywhere else.

Nice selection of wines and beers, both cold and room temperature. I like reading the descriptions of wines they have for some bottles. I wish they posted those for every wine. It’s very helpful when you want to try something new. Helpful and pleasant staff. Discounts when buying in bulk. And free tastings. I hope the store is here to stay!

Around Gallows and Rt. 29 there really aren’t a lot of options to pick up good beer besides these smaller boutique like places. Merrifield Wine Beer has a limited selection of some really good beers at decent prices. They of course also have a wine selection and small array of cheeses, crackers, etc. With Red, White and Bleu down Rt. 29 just a bit — their selection for the square footage kind of blows Merrifield Wine and Beer out of the water, but the prices are higher and very little is offered already cold(at Red White and Bleu). I think Merrifield has the space and the coolers to really compete in the area but they would need to up the selection a bit. Still, worth stopping in if you need some good quality craft beer. I’ve stopped in several times and would definitely go back.

I wasn’t impressed with the selection and when I went in it was dead. There were two sales people but the one was pushy. Also, there were supposed to be free daily testing but there were no samples out. I won’t go back. The local grocery store has a better selection.
