I grew up in Farrell, so going here was because it was close. The staff was the biggest turn off for me. The cashiers are just for the lack of a better word, rude.

Local grocery stores are some of my favorite things ever. I can remember shopping at the Farrell Golden Dawn with my dad when I was really little. It has the perfect mom’n’pop charm that too many establishments lack these days!

Conceptually, I love shopping local. It supports the community over a large, faceless corporation. After my most recent trip to the Farrell Golden Dawn, I think I’ll be sticking to Giant Eagle and Wal Mart. Ethics be damned. When you pull into the lot, there will be ample parking, a good sign for a local grocery store, as parking at the local Giant Eagle is atrocious. If you can actually make it inside the store without contracting lung cancer from the many employees outside smoking, you’ll usually find it crawling with people 30 – 40 years your senior(regardless of your age). Good luck navigating past grandma and grandpa, as they check the price of everything, often taking up the entire aisle. The one positive is that it’s never very hard to find what you’re looking for… mostly because nearly all choices are limited to one name brand, and a generic brand. When it comes time to check out, the real adventure begins. I often gripe about how Wal Mart only has 10 of it’s 40 lanes open. Golden Dawn has the same percentage of lanes open, unfortunately, that usually means one or two, which always have long lines of seniors, with Trapper Keepers full of coupons, who just HAVE to pay with a check. The cashiers, usually high school kids(even at noon on a weekday) or seniors, are slow, apathetic, and often times mean. The floors are dirty, the drop ceiling tiles show significant water damage, and the place has a certain odor about it. I’ll only shop here when I’m in a ridiculous hurry… I suggest you do the same.
