BLT is the best ever, along with a London Fog. Employees are friendly and very efficient. Beautiful grounds and so very relaxing.

You must stop here when visiting the Laurel Highlands Mountains. First of all, the atmosphere alone is so relaxing, you can sit on the porch or on the patio sipping your coffee and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Incredibly landscaped, and decorated in rustic décor, but wait you can browse the antique shop while your waiting for your lunch. The coffee is delicious and you must try the pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich. A wonderful gem off the beaten path…

The breakfast sandwich on a homemade English muffin with side of pepper jelly was fantastic. However, it was the ONLY breakfast item on the menu. No muffins. No scones. No hash browns. The cups of fruit they had for sale were riddled with brown spots. If you’re not in a rush, the speed of service will be fine. The outdoor seating area was heaven on a sunny morning. I would not consider this a «breakfast» place by any criteria. That said, the one thing they served tasted delicious.

What a lovely surprise!!! We went there TWICE during our visit to Nemacolin. It is family-owned and everything is made fresh. As much as possible is made in-house, including their breads and the syrups in their coffees. The chix salad and burgers were delicious, as were the fresh squeezed lemonade, the frozen drinks, and cookies(try the orange cookie)!!! It is very casual. Highly recommend eating outside(you can even bring your dog). The café part of the house is so cute! It is a unique mix of quaint and trendy! (Be sure to say hello to the nice lady and her cat in the adjacent antique shop!!)

Made our return visit today since last year. Food quality and taste outstanding as our first visit. Service was our issue today. Cashier had to ask someone else the answer to every one of our questions. We sat outside waiting for 45 minutes before food showed up. No drinks yet either. Why can’t they serve you drinks while you wait??? Had to ask for drinks, and then straws multiple times after food was brought to table. Servers appear not to be in a hurry or work efficiently. After food delivered to tables, they do not clear or wipe adjacent tables, making empty trips back. I have no problem with the kitchen, just everything in front of it. We will be back. Please improve.

My wife and I stopped in after we had gone and toured Kentuck Knob house, checked out cucumber falls, and hiked a bit. We immediately loved the atmosphere and the down home greetings we got when we walked in. They have basic snacks, sandwiches, coffees, hot chocolate, teas, etc. I got the London Fog Steamer and loved it, the wife got a good old fashioned Hot Chocolate. All in all, I’ll be back anytime I’m in the area, and well worth the small drive down from Ohiopyle!

Awesome gem ready for a big reveal, or maybe not. Its these kind of places which makes one go off the road or the beaten track to not just have a cup or coffee or a sandwich but to find stories and have a good time. More than 2 decades old antique shop expanded into a rustic, cozy coffee shop(well its actually more than that). Snowfall on the first day of spring did make the visit even more special however it would be nice any time of the year as the patio/back garden also seemed very very inviting. Definitely try their Coffee infused crème brûlée. Its homey and rustic and definitely makes one feel happy. Not always one wants the Alton Brown or those vouched by food network people in general. Seemed like a great place to host any celebrations having 40 – 50 people as well. Cant wait to go back even when its a 3 hours drive. Go and make memories.

This place had my attention on the way to Ohio Pyle State Park. I was excited on the way back when my fiancé said we were going to stop at this little Gym. We walked in and immediately noticed the quaint feel of the bakery/restaurant the menu was small but it had a lot of good things on it. And immediately the chicken salad caught my eye! Chicken salad is literally one of my favorites! I am prone to eating that right up!!! The chicken salad was really good! On the soft white Italian bread it was definitely carbapalooza! The nice thing was we sat at the wrap around porch on the pic NIC table and enjoyed the meal. Our daughter sat in the couch swing and ate her chocolate chip cookies! Sunday was 66and sunny so we were able to Take in the beautiful property and its entirety I think the next time we stop at ohipyle state park this will be our snack spot!

I am in love, simple as that. I am so thankful for Unilocal as we left Ohiopyle we were looking for a place to grab a quick bite to eat and well it found Bittersweet Café so we plotted it into the GPS and away we went. It recently opened in 2015 and has been on a roll since then. I had«the bird» daily special sandwich which was fantastic, my wife had the chicken salad sandwich which was another hit and our daughter well she just wanted some cookies. :) We took a seat out on the deck and it was perfect, the weather, trees, swinging porch seat that our daughter laid on as she ate her cookies and just looked out at the trees. Oh and the mint tea was refreshing! There is also a gift shop inside. Anytime we head to Ohiopyle we will for sure make a stop!

This is one of my all time favorite places! Very friendly and welcoming employees who seem to actually enjoy what they do. Not to mention it is a family owned establishment which Makes it that much better! The food is the best around and I come especially for the pulled pork grilled cheese! It literally is the best thing that I have ever tasted! I was never a pulled pork fan and was hesitant to try it but I am so glad that I did. I also always get the sweet lemon mint tea. If you are an ice tea drinker you will have to try it! I highly recommend this café to anyone and everyone!

Wonderful small town café with an assortment of drinks, desserts and fresh salads/sandwiches! I really enjoyed the Raspberry cream smoothie and the dessert of the day, a frozen coffee granita. The owner and staff are very welcoming and if you’re visiting, be sure to leave your mark with a pushpin on the visitors board near the restroom!

5 Stars is not über common and sometimes a place might receive a Fiver because it is a really good«for the area» type of thing. I can assure you that this place is batting a Thousand because it deserves it! From the homey décor, to the«Everything made In-House» this place scores on all levels. The family has thrown all their weight, wits, and life experiences together to make this place happen. From the construction to the culinary, Bittersweet is all Sweet and the only Bitter notion is that you do have to go back home at some point. I love what they are doing with the quality side of things in regards to their food. The owners are the type that take nothing for granted and it shows in their plates. Pay attention to the small things and you will then realize why it is that you like this place so much. When you begin to add up all the little sincere notions at «how to do a business», you begin to understand what it truly means to be AUTHENTIC! I could lecture in detail to the specifics of the cuisine, but let us save time; Just GO and experience it yourself. ps-prepare to be bringing cookies home for dessert :)

Such a perfect little place to have lunch after falling water. The staff was extremely nice, the décor was so cute! I went with my boss/friend after falling water around 1:30p in November, and had a delicious(and VERY filling) pulled pork grilled cheese sand with homemade BBQ sauce, a hot apple cider, green mint ice tea and pecan pie. We are from Florida and we are so glad that we choose this place over others on Unilocal,it was a cozy, café style atmosphere with delicious home made choices of food. Must see! I will be recommending and be coming back!

The food was stinking awesome. So delicious. We are definitely glad we backtracked out of Ohiopyle just to eat here. We ordered a bittersweet burger(burger, cheese, egg, homemade jam) and a pulled pork grilled cheese. Yum. The food was just the right amount, which is great as we’re about to head on a bike ride. The atmosphere in this family run establishment was really well thought out. Fun, festive decorations. The staff was also really friendly and you can tell they really enjoy what they are doing. Highly recommend eating at this family owned café. They only opened in 2015, so obviously the food speaks for itself.

After more than three hours in the car on the way to Fallingwater, we were itching for a chance to get out and enjoy the beautiful autumn weather — warm and sunny but with a lovely cool breeze. As we passed Bittersweet I read the chalkboard out front, took in the picturesque outdoor scenery and promptly made a U-turn back to the café. It was even more charming inside, with a rustic feel reminiscent of Woodberry Kitchen but prices much more in keeping with a quick takeout lunch. The food was excellent: my enormous burger came with bubbly cheese, a fried egg, crispy bacon and a knockout spicy-sweet homemade red pepper jelly. The bun was too soggy to eat with all those toppings, but I honestly didn’t mind digging in with a fork. It was a great flavor combination, though I wished it had come with something more than just a pickle. My friend’s pork barbeque sandwich was a little smaller, but the«side salad» she ordered made me green with envy(sorry, couldn’t help it.) Fresh, crispy lettuce, tomatoes, hard-cooked egg and cucumbers were artfully arranged inside a cardboard takeout box with a paper liner — a cute and practical way to serve a salad, but one I had never seen before. Every one of the staff members we encountered was incredibly genuine, kind and helpful, from the person who took the time to explain the menu to the one who brought our food to the table. As we were leaving I asked for lids for our water cups, and he explained that the size we had didn’t come with lids, but he insisted on taking our cups, pouring them into bigger cups, filling those cups and then giving us lids and straws — and didn’t charge us a penny for any of it. It would be worth it to return just for the pleasure of interacting with such courteous staff. The only wrinkle in our experience, and the reason I can’t give five stars, was that there was a bit of a bee problem the day we were there. We had chosen a table in the sunshine while we waited for our food, and a couple of bees appeared interested, but we waved them away. Then our food arrived, along with bee reinforcements who were fairly aggressive(we didn’t get stung, but had a couple of close calls.) We moved to the shade. They moved with us. We went inside; a few still followed us in, but we ate our food in a hurry and took off. All around us, people were getting their food to go, which was a shame because it was such a nice day and their outdoor patio is absolutely gorgeous. I’m guessing there was a nest in the area, which is certainly not the fault of the owners, but I can’t totally ignore that part of the experience! Hopefully the unwelcome visitors are already a thing of the past, because we can’t wait to return.

After our tour of Fallingwater, we drove 15 minutes to come to Bittersweet Café, and definitely was a highlight meal of my day. Yes, the food selection is limited in the area unless you are dining fancy at Lautrec at Nemacolin Resort or grabbing a quick bite at the Fallingwater café. However, Bittersweet Café brings the charm that neither of those places have. Upon pulling into the parking lot, we walked into the side door into the antique shop. Not much there, but the café is attached.(Note: There is also another door that goes directly to the café on the right next to the garden.) It was a charming wooden theme with a very long wooden communal table with a huge bowl of fruit as decoration(or you can buy an apple for $ 1). Anyways, we shared the Reuben for $ 9, but I noticed you can also just get a «box» for $ 11 that comes with a drink and cookie. The Reuben was soooo good! It was a huge slice of bread and generous filling! Easily feeds two people! Not only that I was really impressed with their coffee; we ordered a cappuccino European style(without sugar). It came in a paper cup. The place felt super homey, warm vibe, and the cashier was very nice. The food didn’t come out super quick considering we were the only ones in the café, but we didn’t mind. :) I was also tempted to try the variety of sweets because they looked delicious.

Great little place! Stopped on the way home from falling water. My wife and I both got the pulled pork BBQ grilled cheese which was great. Atmosphere was homey, it was a nice place to eat outside. Well landscaped. The staff was friendly and attentive. The menu isn’t large, but it doesn’t need to be for what it is. The coffee portion of the menu has more options than the food… Which provided fuel for the drive back to MD. It’s only ¼ mile off of route 40, so it’s a worthwhile detour!

So first off, I love the mom and pop shops. This is nicely located about ½ a mile off the main road. It gets a lot of traffic. So we showed up. There were two groups of 4 out side. One group was eating, the other had just sat down. You need to go inside to order, so we did. There were a couple folks at the counter ordering pastries and coffee. Nothing more. The group that was in front of us ordered food. Then we ordered. We all go outside and sit and wait. As we are there more folks start coming in and getting seats. The folks before us get their food. Then the folks after us start getting their food. We are thinking it is because it was a party of two. Them more folks start getting their food. So this is the 45 minute point. I go in and let them know we want our money so we can be on down the road. While I am waiting to do this, I realize the inside is now full and they are all eating. Yes, I know, had anyone come outside to check on us this would not be an issue. Anyway, I finally get to tell them we want the money. At this point there is a mad scramble in the kitchen. Poof, there is our ticket. They let me know it was next in line. All thought it clearly was not. We let them know we just want to be on our way. Then I get the whole this is a small shop in the middle of nowhere. All though the 30 people outside seemed to know where it was. Then they tell me they cant anticipate the crowds. The thing is, these are sandwiches. Not really a need to anticipate. They just need to mange the order in which they make the food and not give out others food to the solo traveler. Just bad management or coordination. I will also say, the portion sizes I did see, I would have been mad given the prices. But maybe they are just crazy good. However, a Rubin is not worth that kind of wait.

Stopped at Bittersweet Café on the way home from Ohiopyle. Was really impressed with this little café. Wasn’t sure what to expect being out here kinda in the middle of nowhere. I live in Pittsburgh so you can find cafes like this all around the city and I would say Bittersweet Café would fit right in with the other cafes in Pittsburgh. Tried a mint ice tea, raspberry smoothie, peanut butter brownie and hot pepper jelly to take home. Everything was absolutely delicious. No complaints about the food at all. Loved everything! My only complaint is it was pretty pricey. Just the 4 things I ordered cost $ 23. That’s a lot for the couple things I ordered. I’ll definitely stop at Bittersweet Café again next time I’m in the area but couldn’t afford to eat there frequently.
