I always feel like I’m back in El Paso when I come here, which is just what I needed today. The amazing corn tortillas are made in house. My favorite dishes are the bean burrito platter and the machacado. Their rice is always the best texture! I love that this place is not Tex-Mex like so many other restaurants are in DFW. You can take your time eating, too! ¡Gracias, Cuquitas! –Oh, and they serve you not only a generous helping of salsa but a fresh, hot corn tortilla with butter before your meal. Aaahhhh.

Very dissatisfied with the service and the food. The chips and salsa are merely ok. The tacos al carbon were tough and stringy. The chile relleno came with no sauce and when I asked about it the waitress said fifty cents. I thought this funny considering they charge $ 10 whether you get beef, chicken, or cheese and I chose cheese. You would think they could give the sauce for free. And it definitely needed it. It tasted like hard fried scrambled eggs. The only good items were the corn tortillas which were soft and fluffy and the horchata. I also ordered ice tea but never received a refill as our waitress disappeared for pretty much the whole meal. We actually had to ask another waitress to find her for us. And there were only a few tables occupied. All in all I won’t be going back.

This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant and it’s just down the street from me so it’s really close. That being said, you have a 50 – 50 chance of service. If you get any other waitress other than the elderly lady you’re solid. If you get the elderly lady– good luck… if she went any faster she would stop. But i still tip generously, leading to a false sense of competency.. my bad…

I have never been to Mexico, but I would guess this food hits that authentic sweet spot for some. It wasn’t spicy and seemed thick and filling. They are generous with the meat and do well to bring melted butter with the tortillas. But I love the complexity of Tex-Mex. So, I probably wouldn’t rush back craving this place. We ordered: Queso flambado(?) — ******This is not dipping cheese**** biggest shock was that it is simply a bowl of warmed Monterey Jack. We used a knife to eat it with everything else. Margaritas– it’s a mix. Kinda tart. Nothing I would recommend, but I guess the alcohol isn’t their speciality. Corn tortillas — soft and good flavor. Hands down, good. Flour tortillas– Don’t bother. Not enough sauce for that. Gordita nopalito — good! Yes! The beans and rice were good too. Green sauce on the enchiladas is spicier(better) — seemed less dry than the red. Chile relleno was fulllll of chicken. But nothing else really :) Not bad, just not my thing. Service was average unless you speak Spanish. I thought the waitress was a bit more helpful when she spoke en espanol. Try it for yourself!

This is a Texas Monthly Top Rated Mexican Food restaurant in Texas. Food was great, they give free homemade tortillas and salsa was excellent. Atmosphere was great and service was awesome. I’ll definitely be back.

I started going to this place for lunch when i was attending Brookhaven college. It remainds me like my grandmas cooking style back in Mexico. Guys this is what we call in Mexico«comida corrida“so if you are used to your basic taco bell or taco bueno you dont know what mexican food is. Customer service was slow and thats the reason why im giving 3 stars. Overall food is good here.

I will probably never come back to this place again. They have replaced their fountain drinks with regular canned Sodas for the same price($ 2.00) which is crazy overpriced. Food is okay, food variety I’ll give that a 7⁄10. I had the«3 chicken enchiladas with salsa verde» which looked very neat when I first received them, after a while the tortilla starts to disintegrate and this so called enchiladas turned into some kind of green salsa chicken soup.(Approximately 3 bites into the first enchilada) Overall very pricey for the quality of the food. Drinks are overpriced and they don’t even serve horchata(which for some reason is still in the Menu) save your money and go to the Subway across the street.

Horrible food! I went in at 12pm for some soups(caldo de res and pozole) and they were nasty. The beef soup meat tasted old and the stew was salty. The rice with that soup was stale. The pozole was too thick and the pork meat in it tasted old. The handmade tortillas were great though. The service was ok. The soups were 8 dollars each… I know of plenty other places that serve better tasting food for less. Mg mistake coming here. Lesson learned…

Not sure what has happen to this place it use to be so good food and all. I ate here on Saturday it was quiet, slow not a lot of people so I was confused why we had bad service and bad food. Waitress attended our table one time the entire time we were there. We were never offered napkins, more chips nothing. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with red sauce after a few bites I realized they were all cheese. Not sure if kitchen got it wrong or waitress did because she did repeat everything back wrong didn’t write anything down. She put in another order for chicken enchiladas and they were out in no time to my surprise. Enchiladas seemed microwaved. Chicken was dry and enchiladas were drowned in cheese and sauce. Nachos were soggy also seemed microwaved. Chips look like broken chips with no taste. I was very disappointed how much this place has changed. Wait staff seemed unhappy and were very busy arguing amongst each other in front of customers very bad for business. When I asked to speak to a manager the young man stated he didn’t know who the manager was. So I asked to speak to another gentleman that’s been with the restaurant for awhile. I did express my disappointment, he apologized and removed my plate from ticket. Appreciate it but I’ll never be back.

This place is the real deal. The salsa tastes fresh, the tortillas are so soft, and the ambience puts you exactly in the mood for Mexican food. And the staff is soooo sweet. Basically, I love this place.

I sat at the bar for a topshelf margarita. I was told $ 8, then charged $ 14, I’ll never come here again. They couldn’t even explain why it was $ 14, just said because of the owner. As an ex bartender I was insulted !!!

The refried beans are killer!(My friend told me they are fried in lard to get such a delicious flavor) but never the less, they were some of the best refried beans i’ve ever had. The rice was delicious as well and had a good flavor that was subtle as well. The tacos were a little dry to me i had beef and chicken. All in all a very decent place to have a nice tex-mex meal. Ate here for lunch with 4 people and the total was $ 31 a great deal.

I love this place, it has the greatest chile reyeno! I also like their tacos al carbon. We love coming here, because it’s a family friendly restaurant. The atmosphere is great, and the service is also superb. We see the owner from time to time, and she’s always wiling to stop by our table to say hello. If you’re ever in the Branch, this is the place to take in some really authentic Mex-Mex.

I’ve driven by this restaurant many times over the years and I never stopped in because usually I didn’t have time. Cuquita’s is a family restaurant where you have to sit down and take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and company you are with. They bring you chips and salsa but they also bring you a light tortilla with butter. YUM! The only beverage to have is the Horchata. You mean you have never has homemade Horchata? Tsk, tsk! Cuquita’s Horchata is tasty and the right balance of flavors. I’ve had some that is way too thick or too much cinnamon. There were a lot more items to choose from on the menu but for me, enchiladas are the indicator of how the rest of the menu will taste. You would be mistaken if you think all enchiladas are created equally. I did 2 beef and 1 cheese. These enchiladas were light and tasty and loaded with lots of cheese! They were topped with red and the green sauce and I still can’t decide which I liked best. So I will probably get both from now on. Another indicator that everything would be good was the other patrons. I learned a long time ago if the natives are eating there, then it’s good! And that goes for every type of food. Everything was fresh and authentic and a treat indeed. I will be going back when I get a chance.

This place is pretty good standard mexican food! The chips and salsa were alright but the fresh, fluffy corn tortillas were especially good! My husband had the barbacoa plate which was just a delicious heap of meat, he was in heaven. I had the chili relleno with chicken which was good, I really liked the batter. We had frozen margaritas and still got out of there for under $ 30, I am all for an affordable satisfying meal like that!

Had lunch at Cuquita’s recently and walked away reasonably unimpressed. The price for the meal, however, is appropriate. Ate the lunch special, guiso de puerco and although the meat was tender, the sauce that it was cooked in lacked flavor. The tortillas were clearly homemade and quite good, but unfortunately that didn’t make up for the rest. Noticed also that the chips were of the bagged variety versus made in house.

Cuquita’s could be a hit or miss. Convinced myself that I wasn’t too crazy about this place, I decided to give it another chance. We got seated to a big table in front of the televison showing spanish language sports news and talk. Even though I know that Mexico won over New Zealand, and they’re still talking about it… who cares??? I’ve got Baylor & Texas Tech game, along with the Mavs game to watch via my cell phone. :D This brings up to my concern when the waitress brings up the complimentary chips, salsa, tortillas, and butter. The tortillas are homemade, and they’re all corn. Shouldn’t they be making chips out of that, instead of giving out«ready-to-eat» chips? It doesn’t make any sense. The tortillas are so good, I wonder what it taste like if they could cut it into wedges and fry ‘em out instead of just cutting corners. But whatever. I digress. The green salsa is pretty good, spicy though; I like that better than the red salsa, which it’s nothing but a spicy tomato water flavored with a piece of onion. Meh! When it comes to eating out at mexican restaurants, I usually start out with guacamole as an appetizer as I love avocados, which seemed pretty skimpy on the avocados here. I was hungry. Despite that I’ve eaten here before, the food is like I said, could be a hit or miss. The tampiquena steak is not what I had in mind. It was more of a beef jerky. And the cheese enchilada I got is cold enough not to let the cheese melt. The gorditas is one of the better dish. I recommend getting that. Now, in my recent visit, I had the short ribs in salsa verde, a real good comfort food. These tender rib tips drenched in a flavorful green sauce and one big piece of boiled potato reminds me of how my mom makes«Picadillo con papas»(ground beef and potatoes), though I wish for a little more meat. Oh well. Like Blue Goose Cantina, the rice and beans are canned here too. The waitress we got in our table is very friendly, helpful, and bilingual enough to understand us. The staff here put out some great reputation in running this restaurant. Impressive. I guess I wouldn’t mind continuing on visiting Cuquita’s as the chile relleno and barbacoa sounds pretty tempting. If you want some authentic mexican food rather than some tex-mex or chain brands, you should try this place. There’s another Cuquita’s in Richardson, and in Garland too if you’re around that area. ;)

Cuquita’s is awesome. Had many a lunch time special. Usually get either the enchilada plate with one chicken and one cheese or guiso de res. Guacamole is great, home made tortillas are great. Place is always clean and staff is always friendly. Cuquitas is also more Mex-Mex than Tex Mex. No yellow cheese, but no problem. Never had a bad thing there!
